Happy New Year has dropped by around 10 – 20% at centres that we tracked today. Rajasthan circuit collected Rs 79 lakhs on Monday, which has gone down to Rs 64 lakhs on Tuesday.
A few centres have remained steady with 10% drops, but others have witnessed bigger falls. East Punjab is down, Gujarat is helping Mumbai circuit remain steady, in the Mysore circuit cracks began to appear as early as Sunday, business in West Bengal circuit is steady but on the lower side.
Overall, the film should collect around 13 crore on Tuesday as per early estimates. All India total of Rs 137 crore in 5 days is excellent, but the trend hasn’t been good.
Second weekend could well decide if the film will eventually cross the 200 crore at the box office. There are no releases in the next couple of weeks – Rekha’s Super Nani releases this weekend, but that film won’t impact Happy New Year.
The SRK starrer will collect around 160 crore in its first week, out of which the contribution from the Hindi version will be around 154 crore.

Take the collections aside. Dhoom3 and Kick aren’t even close to HNY in terms of entertainment.

DHOOM-3 had “franchise” factor working for it. Even if it collects more than “original” HNY means nothing.
Just like Hrithik benefitted in DHOOM-2, Aamir benefitted from DHOOM-3 & SRK will also benefit if plays a villian in DHOOM-4.
Sallu & Ajay & Akshay also benefits from TELUGU and TAMIL remakes of their films. those originals are already regional BB. A bigger budget and sleaker SFX easily makes them 100+crores.
Whenever Aamir, Sallu, Akshay & Ajay went for “ORIGINAL” movies, they all struggled to cross 100 crores barring Dabanng & 3-IDIOTs.
Talaash, Taare Zameen Par etc struggled to get pass 100+ crores.
Tons of Akshay, Ajay “original” also failed cross 100+ crores.
SRK is the only true SUPERSTAR whose risky “originals” crossed 100+ crores in risky genre such as RA.ONE, JTHJ, DON-2 (don 2006 was not a BB unlike Dhoom & Dabanng), CHENNAI EXPRESS (too much Tamil)
HNY despite being badly made is an ORIGINAL not benefiting from franchise tag. If it crosses 200 crores, its because of SRK star power.

TBH, a film like HNY should not be more than 120 mins long. HNY’s biggest problem is its length.
As bad as it is, if HNY lenght was 120=130 mins with garbage scenes cut out, It would cross 250 crores easily if its edited excellently. Its already entertaining enough.
1 hrs for character introductions & 1 hr for Heist would’ve been perfect.
Its the 3rd hour that killed its chances of collecting 250 crores! as simple as that. Less shows.

So the %difference between trade and producers=75%.. Too much fun.. Lallu knew that kick cant cross 227 crs of ce without manipulation.. So they manipulated it to cross 227 crs.. How can a 75% difference possible in just 1000 screens in 3rd week?..
