Happy New Year Trailer breaks all records, creates history: Exclusive stats

Red Chillies Entertainment’s new strategy of releasing the Happy New Year trailer exclusively on Facebook and Whatsapp has worked big time. The trailer of the film has reached more than 70 million across the world, less than a week after it was released on almost every popular platform on the planet.

Here are some exclusive stats that we have compiled for you:

  • 380,000 plus likes (261,000 plus on official page) (all time record for a Hindi trailer on Youtube)
  • 63,300 plus shares on official page (record)
  • 2.3 million trailer views on Facebook
  • Official page has gained almost a million likes in 7 days since the trailer launched
  • Nearly 20 million Facebook users reached!

Twitter

  • Combined views on Youtube has crossed 4 million. Trailer was released after 2 hours. (Data includes views from T-Series, Red Chillies Entertainment and Yash Raj Films)

Others stats

  • The trailer was sent to Whatsapp users who had opted to receive the trailer on launch day.
  • More than 13 million Tata Sky subscribers were reached as the trailer was aired on the home channel (100).
  • Half a million people reached via SMS and Email.
  • About 1.25 crore people got to watch the trailer with Singham Returns i.e the audience in mass centres who may not have access to the internet or social media.

Overall, the strategy has worked big time. The trailer has generated huge buzz on social media, amongst the masses and the trade. What remains to be seen is, how much of it actually converts into ticket sales. During times when films like Singham Returns on 3600 screens and normal (non-festive) ticket prices is collecting 32 crore on its opening day, will Happy New Year be the first film to collect 40 cr? Now that’s the big question!

  • HNY should collect 40cr or so and break opening records just like srk’s previous 3 masala films (MHN, OSO and CE). Buzz is going to be huge and release date is good. And chartbuster songs can help increase buzz even more.

This kind of response is only expected from King and you won’t match if you go On nude walk on railway tracks( personally i was thinking amir 2nd poster in a bikini).

  • See the thing is that this was kind of forced on the users..like for example the tata sky one where 13 million were reached. It doesn’t mean that all of them watched the trailer. Also the facebook trailer is I think the first of it kind so obviously it had to be the highest. If PK or Bang Bang trailer(not teaser) is released the same way as HNY then I am pretty sure it will trounce it. Trailer overall is magnanimous in scale but poor in content.

    We all are aware of the marketing skills of Shah Rukh Khan, each time he comes with a movie, he brings some unique marketing strategies. Same goes for his next release Happy New Year as he has come up with some really excellent strategy.

    Happy new year is a musical film. Thus, we can expect songs of happy new year to be chart-busters which will eventually help create more buzz for the film which translate in more collections.

    It wont be helpful becoz trailer is one of the worst among the big ticket films which were released this year.

    Due to over promotion it will get the initial but again the fireworks will fizzle post the diwali weekend as most people will knw that it is TMK2 by then.

    SRK is a gud actor but his insecurity is losing him fans becoz he is making crappy films wid crappy directors.

  • 40 crore opening is almost sure should it release on 24th. But, the response to the trailer has been mixed, they had to disable like/dislike and comment section on Red Chillies’ channel. Like/dislike ratio on other channels is not great either.

  • SRK said in a recent interview “My films are like festivals. If you want to come, do come. If you don’t want to come, don’t come”. So all fans here stop fighting and follows his advice.

  • Another big point, getting many likes on a Facebook page isn’t a huge accomplishment since even a picture of any star from Salman, SRK, Hrithik, Aamir to Sonakshi receives over 100-200k likes. Just my 2 cents.
