FAN has collected Rs 19.2 crore on its opening day at the box office, which matches our ‘early estimate‘ of Rs 19 crore. The film has performed well at multiplexes in cities, but the collections at smaller centres was below-the-mark on Friday.
It was a partial holiday in parts of the country for Ram Navami, so the opening number without the holiday advantage would have been around the 16 crore mark. What that also means is, the film would do well to show growth on Saturday, but even if the collections are at around the same level as Friday, it would be acceptable. Growth on Saturday would mean the film has found acceptance with the multiplex audience.
Like other multiplex films, the next two days become extremely crucial now. Even though FAN has released on 3500 screens, the occupancy level at mass centres was poor on the opening day and the film is unlikely to perform outside those 30-35 cities – it’s at these very centres ‘The Jungle Book’ is also performing very well and could provide tough competition for FAN in the next few days.
FAN has recorded the highest opening day and highest single day collections for 2016. The previous best opening day was Rs 12.35 crore and highest single day was Rs 17.8 crore (Tuesday of Airlift). The fact that FAN has managed a total of close to 20 crore without any commercial factors in its favour, is a fantastic achievement. But because Friday was a holiday in the Hindi belt of India (including Maharastra) and the film featured a major superstar like Shah Rukh Khan, it was expected to collect around 10-15% more than what it has achieved on Day 1

Some idiots are giving excuses like less screens and blah blah for fan’s disastrous perfomance. They should know that Exhibitors always give more screens to bigger stars. Big star means higher no of screens. Eg- srk movies get more screens than Tushar kapur movies, because srk>>>tushar kapur. In the same way, Bhai movies get more screens than srk movies, which is a clear indication that Bhai>>>>>srk.
His latest ‘content rich’ partial holiday release fan gets 300 lesser screens than Bhai’s 2.5 years old ‘content less’ non holiday release Jai Ho. That’s shows the real AUKAAT of teesri khan…. LOL.

So the excuse being thrown about is that Content is not suffice to entice audiences to theatres to watch a King starrer.
Nowadays you also need a top heroine, popular songs n a great household name/ fame director and a few holidays in first week…. Hhhmmm I can recall Jab Tak Hai Mojo where you had not 1 but 2 top heroines, A top draw director in Yash uncle, popular music (crappy music imo) and ofcourse the Diwali holidays n yet that didnt set of fireworks at the BO…!

Guys, I saw many non-actor fans cribbing and saying Flop Ho didn’t have content and it got negative reviews, whereas FAN got positive reviews from all over.

I am an avid SRK follower but my SRK fans we have to believe these days salman khan is on a role of 8-9 blockblusters which have the same acting but suddenly he is able to pull people to see his movie which is hard to imagine

Our SRK did 2 roles very bad happy new year and dilwale but FAN according to me is a very nice conceptual film but it has limited appeal .We have to stand by him

You didn’t add the biggest advantage of Flop Ho into it’s kitty. That it was a remake of successful south movie (and don’t forget that south remakes have been the bread and butter of your bhabhijan since 2009).
And negative reviews for Flop Ho? Where? I guess, you all would have recommended Flop Ho for Oscar if that would have been come under your rights.
Also, B-Grade cast? But you never mentioned all these excuses at the time of release of Flop Ho. Did you???
And in positives of FAN, you have mentioned “Best director”. Really? How many movies Manish Sharma has directed in past and how many of them were successful?
And don’t just talk about production values. I still remember, Non-Actor has used the platform of Big Boss to launch the trailer. He had launched a game too, where you have to add your three friends into the chain and those three will add others three and that chain was supposed to be continued like that.
So non-actor went on a full promotional spree (as somewhere , even he was not sure about the success of his non-holiday release).
If you compare the promotional campaign of FAN with flop Ho, FAN had almost zero advantage over Flop Ho.

Let me give my honest verdict about Fan Movie. I’m neither SRK nor SK fan. The film is mixed with emotions, laughter and intense storyline. For a normal guy like me and who doesnt like SRK recent movies, I believe Fan will be a comeback movie for SRK though some part needs a better direction. Anyway I really enjoy this movie. The last part where selfie photos of Gaurav are shown, I find thats really emotional as I thought about a fan who can’t fulfill his dreams to be appreciated by his Idol. Sad.
BTW talking about collections this movie was not aim for the mass center, this movie targeted the multiplex audience. No songs, No national holiday, No lead cast except SRK. I think 19.2 Cr is a good number.
Now eagerly waiting for Sultan to be release.

But same movie , despite of negative WOM, again picked up on Sunday and not only that, it continued to dominate on weekdays too.
Hold on, not only weekdays, the same “Bad WOM” movie dominated the Xmas day as well and it continued to churn huge numbers before it finally stopped on a lifetime of 280cr+.
