FAN has collected Rs 19.2 crore on its opening day at the box office, which matches our ‘early estimate‘ of Rs 19 crore. The film has performed well at multiplexes in cities, but the collections at smaller centres was below-the-mark on Friday.
It was a partial holiday in parts of the country for Ram Navami, so the opening number without the holiday advantage would have been around the 16 crore mark. What that also means is, the film would do well to show growth on Saturday, but even if the collections are at around the same level as Friday, it would be acceptable. Growth on Saturday would mean the film has found acceptance with the multiplex audience.
Like other multiplex films, the next two days become extremely crucial now. Even though FAN has released on 3500 screens, the occupancy level at mass centres was poor on the opening day and the film is unlikely to perform outside those 30-35 cities – it’s at these very centres ‘The Jungle Book’ is also performing very well and could provide tough competition for FAN in the next few days.
FAN has recorded the highest opening day and highest single day collections for 2016. The previous best opening day was Rs 12.35 crore and highest single day was Rs 17.8 crore (Tuesday of Airlift). The fact that FAN has managed a total of close to 20 crore without any commercial factors in its favour, is a fantastic achievement. But because Friday was a holiday in the Hindi belt of India (including Maharastra) and the film featured a major superstar like Shah Rukh Khan, it was expected to collect around 10-15% more than what it has achieved on Day 1

@The Phenom: Hmmm.. stupid comparison. Dhoom 3 got a bumper opening and was record-breaking at single screens. It’s these single screens and mass centres that drop on Day 2. FAN is a multiplex film and to an extent WOM dependent. It’s these films that grow on Saturday. Like K&S, Airlift, Neerja etc.

These sallu fans are so much obbesed with numbers. A quality or good cinema doesn’t matters to them. Lets take an example in your language.

As per our very own Indicine, the only responsibility of a star is to bring the audiences to the theatres on opening day (and in opening weekend till an extent).
As you all know, on a holiday release, King Khan had already proven that he is the biggest crowd puller in the industry (with HNY collecting 44.97cr on opening day).
But , few retards kept on questioning his capabilities on non-holiday quoting the figures of MNIK (which released 6 years back).
But now, with a niche movie (which doesn’t have any song/masala/leading lady/remake factor/sequel factor/biopic factor/based on true incident factor) , King Khan gave an opening of 20 cr.
So now it’s been proven that both on holidays and non-holidays (irrespective of the genre of the movie), SRK is the biggest crowd puller.
Those, who still have doubts, ask your idols to release a movie on a non-holiday (That means complete non-holiday release out of Eid/Diwali/Xmas and other festive weekends) and beat the 20 cr figure.
Also, release your movies on holiday and beat the 44.97cr figure.
So guys, case has been closed.
Fan gets excellent reviews!!! With excellent reviews & positive WOM even Akshay kumar, Sonam kapur can give superhits (eg- airlift, neerja etc). If srk is really a bigger star than them then fan will have to become blockbuster at minimum. Otherwise he will be considered in the same league of Akshay, Sonam etc..!!!

the reason for low collection is there was anouncement from srk fans they will give 22 tickets to co workers so many srk fans were waiting for that free ticket.

Despite all the advantages that FAN had it only beat the opening record of Jai Ho by 1.94. Like Indicine stated if it was not for the partial holiday the collection would have been lower than Jai Ho which released two years ago and was Salman’s worst performer. You should also take into account that business grows every year and to be considered good right now FAN should have atleast collected above 20 crore.
