Dilwale Hit or Flop: Box Office Prediction

Shah Rukh Khan returns a year and two months after Happy New Year, with one of the biggest films of his career. Dilwale has a hugely popular star cast, immensely successful director in Rohit Shetty and the film has been made on a lavish budget.

More often than not, a commercial mass entertainer like Dilwale starring a superstar in the lead, guarantees a big grosser at the box office. But the release of Bajirao Mastani on the same day and the response that film gets, will eventually make a big difference to the lifetime collections of Dilwale.

The odds are in favour of Dilwale, because Bajirao Mastani would have to be a great film if it has to challenge the SRK starrer in the long run. The scenario was similar when Bhansali’s Saawariya released on the same day as Om Shanti Om. The fate of Saawariya was sealed on the first day itself and Om Shanti Om went on to be a box office blockbuster.

OSO wasn’t a great film, it was nothing more than a ‘timepass’ entertainer, but the advantage for films like Dilwale is that they don’t have to be extraordinary films to be successful. As long as the word-of-mouth is not negative, it’ll be advantage Dilwale.

Dilwale Business Economics

  • Total Costs: ? 145 crore (i.e Cost of Production ? 90 crore + Marketing ? 25 crore + producer Shah Rukh Khan’s acting fee assumed to be 30 crore)
  • Recovery from Satellite rights: ? 60 crore
  • Recovery from various other rights: ? 25 crore
  • Total recovery from non-theatrical: ? 85 crore
  • Total amount to be recover from theatrical revenue (India and Overseas): ? 60 crore

Since Shah Rukh Khan is the producer of Dilwale, the makers of the film have already recovered a huge chunk of their investment. It’ll be about delivering a big grosser, taking the lead against Bajirao Mastani and living upto trade expectations.

Advance Booking: The response has been terrific. Ticket sales for Day 1 is in the Rs 9-10 crore range, say trade sources. For the weekend, ticket sales have crossed the 15 crore mark.

Screen count: There isn’t too much clarity on the screen count yet, because theatres haven’t yet been completely finalised. Court cases, dispute over show ratio at multiplexes.. have also delayed and affected the advance booking. One of many reasons why two films should never clash on the same day. It was thought to be a good thing for the exhibitors, but looking at the hassles, even they would prefer solo releases for big films. A Bang Bang vs Haider isn’t a problem, but when two films that need 3000 plus screens each and have budgets of 100 crore plus, it’s a war for screens and getting the best shows at multiplexes. The expected screen count of Dilwale is around the 3000 – 3100 range.

IndicineFBO: We expect Dilwale to collect Rs 25.2 crore on its opening day at the box office. If the collections are in this range, it’ll be humongous for Dilwale because it would be achieving a number similar to Bang Bang (holiday) and Kick (solo release). We have got most FBO predictions right this year, fingers crossed for the last two films of the year.

  • Bajirao mastani is old slow and very boring.. One will feel sleepy instead watch comedy energetic romantic and wonderful dilwale.

  • Eros has already lost the clash
and now lost the case too
and will lose the cash too ;)

Everyone who will clash with SRK will lose clash case cash and everything.

  • bang bang >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>dilwale
tru fact.. total collection of dilwale ll b 166 cr in india n worldwide 350 cr…….

  • Dilwale will lead in each & every circuit tomorrow.

“Bajirao Mastani” badly need some great word of mouth to survive in front of “Dilwale”..

  • finally indicine also predicts the 1st day collection 25cr+.but I think the 1st day would be more than 26 cr.overall 250 cr is possible.hope for the best

  • Dilwale deserve to release widest film ever which isn’t possible due clash with bigger budget(150cr) BM so there is very low expectation/pridiction for Dilwale what i trust if Dilwale is liked by Youths n Loved by famalies then nothing can stop it to become huge grosser

  • Je Suis Ronaldo : Watched Dilwale Dubai. SRK take a bow & Rohit Shetty at his best. Tomorrow will watch it Again with family. Loved everything abt it.

  • Dilwale Review from Dubai Premiere – Completely satisfied & Most entertaining film!. 4/5
    By Priyanka Kapoor , Dubai.
    .
After their last outing in Chennai Express, I kind of had an inkling of what Rohit Shetty and Shah Rukh Khan were going to offer in Dilwale. Just another typical run-of-the mill entertainer.
    .
While Chennai Express didn’t leave me disappointed, it didn’t leave me in awe either. But Dilwale still does manage to look a lot more appealing from the promos, songs and the trailer. Living in Dubai, with a few spare hours to kill, I decided to go watch the film anyway. And two and a half hours later, I came out completely satisfied. Each Dirham was well spent!
    .
The film captures you in its very opening. The first bit of the story is told in a flashback where the protagonists are in their late twenties. Shah Rukh Khan is every bit his charismatic self. Kajol is drop dead gorgeous. And the chemistry between them hits the roof! Even after all these years, the two of them can still pull it off with panache. Let me clarify, Dilwale is no DDLJ. The relationship dynamics between SRK and Kajol is very different here. They are born into rival gangster families in Bulgaria, Vinod Khanna’s gang v/s Kabir Bedi’s gang.
    .
This very setting warrants large scale action pieces and Shetty doesn’t disappoint. With car chases and guns blazing, the action is easily at par with Hollywood! Khan is in top form, drifting his black sedan and firing away with his golden pistol at the same time, taking out the baddies ruthlessly and unmercifully. But a major twist awaits. A twist that is an ace up Shetty’s sleeve. The two warring gangs are about to make peace, for the sake of SRK and Kajol’s love. But all is not as it seems, with betrayal around the corner.
    .
The songs especially Gerua and Janam Janam are magnificent, and are going to stick with you throughout.
    .
The second part of the story, is where the cool kid Varun Dhawan and the subtly eye-catching Kriti Sanon come into the picture. Varun is SRK’s younger brother and doesn’t know much of the family’s past (of them being gangsters). Instead, SRK runs a huge car modifying garage (think DC) along with Varun. Varun, of course, comes across Kriti and falls head over heels in love with her. Or Manma Emotion Jaage, as he sings.
    .
Their love story now blooms, and is less tense than SRK-Kajol’s, but equally watchable. Varun with his charming smirk and Kriti with her beautiful eyes pull off almost every scene with ease. The energy between them is superb. Naturally, they fall in love. But there’s one catch. Of course.
    .
The direction by Shetty is awesome, to put it simply. His vision and the scale of the film is insurmountable by any other entertainer in this genre. There are no compromises on budgets and it reflects on the film.
    .
The comedy element in the film is its strength. With top notch performances from the likes of Varun Sharma, Boman Irani, Sanjay Mishra and Johnny Lever, you will definitely laugh out loud every time they are on screen. A special applause has to be reserved for them, as they lift up he film, the moment you feel it might lag.
    .
All in all, Dilwale was a great joyride with plenty to watch out for. Superb music. Stunning action. Unbelievable landscapes. Energetic youth in the form of Varun-Kriti. And of course, the enigmatic SRK-Kajol! Each of these elements can make you want to watch the film by themselves. And when put together,
    .
Dilwale is the great entertaining result! The film ends on a high note with Tukur Tukur, a song that you will keep singing to yourself long after the film is done..

  • Will be one of SRK biggest flops. He has shown so much arrogance over the past few weeks. Made all sorts of uturns etc. I am praying he gets a taste of his own medicine it’s time for him to learn a hard lesson and even if the film is a hit it wont make a difference to many people.

  • Saw the film it was Fabulous, definitely people will like it & it hits bulls eye, mass entertainment, comedy, action, romance, really beautiful songs with unexpected twists & turn and exceed the expectations SRK-KAJOL rocked with steller performance Sure Shot Blockbuster

  • It’s SRK fans duty to make DILWALE a winner as most political parties are against it.
So if DILWALE could collect anything above 175 crs. It would be great.
Plz go to only theaters for watching this solid entertaining movie and show them that SRK is SRK.

  • This is non-sense. Why would you include SRK’s fee in the budget if he is the producer of the film. He will get all the money which the movie will earn.

  • My bet is 230 Cr minimum with mixed wom and with positive WOM 290 Cr if BM receives mixed review. Any ways one thing is for sure that dilwale will beat soap opera’s (you know what I mean :) ) manipulated record even in the worst case. Soap opera collected 170 Cr but rajashree calculator jumped it to 207 Cr due to insecurity from dilwale storm. But nevertheless, srk and rohit films dont need manipulations.

  • From where and when SRK starts taking fees which you added in the total cost of the film? SRK doesn’t pay for films when he does film with Dharma or YRF so how his fees can be added when he himself is the producer of the film and producing it ? that’s quite strange..

  • People who have watched it in middle east and other countries giving it thumbs down. They are calling it mindless masala with no new story at all. Unofficial Amitabh’s Hum.
Some Rohit Shetty’s usual action comedy with unnecessary melodramas and twist and turns. Only thing is SRK-Kajol chemistry. They are asking for money back…. So, BM all the way…….

  • It wont cross 200 Crs no matter it become Hit or Shit or Supershit…. BM all the way… Boycott this liar.. Fraud… National Traitor

  • In 2016,
    Batman vs. Superman,
    Captain America vs. Ironman,
    Daredevil vs. Punisher,
    X-Men vs. Apocalypse,
    Mowgli vs Sher Khan,
    Raees vs. Sultan,
    FAN vs. Kabali,
    ………..etc.,
    2016 is year of Clashes.
