Detective Byomkesh Bakshi has collected Rs 4.2 crore on Day 1 at the box office. The film started well in the morning, but was affected by the release of Hollywood film ‘Fast and Furious 7’.
National holidays tend to benefit a film by around 35-40%, but that advantage was negated by ‘Fast and Furious 7’ at high-end multiplexes.
The costs of Detective Byomkesh Bakshi are on the higher side, so the film has to show considerable growth over the weekend to have any chance of recovering costs through theatrical business.
The word-of-mouth is mixed, while a section of the audience seem to have loved the film, the entertainment seeking audience is likely to stay away.

U needed a substantial actor who can pull off such meaty roles!….
I slept the way throughout the film… Sushant’s louzy dialog delivery is a big put off… He isn’t a star yet..not even if MsD biopic is a hit!
A well marketed yrf film goes down to due to loopholes..film required pace n speed .. Dibakar’s last hit Shanghai was slick film and actors did a commendable job which lacks here.

it is positive movie forward.we hv been successful in making ppl of theatre sleep.actually,it started with tevar when ppl in theatre were pulling each other’s hair.
so we decided to make them sleep by making roy n badlapur.
but we didn’t succeed as ppl left theatre mid-way.bt wid dbb we succeeded.kudos!

Bollywood has failed over hollywood-
1) becoz haider does 49cr n is above average while heropanti does 50cr n becums hit!
2) becoz bad actors like ranbir get media backung due to KAPOOR surname n all..and affair rumours get him fake hype..ppl r tired of this!
3) becoz ghatiya arjun kapoor is in industry n still get films of yrf/dharma becoz of Kapoor surname……!!..

Dbb is not that gud.. There r too many loopholes in script..Climax is very badly written..
overall its a slow paced film which is troturous to bear.. Sushant is not a star yet..

Yrf ruined it for dibakar by promoting it highly..also leading actor is unknown ..dibakar ‘s trust in metros may get dented by dbb..hope not!
Dibakar released shanghai independently without yrf of big banner…he came out flying colour as it was astonishing film n ended up profitable for him!! …

Great to see such movies coming from bollywood. The cinematography is fantastic. The ending is the best part of Byomkesh Bakshi. A kind of villain never seen before in bollywood is shown. Dont miss! 4/5

@ajinkya the reason bollywood is falling behind hollywood is that a particular flop kumar is doing craps like Joker, Entertainment, Gabbar, Rowdy rathore, k786, ouatimd, etc. the list is too long.
I dont know why akshay became an actor. He is zero in acting and gives only flops. He should go back to cooking.
Sushant is not a star yet. He is just a struggling actor. The collection of this film will prove this. And YRF casting sushant in place of Hritik in PAANI will backfire against them. If Hritik was the actor in PAANI, even if its cost is as high as 200 cr or more, the film would easily collect the investment from the domestic market even if the movie is not well received. and if the content is good, sky would be the limit and it would even gurantee the international success. But with sushant it seems imposible. A miscast……
