De Dana Dan Box office updates

Akshay Kumar’s De Dana Dan has opened to a fantastic response at the box office, once again reaffirming the stars super-strong fan following.

What came as a pleasant surprise are those long queues outside single screens across the country, with poor quality theaters in the remotest areas of Bangalore and Mumbai  bustling with people all excited to catch Akki, Paresh and Suniel once again on the big screen.

While the business during the weekends was strong all over the country, its the first working weekday business that holds the key to the film’s success at the box office. Fortunately for Akshay Kumar, unlike his other films this year, De Dana Dan held up pretty well on Monday recording close to 4 crores – aided big time by the strong business at single screens.

The reports in the media of a drop on Monday, is mainly restricted to the multiplexes, which witnessed a drop of close to 50%.

With both films (Paa – Radio) releasing this week, targeted mainly at the multiplex audience, the second week of De Dana Dan should remain strong on single screens. HIT status or more looks highly likely now.

****************************************

  • Day 1 (Friday) – 6.75 crores
  • Day 2 (Saturday) – 8.5 crores
  • Day 3 (Sunday) – 8 crores
  • Weekend – 23.5 crores
  • Day 4 (Monday) – 3.25 crores
  • Day 5 (Tuesday) – 2.75 crores
  • Day 6 (Wednesday) – 2.25 crores
  • Day 7 (Thursday) – 2.25 crores

Total Week 1 – 34 crores

****************************************

Week 2 – Not too great a start on its second Friday and with the Paa wave all over the country, De Dana Dan is no longer the first choice. Due to high costs and dip in business from Tuesday, the movie is likely to be the 3rd Average grosser for Akshay Kumar this year. 2 flops to begin the year and 3 average grossers to end it.

Week 2 is likely to be around 10 crores nett. DDD should wrap up under 50 crores.

  • Very good review Hina. Agree with you on most points including “Leave fan following aside while rating films”..

Films like Hulchul and Hungama, more situational than slapstick.. were two of Priyadarshan’s best films after Hera Pheri.. There was hardly anything funny in De Dana Dan.. Some scenes were, but nothing like rolling on the floor laughing types – as described by some members here. Remove Akshay Kumar out of it and the movie would have been universally thrashed.

For Akki fans like Amish and others his presence and facial expressions alone make the movie funny.. Fair enough.. But fan base alone isn’t good enough to make a movie a huge success.. Content is the King here, no star is and never will be.

De Dana Dan has crashed on Tuesday.. terribly at multiplexes (75% from Sunday) and slightly at single screens. Clear indications that, irrespective of its box office fate or budget.. an Akshay Kumar movie has been rejected for the 5th time this year.

  • DDD looks like a another flop since the budget is around 60 crore and it will only manage a lifetime gross of 42-45 crore and i think it will crash in its second weekend since it has crashed on tuesday?

  • I cant understand CRAP movie like AJAB goes on to become SuperHit….. Another Crap like DDD likely to be a HIT…. not more than for sure….

Now-a-days Content is not King…Its all promotion and good music….

DDD surely crashed on tues…. 2nd weekend holds the key for it to be a HIT…. It wont get more than a HIT status….

Anyways AKKI looks like has lost script sense…..

Some good movies like London Dreams & Kurbaan(though not so good but surely among better movies this yr.) flops….

What has happened with Indin Public????

  • Kurbaan would have done well if not for its dark theme and sexual content. London Dreams suffered due the epic failure of Main Aur Mrs Khanna and an excess of back-to-back Salman Khan films.

Content remains the key though.. Akshay Kumar + Good script = sure-shot box office success. Unfortunately, every film of his this year has been low, both on quality and content.

  • Budget isn’t 60 crores, its the heavy price paid for the all India rights (30 crores).. due to which the film has to do business in excess of 60 crores for HIT status.

If Week 1 is around 34 crores, DDD would need 26 crores for HIT status.. Anything less than 12 – 14 crores in Week 2 will mean Average to Above Average business.

Yeah agreed on you on this point Indiacine…

  • @indicine team,
i don’t think dat the DDD needs 50-60 cr to get HIT status.
its a medium budget movie,so if movie gets around 40-50 cr then it will be a HIT.
Though movie crashes heavily on weekdays around 50% but only in multiplexes not in single screen.
its doing exceptionaly well in small centers,so wat i believe,it will get HIT status not sure but probability is high..reason Radio not looking promisimg and PAA also only for multiplexes, dats wat i believe.

  • INDICINE TEAM JUST FOR U…..;)

Akshay has paid Rs 4.5 crore as advance tax against Shah Rukh Khan’s Rs 3.5 crore. Last year, Akshay had paid a total of Rs33 crore as tax, second only to King Khan’s Rs34.45 crore.

Says Analyst Amod Mehra, “He runs an industry of his own where he has taken on the mighty Khans and is still standing. Interestingly, he made it big after around 80 films. You can see he has a great connect with the masses as even after his films did not do that well since Jumbo (end of 2008), when his latest release opened at the counters, it got a phenomenal opening. People love Akshay for the entertainment he brings them. He has brought crores to the industry and filled his pockets too. Because of his appeal, he can demand astronomical figures and people pay him.”

FOR CRITICS HE HAS A SOMETHING TO SAY–

Akshay, who has never been a critics’ favourite, says: “Everybody is doing their work. They (critics) don’t like my work but people like me. I’m satisfied that I’m entertaining the people — my job only demands me to do that.”
I have four-five movies releasing every year, unlike others who have one or two. I have to put in this much more because I don’t think I’m very talented. But I know that by working harder, I can match them.”

FOR THOSE WHO THINK HE S DOING A LOT OF FILMS–

Khiladi says that so much work is making him sense a burn-out. “I’m passionate about what I’m doing and that has kept me going, but I feel that I shouldn’t be doing so much any more. I have promised myself and my family that from 2011, I will only do maximum three films a year. I have reached a level where I can afford to enjoy life,” he says.

  • INDICINE TEAM another article just for u……;)

U seem to like those fans who r crazy for their stars and those who write letters in BLOOD and commit SUICIDE for them,,.. u did tel me so here s an article of such a akki fan…;)

    Dont delete it….;)

Fan slashed wrists to meet Akshay Kumar:

Some fan stories are written in blood. And this is the story of a young fan of Akshay Kumar who slashed one of her wrists because she couldn’t meet him! But there is a happy ending. Says a source close to the actor, “Preeta (name changed to protect identity of underage girl) stalked him for a year. She’d run away from home in Lucknow to meet him and would land up everywhere just to catch a glimpse of him and talk to him. But Akshay always has heavy security around him and she didn’t get her way.”

Finally, in sheer desperation, the teenage girl landed up at his Juhu home and told the security guards she wanted to meet the star. Naturally, they brushed off the request. When the guards refused to let her meet her idol, she slashed her wrist. The guards panicked and rushed to inform Akshay’s staff who in turn informed Akki. The distressed actor, who happened to be home at the time, rushed out immediately. Seeing the girl’s physical and emotional trauma, he took her to a hospital in Juhu.

He realised that she was crazy about him and wanted to be with him all the time. She believed that Akshay was her husband. The source continues, “Once she was stitched up and out of danger, he spoke to her. He made her understand and try and see things from the right perspective, and even called her parents in Lucknow and got them to come to Mumbai. Then he invited the girl along with her parents to his home for coffee and asked them to take care of her.

He told her that she had to look after her parents as family is important and he was very attached to his own. Now the girl’s parents have sent her abroad for her further studies but she’s in touch with Akshay once a month. She writes to him keeping him posted about her developments.”

    Hope u enjoyed this one…..;)

  • OSCAR LIBRARY SHOWS KEEN INTEREST IN ACQUIRING SCREENPLAY OF DE DANA DAN!

By Bollywood Hungama News Network, December 2, 2009 – 19:55 IST

Bollywood never had it so good. Bollywood films are very much making it big globally and here’s another proof to support this fact.

After having acquired films like Parineeta, Sarkar Raj, Namaste London, Heroes, Rock On, ‘The Library of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences’ has now shown keen interest in acquiring a copy of the screenplay De Dana Dan for their permanent core collection.

For starters, the scripts in the Library of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences collection are made accessible for research purposes only, wherein students, filmmakers, writers and actors are among our regular patrons.

Confirming the news, Ratan Jain, the producer of the film De Dana Dan said that “Yes, we have got a request from the Library of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences to acquire a copy of the screenplay of De Dana Dan. I am really humbled by their request and proud as a producer to send my film to become a part of such a great library”.

As we said earlier, Bollywood never had it so good!

  • @amish: there is some problem i think becoz AKKI paid the higheset tax for last year

    just check this article http://www.metrojoint.com/blog_more/Akshay_Kumar_Tops_Highest_Tax_Payer_List_in_Bollywood/pid/29885/userid/19230

There are many such articles . thses guys just want to show that Srk is above all which is not the case . No doubt the only king of this industry Is Amitabh who despite being 60+has films being made around his character .

anyways the information in that article is not correct even i read that

  • PRIYADARSHAN INTERVIEW – Briefly..

De Dana Dan is a BIG HIT even in PAKISTAN where it’s running to PACKED houses in a theatre with shows from 9 am to 2 am.

NOTE FOR THOSE CRITICS WHO BASHED DDD..;)

”Films are meant to generate a mass reaction. No point in making a film with one of the biggest stars of the country which only a handful of people want to watch.”

”Some of them have commented on how massy it is. Others have said they couldn’t follow the plot. Even my driver was able to follow what was going on.”

Today commercial success is more important for the survival of our film industry than ever before. Don’t critics want films to do well? Don’t they want the industry to make money so the movie business can get back on its feet? If audiences want to watch happy films who is going to stop them?”

If some critics haven’t liked it at least they should’ve the grace to admit the common man loves it. Say, you don’t like. But don’t make up your mind for the masses, please!”

    CHANGE YOUR WAY OF THINKING—“CRITICS”!!…..;)

  • HINA– just to ask u… Movies in Pakistan plays only in Lahore? no other place wer it plays? ppl have to come to watch a movie al d way to Lahore?

“where it’s running to PACKED houses in “A” theatre with shows from 9 am to 2 am… “– they have mentioned in A theater.. so it doesnt mean All d theaters….;) they have not mentioned Lahore in particular…;)

Indicine team replies al those who have their rating and arguements similar to theirs…;) so dont feel happy on their appreciation dude…;) ha ha

If tomorrow u argue against them on Veer dont think u `ll get similar response.. infact u `ll get a tauntful reply…;) ha ha

  • @amish lolz…. haha.. pk is a small country and lahore or karachi is the only place where movie does business… There are no shows at 9am ever and in winters they close 2am shows…Karachi ppl reject bollywood movies.Other cites like gujranwala, sialkot and pindi they mostly run pakistani movies…ok got it dude.Sing is king did all its business at DHA… Dun worry about Indicine they screwed me on LD page by deleting my comments…Indicine like u alot… So y dun ur comments match to them…I will promote Veer when I watch it..Even though he is my fav actor..But unless I watch it I have no predictions..Maybe when music is out I will tell u..The way Salman is selecting movies he will win critical acclaim 4 sure….

  • people i am from pakistan !! i was going through the comments and there i found a comment by a pakistani girl HINA !! according to whom SALMAN KHAN is the biggest super star here !!

that is bullcrap !! SALMAN doesn’t have a huge fan following here !! people are crazy about SRK & AKKI !!

all time hit record in pakistan is by LOVE AAJ KAL !!

ad almost all akki movies are received well here !!

    SINGH IS KINNG WENT HOUSEFUUL

    EVEN KAMBAKHT ISHQ

AND NOW DE DANA DAN IS HOUSE FULL !! AND LOOKS SET TO BREAK THE RECORD OF LOVE AAJ KAL !!

as for srk !! he hasn’t had many releases lately !! so i think MY NAME IS KHAN IS ALSO GONNA RULE HERE !!

BUT CURRENTLY AKKI IS THE BIGGEST SUPERSTAR HERE GOING BY THE BO COLLECTIONS !!

  • Hina and Amish:
why r u fighting about DDD;s business in Pakistan.
i am pakistani and i m from lahore but for a long time i m in sydney.
i told u before that who cares about the business of Pakistan??? Pak Rs is near to half of indian Rs ( unfortunately) . if it will work very very good may be it can get 5 cr Pak rs whcih will be nore more then 2.6 cr IRS.
but i confermed from my friend about this matter who is in lahore , he said that 2012 , ajab ghazab and DDD are earning good . all these movies have good colections.
Hina i m not sure about timming of movies now a days but when i was in pak on eid’s 2nd and 3rd day movies starts from 11:30 am on single screens but now lhore has 3,4 muliplex DHA and SOZO Gold,SOZO world, so may be they start shows by 9 am due top eid holidays.

  • superhittttttttttttttt.
akshay the real king of bollywood…

After having acquired films like Parineeta, Sarkar Raj, Namaste London, Heroes, Rock On, ‘The Library of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences’ has now shown keen interest in acquiring a copy of the screenplay De Dana Dan for their permanent core collection.
AKKI RULZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ… akki is the best..

  • @nauman gud to know that u r also pakistani.. nope yar they haven’t started shows at 9am yet in pk..I am not fighting.. just was giving arguments..BTW m looking 4wd 4 ur Paa Review..

  • Amish, we dislike statements like “He runs an industry of his own where he has taken on the mighty Khans and is still standing.”

The Khan’s aren’t might enough anymore. These is room for 10 – 15 superstars in the industry. The more the better. And frankly speaking the days of ‘true superstars’ are over, atleast here in the Bollywood. It ended with Amitabh Bachchan here and should end with Rajnikanth in the Tamil industry.

In Bollywood the likes of Shahrukh, Hrithik, Aamir, Akshay and given the right roles Salman are all capable of breaking each others opening week records.. If Shahrukh has OSO and Rab Ne, Hrithik has Krrish and Dhoom 2.. If Aamir has Ghajini and Fanaa.. Akshay has Singh Is King, Welcome.. Salman has Wanted and Veer, which should open to huge numbers..

Ranbir looks promising but too early to call him a superstar.

Defending the junk that Akshay has churned out for the 5th time this year ain’t gonna help. The sooner he realizes the reason behind the first weekday crash, the better. Such movies are fine once in a while, but 3 – 4 per year is a utter waste of time, money (includes audience, producers, distributors) and most important – talent of the man!

Wouldn’t you yourself, being an Akki fan, be over the moon if the movie receives universal acclaim both from critics and audiences.. and ends up with 80 – 90 crores at the box office? Think about it.. :)

And Vick, your ‘rude’ and at most times vulgar comments are deleted anyway.. so why bother with those 2 – 3 comments?

  • indicine who told u era of superstar ended wid amitabh..salman khan has more fan following than amitabh srk..btw aamir srk hr all duin 1 movie a yr..hats off to akki nd sallu for doing 4 5 movie thats keeps multiplex running.ye khne me aasan hai ki akki kum movie kre,.akki ll do less movie if those lazy guys do sum movies..

  • Salman may have loads of fans.. But if fan-following doesn’t even translate into a face saving opening (yes, Main Aur Mrs Khanna), then it just shows the man is loved, but not his movies.

Having said that Salman has nothing left to prove, he has been in the industry long enough, proved himself many times over and remained a superstar for the best part of the last 2 decades.. He’s a legend, undoubtedly.

  • people are after akki and sallu all the time !! have u guys ever thought what will happen if even akki and sallu start doing 1 movie a year .. ??

half of the industry is gonna be on the roads !! both of them are providing revenue to the industry !!

and the fact remains !! each and every movie of akki recovers its cost !! and those movies would have achieved far more if it wasn’t for the propaganda against them !!

it is very easy doing 1 movie a year and that movie doing a business of 100-120 CR !! but its sure as hell difficult doing 4 movies a year and all of em earning 30-45CR !!

    think about this !!

AKKI & SALLU all the way !! :D

  • INDICINE TEAM– u hate tat statement?? he he but tat was given by one critic…;) not me…..

Regarding overdose of akki– he has already stated he `ll reduce d number from 2011..;)

U dont read my comment /article completely… always in a hurry to take some points out of it n reply…;) he he

Regardin 1st weekday crash — let it be aamir or SRK , even their movies `ll crash.. tel me one actors movie which `ll have d same collections like dat of a sunday on a monday… unless its a holiday…;) (wow tat`s rhymin.. he he)
