Chandni Chowk To China Movie Review (CCTC)

After the super successful Singh Is King, Akshay Kumar is back with Chandni Chowk to China produced by Warner Bros, one of the largest production houses in Hollywood. The film directed by Nikhil Advani (Kal Ho Na Ho, Salaam-e-Ishq) also stars Deepika Padukone and Ranvir Shorey along with Mithun Chakraborty in a cameo. Chinese Martial Arts actors Gordon Liu (Kill Bill) and Roger Yuan are also a part of the movie.

The pre release hype has been huge, with talks of Akshay Kumar turning into a global sensation and extending his fan-following further. Trade pundits believe, with decent word of mouth, Chandni Chowk To China can in fact beat the Rs 200 crores (worldwide gross) record set by Aamir Khan’s Ghajini in less than 3 weeks. Does Nikhil Advani – Akshay Kumar deliver? Or do they need to? Welcome, Singh Is Kinng and many other Akshay Kumar comedies, being mediocre at best, have worked big time at the box-office.

Sidhu (Akshay Kumar) is an uneducated naïve yet a superstitious man hailing in Chandni Chowk, Delhi. Despite the kicks and advises from his Dada (Mithun Chakroborty), down on his luck this vegetable cutter from the paranthe wali galli visits all possible saint’s, tarot reader’s and baba’s in search of any form of luck. Just when he had given up all hopes of getting something out of the luck charms to make his life, two men from China come in search of him claiming him to be the reincarnation of a war hero from the past and with an offer to take him to China. Sidhu blissfully sets forth to China with Guru Chopstick (Ranvir Shorey) who instigates dreams of a delicious future and forgets to reveal the menace which awaits him. He dreams of a wonderful life with his dream girl, who he calls Ms. TSM (Deepika Padukone), on his way to china. Will this clumpsy weak man live to the hopes of the villagers in fighting against evil and buy them their freedom?

Chandni Chowk To China Review

Akshay Kumar himself claimed recently that the movie lacks sense. Chandni Chowk To China not just lacks sense but rather has no story. Unfortunately, the movie is poorly directed and mostly filled with over the top performances. The first half is a complete drag; the pace is extremely slow and the film is completely dependent on Akshay Kumar and his by now trademark antics to carry it along. But watching his previous 10 odd back to back films with the very same mannerisms, it’s getting awfully hard to sit through.

The second half is better, the action is great but the climax is as flat as a cola without fizz. After all the build up, which consumes the entire second half, a thrilling climax is the least you can hope for. You expect it to be a serious combat between the good and the evil, but the director has instead opted to make it funny. Funny it is, but convincing; it isn’t.

The action is top class, going by the standards of Hindi films. Choreography is brilliant and the way Tere Naina is picturized is nice. The music is good, the Chandni Chowk To China Title song and the S.I.D.H.U track stands out.

Akshay Kumar is getting extremely repetitive with his characters. It’s the same as what you saw in many of his previous films. He’s hilarious at times but while you watch him perform, you get the seen-those-a-million-times-before kind of feeling. Why can’t a capable actor, commanding super popularity, with many talented directors eager to sign him on; attempt something different?

Deepika Padukone looks stunning and has put in a lot of effort into those action sequences. In a negative role, as a Chinese, Deepika is brilliant. Mithun Chakraborty is fine in a short role. The talented Ranvir Shorey disappoints. The Chinese actors are good!

Overall, for a movie that has been hyped as one of the biggest release of the year, it has about 2 – 3 funny scenes and a couple of good action sequences! That’s about it. If that’s good enough to spend your hard earned money on the film, go for it.

Finally, with a hope that Akshay starts experimenting with his roles and tries something different for a change, I go with 2 stars for Chandni Chowk to China. Disappointing!

Rating: ★★☆☆☆

Other Notes – The funniest thing about the film was the potato with the shape of the Hindu god Ganesha. Akshay somehow manages to hold on to it throughout the film. Bodies are broken, blood is shed, Akshay is thrown from the top of the Wall of China.. but through it all.. the potato manages to survive!

On a serious note, CCTC is strictly for Akshay Kumar fans, others stay far away. What really baffles me is, why doesn’t Akshay try something different? Why is he stuck with his same old successful formula? You might argue that the same movies are working big time at the box-office. I don’t deny that, but wouldn’t an actor love to have a movie like Taare Zameen Par, Chak De India or a Jodhaa Akbar in his filmography? Hope things change with Eight by Ten directed by Nagesh Kukunoor, which I believe could be Akshay’s best movie in a long long time!! • @Fathiya
Comedy is a strongest point of akshay Like emotional scenes is of srk. How can u say that he only do cheap comedy movies? Namstey london,Bhool bulaiya etc. are the movies without comedy. And for god sake dont compare akshay wid ranbir. yaar Akki is damn senior than him. Ranbir should learn frm Akshay. Srk also should learn frm akshay. Critics also slammed rab ne than it was a bad movie ?? In the interview he was not saying serioulsy that he is doing bakwaas movies. It was a joke. Why he will do bakwaas movie? Is he mad? He does not care for his career? ANSWER THESE

  • Punjabi Sher: I think u r also very young in your age, I can guess that you aren’t older than 23 years old, am I right? I guessed that Sudeep is young and he’s.. I was right.. what about you?

I’m asking about your ages because it has something to do with your taste, what u like or dislike and the way u value or judge any movie. Now if Akshay said it himself.. admitted himself.. that he’s doing bakwas movies ( and he was serious) so that proves that he’s not a serious actor ( and he said he loves bakwas movies!!) it was during the interview with Anupama Sharma on NDTV.. I think that’s the host’s name if I’m not wrong and she was surprised and smiled when he said so!

That’s the path he took for himslef, comedy and shallow movies, and I (also) already mentioned that I loved Bhool Bulaiya & Namaste London was quite a good movie.. I loved also SIK although it had some flaws and the ending wasn’t that good, but I’m sure that these movies r much better than cc2c.. the trailer of the movie says it.. the potatos scene says it.

Dont’ be sad Punjabi Sher.. I know u love Akshay, so wish him the best and that he’d do in future some serious movies.. and.. if he didn’t win any best actor award this year during the awards functions, so we’ll hope that he’d be able to do it next year.

  • HEY HEY!

Guess what? I went to watch CC2C today at a theatre with 2 screens 1 showing CC2C and the other Ghajini. They had to cancel the Ghajini show. Screen 1 showing CC2C was house full and they had to move all the other cinegoers to Screen 2. Ghakini was canceled. Both screen showed CC2C HOUSE FULL.
Here in MAURITIUS CC2C is a SUPER DUPER HIT.

Here in Mauritius, we have the habit of watching many american, hong kong movies. Dat’s y CC2C is a total BLOCKBUSTER here. I liked the action and humour in the silly scenes.

I’m a hindu, but i believe Indians have to open their minds if they want to enjoy themselves at the Cine.
(this applies only if the film flops). Go watch Shaolin Soccer and Crazy Kung Fu. You will all appreciate the humour in those silly but superb action scenes.

    CC2C is a 1/3 funny movie, 1/3 Action (which i rate 8/10) and 1/3 emotional movie.
The only minus point was that the climax was a little short.

I Rate it 7.8 out of 10. Two Thubs Up. IT WILL BE A SUPERHIT. I’M SURE!

  • thank you Nitesh for your comment, let all this people know that this movie is a hit! people go see the movie

  • Thanks Ronnie, and completely agree with your comment.. Akshay definitely has the potential, but he is wasting it. This is the time, the moment! He needs to work with smaller, more talented directors, who IMHO I feel are more talented than the likes of Karan Johar and Aditya Chopra. Akki needs to work with directors of movies like A Wednesday, Dasvidaniya, Rock On…. there are so many. Wouldnt they love to work with one of the biggest stars in the country?

He needs to quickly ditch the average directors he is working with these days (read Anees Bazmee & co). Else Chandni Chowk will be the first step towards Akshay’s downfall. As I said in the review, being a Akshay fan since his Khiladi days, I hope Eight by Ten works for him.

  • Raghav, Good review! And i agree with you too. After Mithunda dies in the film, and Akshay turns serious about destroying Hojo, the climax should have been very intense. And Hojo who had been built up as a completely ruthless fella, suddenly turns out to be quite weak in the end. It seems like anyone could kill him.

Another flaw that took the impact away was Hojo throws Akshay against the statue, he bounces off it but it doesnt movie an inch. In the end though Akki throws that hat at it, the whole statue miraculously drops!

But you do sound stupid to point out such flaws in the execution, as the movie is branded – a mindless entertainer!

  • what’s wrong with you all?why do you insulte actors ,every actor has his domaine ,SRK has prouved that he can do any kind of movie not only romance;amir is better only in rebellion movie like rang de bassanti, akki for comedy ;but the worst thing is that akki begins to be over in his comedy and that turn wrong like in cc2c and proverb says :when thing depass limit it goes to opposite ,and that what happen to CC2C its like a cartoon movies its good for little child;and for who says srk is over you’re wrong and the prouve people has voted for RBDJ(nationnal awards) and if ghajini worked its because of SRK every one know that because of him all cinema open her doors after mumbay’s attack ;he has respect circonstance and stopped all publicity .Did amir do that?no ,he has mad alooooooooooooooot publicity for ghajini who cares about mumbay’s attack? that’s difference between SRK and amir ;SRK is more humain we love him for that

  • for raj:you say ghajini give a lot of respect for bollywood from hollywood how????????its acopy ,the idea is not new for hollywood and with all technology you can mad a hero from nothing;you dont see that hollywood make like a hindi movie now? like mamma mia ,enchanted and others full of song;you know why ?because now peopole need to see a romantic film so as to forget all war and all what happen in true life .And you know that there is a new event in all the world :the turkish serial,it work very very well all over the world because of romance ,and you can be sure of that by searching in the net .But bollywood that all people begin to love for the hindi massala begin to lost that

  • Fathiya:U can never decide what kind of taste we can have in future too…..Young generation know that SRK has become old…He only play same kind of movie except from chak de india….Only love story we are bored of this ….

SOme of the AKshay kumar best movie

“I have dabbled with action, romance, dance, emotion and comedy. I think I’ve done well in all. It’s important to keep doing something different and reinvent oneself to avoid stagnation from creeping in.” – Akshay Kumar

Rajiv Hari Om Bhatia, known to the Indian film audience as Akshay Kumar has starred in over 80 Hindi films. Kumar began his career as an action hero but has habitually altered the beat of his career by varying the genre of his releases by starring in romantic hits (Dhadkhan) and rib tickling comedies (Hera Pheri). Having reinvented himself several times over the two decades in the film industry, I thought it would be interesting to take a glimpse at the films that have shaped the career of the actor critics originally called the ‘glorified hero’.

    Khiladi

Starring Akshay Kumar, Ayesha Jhulka, Deepak Tijori, Sabeeha, Prem Chopra, Anant Mahadevan, Johnny Lever

    Directed by Abbas Mustan
    Produced by Girish Jain
Written by Aadesh K. Arjun (dialogues), S. Khan (story and screenplay)
    Music by Jatin-Lalit
    Release Date 5th June 1992
    Net Collections – Rs. 5, 75, 00,000 (1992)
    Adjusted Net Collections – Rs. 15, 48, 45,072

When you think of Akshay Kumar you immediately think of Khiladi. A film that centres on Kumar’s character – Raj, an individual who never walks away from a bet and is willing to do anything for money and his friends Boney (Deepak Tijori) and Sheetal Nath (Sabeeha) and love interest Neelam Choudhary (Ayesha Jhulka).

Covering a single summer and a bet that goes wrong, this 1992 Abbas Mustan suspense thriller was Akshay Kumar’s breakthrough role after a debut in Saugandh, which went unnoticed. This was the first in a series of films after which the title Khiladi became synonymous with Kumar, and the Indian Film Industry saw the birth of a new Action Hero.

The Khiladi series that followed this 1992 release epitomized his position in the film industry as an actor who was willing to do his own stunts when and where possible and experiment with something new, allowing the action directors of the time to push boundaries. Khiladi also gave Kumar his first top ten release; it is listed as one of the top ten films of 1992 coming in at number 8. A career shaping role – maybe not in the obvious sense but I think it helped Akshay Kumar on his journey as an actor. It gave Kumar a second chance, one which he grabbed with both hands and allowing his re-launch into the film fraternity to be a success.

    Yeh Dillagi

Starring Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan, Kajol, Reema Lagoo, Saeed Jaffrey

    Directed by Naresh Malhotra
Produced by Yash Chopra Aditya Chopra Uday Chopra
    Written by Sachin Bhowmik
Music by Dilip Sen Sameer Sen
    Release date(s) May 6, 1994
    Collections Rs. 67, 50,475
    Adjusted net Collections Rs. 1, 11, 15, 566

Sapna (Kajol), the daughter of the Saigal family’s driver, is a simple fun-loving girl who dreams of riches and her dream man. Vijay Saigal (Akshay Kumar) and Vicky Saigal (Saif Ali Khan), both heirs to Saigal industries have almost all the qualities of a dream man – almost, because “all work and no play” makes Vijay a dull boy and “all play and no work” makes Vicky an outrageous flirt.

Signed by Yash Raj Films, Kumar’s 1994 release Yeh Dillagi (a take on Audrey Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart starrer Sabrina), was his first foray into romance. Yeh Dillagi fared averagely at the box office, with the film doing well in the urban centres and not so well rurally. Featuring at number 20 for the 1994 releases, he received appreciation for his performance in his role as the boy next door where he was cast in the romantic lead opposite Kajol as the serious, hard working brother to Saif Ali Khan’s role as a flirtatious brat.

Kumar’s step away from the action hero image that he had cultivated paid dividend as he received his first nominations for the Best Actor award at the Filmfare and Star Screen ceremonies, which was an achievement considering the biggest hit that year was Sooraj Barjatya’s Hum Aapke Hai Kaun – a film that did 2,341 shows in 847 days of its run at Mumbai’s Liberty cinema.

    Dhadkan

Starring Akshay Kumar Shilpa Shetty Sunil Shetty Mahima Chaudhry Sharmila Tagore

    Directed by Dharmesh Darshan
    Produced by Ratan Jain
Written by Dharmesh Darshan Naseem Mukri ,Raj Sinha
    Music by Nadeem-Shravan
    Release date(s )11 August 2000
    Collections Rs. 10, 00, 00,000
    Adjusted net Collections Rs. 14, 47, 38,832

Dhadkan – a story of two guys Ram (Akshay Kumar) and Dev (Sunil Shetty) vying for the love of the same girl Anjali (Shilpa Shetty). A love triangle covering / family drama was the 2000 offering from Dharmesh Dharshan after the failure of Aamir Khan starrer Mela.

Released in the same year as Hrithik Roshan’s debut film Kaho Na Pyaar Hai, Abhishekh Bachchan’s debut film Refugee and Aditya Chopra’s Mohabbatein, Dhadkan was facing stiff competition from the onset, but it actually figured in the number 8 position for the top 10 releases that year.

Why is it mentioned here? Because I actually feel that this film truly showed the audience that Kumar wasn’t just an action hero. The film relied heavily on closeups to capture the expressions of the characters that Kumar delivered successfully. With his subtle expressions and effective line delivery that provided the conviction behind his character Ram, his performance was noted and nominated in the best actor award category at the International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFAA’s)

    Ajnabee

Starring Akshay Kumar Bobby Deol, Kareena Kapoor, Bipasha Basu

    Directed by Abbas Mustan
    Produced by Vijay Galani
    Written by Neeraj Vora
    Music by Anu Malik;
    Release date(s) September 21, 2001
    Collections Rs. 12, 00, 00,000
    Adjusted net Collections Rs 16, 73, 52,288

Abbas Mustan’s 2001 film Ajnabee draws parallels with 1992 Hollywood film Consenting Adults starring Kevin Kline, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, Kevin Spacey and Rebecca Miller.

Kumar’s experiment in a negative role paid dividends as Kumar won his first FilmFare Award for his portrayal of a negative character with Ajnabee. The film opened to mixed reviews with N K Deoshi (Apunkachoice critic) stating the ‘character in the film is imbued with some negative traits and strangely the director duo did not deem it important to give any justification for it’ and giving it average ratings, while Planet Bollywood gave him a 7 out of 10 stating ‘Akshay Kumar is the real star here.’

Ranking at number 9 in the top 10 releases of 2001, (a year that gave us Gadar, Lagaan, Dil Chahta Hai), Ajnabee was seen as becoming repetitive for Kumar – critics cited that this was the third time that he was seen in a role with shades of grey. My reason for mentioning it – well, even it was the third time Kumar was doing the role, and it was the most successful. He played his role as a money hungry, manipulative scheming husband/lover/friend to the hilt. I agree there are no justifications for his character’s negative traits but it can be put down to the director’s use of creative license. Akshay Kumar was definitely the star of this film.

    Hera Pheri

Starring Akshay Kumar Paresh Rawal Sunil Shetty Tabu

    Directed by Priyadarshan
    Produced by A.G. Nadiadwala
    Written by Siddique & Lal
    Music by Anu Malik
    Release date(s) March 31, 2000
    Collections Rs. 9, 00, 00, 00
    Adjusted net Collections Rs 13, 02, 64,944

Based on a coincidental wrong number, Hera Pheri is an action packed comedy remake of Siddique-Lal’s 1989 Malayalam release Ramji Rao Speaking.

Willing to change his intransigent image, Kumar ventured mostly into comedy films with his comic timing coming to the fore in films such as Hera Pheri, which was both a critical and commercial success. Hera Pheri showcased Kumar’s ability with comic roles, the same ease he presented in romantic and action roles. It was this ability that turned a slow starter into a hit through word of mouth where majority of the audience was surprised at the mature performance and the superb delivery of lines.

The chemistry between the 3 main characters helped with all having worked with one another previously at some point. Featuring at number 12 in the charts for high grossers of 2000 (the highest grossing film was Kaho Na Pyaar Hai), it did not do badly for a film that ran on word of mouth more than the actual marketing. The critics called this film a Paresh Rawal film, so why have I mentioned it? It is one of Kumar’s best comic performances. I agree that Paresh Rawal was superb in this film and so was Suneil Shetty, but you cannot mention Hera Pheri without mentioning Akshay Kumar, and I think most film going audiences will agree with me.

    Namastey London

Starring Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Upen Patel, Rishi Kapoor, Javed Sheikh, Nina Wadia, Directed by Vipul Amrutlal Shah

    Produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah
    Written by Suresh Nair
Music by Himesh Reshammiya, Javed Akhtar (lyrics)
    Release date(s) March 23, 2007
    Collections Rs. 29, 63, 21,233
    Adjusted net Collections 31, 68, 71,488

With the tag line ‘A British brat meets a ‘Funjabi’ boy’, I think that this is my personal favourite Akshay Kumar film, therefore it could not be left off the list.

2007 proved to be Kumar’s most successful year professionally, and was described by box office analysts as “probably the best ever recorded by an actor, with five outright hits and no flops.”
Namastey London was his first release that year and opened to a good response, mainly picking up rhythm after the second and third day of its release. The film was critically and commercially successful with Kumar’s performance being widely appreciated by one and all. Critic Taran Adarsh commended Kumar’s performance and wrote, “He’s sure to win the hearts of millions of moviegoers with a terrific portrayal in this film.” Adarsh continued and said, “One of his finest performances so far, Namastey London also marks the coming of age of an actor who was often dubbed as an action hero or a funster. Akshay not only wins the heart of Katrina on screen, he’s sure to win the hearts of millions of moviegoers with a terrific portrayal in this film.”

Akshay Kumar’s performance earned him a Best Actor nomination at the Filmfare Awards. Why have I mentioned it here? Well, apart from this being one of my personal favourites, I think this performance reflects the growth made by Kumar professionally. Comparing his acting in Khiladi to his performance in Namastey London – the changes are vast.

I was watching a program and a discussion was taking place regarding Bollywood actors and their career graphs and what would be an exciting career graph – the definition provided then was a career which reflected as many varying roles as possible. Not to stagnate yourself and continue in a similar vain throughout your career.

Looking at Akshay Kumar’s career graph, I honestly do believe that he has held true to his belief to keep doing something different and to keep re-inventing oneself. If he carries on this way, I think we have yet to see the best of this actor as he will only get better and better. 2009 has some big releases lined up for this superstar, the first being Chandni Chowk to China which hits theaters on the 16 January. All I can say is Let the Box Office Magic Continue.

  • Sudeep: what a long comment! U didn’t have to waste your time writing all these, anyway, as you’re only 17 years old, so it’s hard that we get along, and therefore in the past, I couldn’t get along with P. Sher, I didn’t know that he’s that young, only 17 years old! ( if I knew, I would’ve never argued with him)

I know in your age, u think differently, u love movies which older ppl don’t ( and I’m not blaming you here for this or asking u to love what I love), so we don’t have to convince each other, and do u know which way I could guess that your’re a young boy? Because u and your colleauges who’re from your age and love Akshay Kumar who’s also around forty, kept on saying (always) that Shahrukh is old, why this budda still acts, he’s to retire or leave bollywood!!

You don’t like Shahrukh therefore u see him old! how many years is he older than Akshay Kumar?! 2 or 3 years at maximum.. and 2 or 3years more or less won’t make any actor an old man or a young man, therefore u need to growup and think properly. Salman, Aamir, Akshay, Shahrukh, Sanjay.. all your biggies of bollywood are around forty.. so why do u always say that Shahrukh is old but u don’t mention this about others?!!!!
And.. no one even believe that Shahrukh is 43 years old as he looks younger than his age, he doesn’t look more than 35 years old ( but Akshay started to look older since he changed his hair style and I think he lost weight) Till the movies Bewafa & Aiteraz, he was looking great, but now, he really looks around 40, and needs to work on his look again.

  • i was so excited before to watch cctc because its a long time that akki done a action movie and belive me after watching this movie i have no words about it . akki action movie turns to balakrishna’s action movie.one of the worst movie of akshay kumar .

  • THE FILM CCTC, I BELIEVE, IS NOT FOR THE INDIAN AUDIENCE.

IT IS MAINLY GEARED TOWARDS THE WESTERNERS AND FOREIGN PEOPLE. THOSE WESTERNERS AND FOREIGN PEOPLE THAT HAVE SEEN THE FILM, HAVE LOVED IT !!

ITS ONLY THE INDIAN AUDIENCE THAT HAVE TRASHED IT. THE REASON BEING IS BECAUSE THEY PROBABLY HAVE NOT SEEN A MARTIAL ARTS KUNG FU FILM BEFORE. IN THE LIKES OF ‘KUNG FU HUSTLE’, ‘CROUCHING TIGER HIDDEN DRAGON’, ETC . THESE ARE ZANY MARTIAL ARTS COMEDIES WHICH WERE HUGE HITS IN THE WESTERN COUNTRIES. SIMILARLY CCTC IS BEING LOVED BY THE FOREIGN AUDIENCE, BE IT IN MAURITIUS, CANADA, OR THE U.S.A. AND THE FILM WILL DO EXTREMELY WELL IN FOREIGN COUNTRIES. THEY COMPARE THE FILM TO ZANY KUNG FU COMEDIES LIKE ‘KUNG FU HUSTLE’. THESE TYPE OF FILMS ARE VERY POPULAR WITH THE FOREIGN AUDIENCE.

ITS MORE OF A HOLLYWOOD TYPE OF FILM, HENCE THE REASON WHY THE INDIAN AUDIENCE ARE REJECTING IT.

I BELIEVE THE ONLY REASON WHY THE FILM MIGHT NOT DO WELL OVERSEAS, IS BECAUSE OF THE REVIEWS THE CRITICS HAVE LEFT. MOST FOREIGNERS WILL READ THE REVIEWS AND DECIDE NOT TO GO AND SEE THE FILM. THIS IS VERY UNFORTUNATE FOR AKSHAY, HE DESERVES MUCH BETTER THAN THAT. THE CRITICS SHOULD REALLY LAY OFF HIM, AND AT LEAST HELP HIM OUT A BIT BECAUSE HE IS THE FIRST MAINSTREAM BOLLYWOOD MALE STAR WHO IS TRYING TO MAKE A SPLASH IN HOLLYWOOD.
SO THE INDIAN CRITICS SHOULD AT LEAST TRY AND SUPPORT ONE OF THIER OWN TO MOVE UP THE LADDER. GIVE HIM A BIT OF SLACK.

BUT THE FOREIGN PEOPLE THAT HAVE SEEN THE FILM HAVE LOVED IT. I SAW IT AGAIN YESTERDAY FOR THE 2ND TIME.
THIS TIME IN THE AUDIENCE THERE WERE SOME BRITISH CHINESE PEOPLE. THEY WERE LOVING THE FILM.
I APPROACHED ONE CHINESE GUY AFTER THE SCREENING AND ASKED HIM WHAT HE THOUGHT, HE SAID ITS A WONDERFUL FILM AND HE REALLY LIKED IT. HE SAID IT WAS ONE OF THE BEST ENTERTAINING FILMS HE HAD SEEN FOR A LONG TIME. HE SAID IT WAS A ENJOYABLE EXPERIENCE. THAT HE FELT GOOD AFTERWARDS.

SO, THERE YOU HAVE IT. THE FILM WILL BE A HIT OVERSEAS (THE ONLY REASON WHY IT MIGHT NOT BE IS DUE TO THE CRITICS REVIEWS WHICH COULD PUT PEOPLE OFF).

INDIAN AUDIENCE IS NOT FAMILIAR WITH THE MAD CAP MARTIAL ARTS COMEDY GENRE. HENCE THEY DONT UNDERSTAND THE FILM. THATS THIER PROBLEM.

  • U are right Fathiya Im also of 17 yrs old. Today i have seen cc2c and belive the movie was fantastic. Grt comedy and action scnes. I just loved it. Akshay’s acting was fabulous once again. I think indian viewiers will not like this movie bcs it is an hollywood type of movie. I think the story of the movie was also good as some people said this before. It is a diffrent type of movie.

Can anybody tell me how this movie is going in overall india?

  • Sudeep my frnd ur right. My fav. movie of akshay is also namstey london.
And Fathiya now u can see the popularity of akshay in india and imagine How big star he is? And that’s why he also got the most popular actor award by the audience of india.

  • hey,

CCTC has received good reviews from some critics as well.

so, it proves my point that the film is actually much better.

so it is not exactly bad reviews everywhere. there are some critics who have left good reviews.

check out http://www.musicnmovies.com, and read the chandni chowk to china film review.

this critic has given it 4/5, and has said that it is ‘one of the most thrilling action comedy films’ he has ever seen. and the movie ‘does not have a single second of boring moment’ and is ‘a complete family entertainer’. he also goes on to say that ‘it is very rare in bollywood to see such a fun filled masala movie’.so that proves my point that the film is actually quite good. i have seen the film twice now, and it is a very entertaining film, despite its flaws.

i cannot understand why some critics/people are saying bad things about. it is not that bad.
for those of you who have not seen it, it is definately worth watching.

  • Just as I figuered add another Scalp to SRK’s war chest. They come, and stay strong for 2 years, and SRK DESTROYS THEM after that. Rab Ne Bana De Jodi Blockbuster CC2C Average.

  • Yes, Shahrukh Khan remains King of Bollywood, as much as I hate to admit it. The Golden Globes said so, People magizine rated him the best. Also he truely is the only international bollywood superstar. This dufus trash, will now make Non Desi’s believe Bollywood is garbage. People who havnt actually seen masterpieces by SRK And AMIR KHAN. Akshay is actually hurting bollywood now, and because of a few racists in Punjabi, who dont like the Khan’s for obvious reasons that will remain unsaid, garbage like CC2C will be average instead of flop. ANyways please warner brothers, produce Amir Khan, or at least Shahrukh Khan. Who actually make decent movies.

Akshay Take a break and regroup and try to come back, though there’s not much time your already 42. In other words add another scalp to the legend KING KHAN’s war chest. BOW TO THE KING!

  • hey Priyanshu Iyer, i dont knw abt wat SRK will do but u surely will b biting ur nails by the end of the year….either Hrithik, Akshay or Aamir will b heavy on him, as was the case in 2008.

  • nitish

you are absolutely right about the film.

    aiglenoire

what i meant was that ‘ghajini’ is a very well made film. the technical aspects of it are excellent. so that film would be the right film to showcase to hollywood, as it is very well made and should impress hollywood. that is what i meant. regardless of whether its a copy of memento or not.

  • cc2c is a disaster in india and overseas whatever unbelivable promotion.

    but rab no promotion.

Shahrukh Khan in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, which released worldwide five weeks ago on December 12th 2008, has grossed a phenomenal Rs. 180 crores worldwide till date and has broken all previous box office records for Yash Raj Films, as well as become the highest-grossing Shahrukh Khan film till date. The film was released at an extremely precarious time, just after the terror attacks in Mumbai on 26th November 2008. Amidst uncertain consumer sentiments and apprehensions from the trade regarding market conditions at the time, the film has achieved an unparalleled box office run against all odds. Moreover, the film had to further contend with the record-breaking onslaught of Ghajini on December 26th 2008, despite which it has continued unabated and endured a hugely successful run in its third, fourth and fifth weeks, and promises to carry on in the same vein going forward.

The total collections of Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi for the first five weeks in India are Rs. 83 crores net (i.e. gross collections of close to Rs. 140 crores). The film has thus surpassed Yash Raj Films’ previous highest grosser, Dhoom: 2, which collected Rs. 80.6 crores net across its entire run in India and is considered as one of the highest grossing films of all-time. Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi has also comfortably surpassed the collections of two of the biggest hits of the last 2 years, Singh is King and Om Shanti Om, and is now second only to Ghajini as regards all-time India net collections.

“RAB NE BANA DI JODI” IS THE HIGHEST GROSSING FILM OF THE YEAR IN THE OVERSEAS

The total gross collections for all overseas markets are $8 Million (i.e. around Rs. 40 crores), making Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi the highest grossing film of the year in the overseas, ahead of both Ghajini and Singh is King. In the UK, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi has grossed close to £1.5 million till date, which makes it the biggest hit of the last 2 years in this market. In the Middle East, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi has grossed a staggering $2.25 million till date, making it the highest grossing film of all-time in this region by a huge margin. The film has also achieved a fabulous box office gross of $2.1 million till date in the USA. Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi has also enjoyed a grand box office performance across all other overseas markets, such as Australia, Europe, Africa, and Asia, and ranks as the highest grosser of the year across these regions.

Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi has evoked a sensational response from audiences all over the world, which is clearly reflected in its record-breaking collections, and continues to win hearts across the globe as it goes forward from strength to strength.
