From the time Dilwale was announced for Christmas, it was expected to be a battle quite similar to Om Shanti Om vs Saawariya in 2007. The result, every trade pundit agreed, would be the same.
But when the ball was in the only court that mattered, the verdict from the audience was crystal clear. Right from the second day (when we published this article), there were signs that Dilwale was faltering at the box office. Major centres, where the word-of-mouth spreads quicker, weren’t holding up and the momentum had quickly shifted from Dilwale to Bajirao Mastani. More importantly, the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film has held on to it strongly after the first weekend.
Dilwale hasn’t performed badly, far from it. The film is set to be the 4th highest overseas grosser of all time and certain to be Shah Rukh Khan’s highest grossing film, because of a strong US dollar. The problem for the film has been its domestic business, but even here a couple of smaller circuits have performed very well. Bajirao Mastani has dominated the bigger circuits and sustained well for nearly 3 weeks now – not showing any signs of slowing down either.
Worldwide, Dilwale will be SRK’s 2nd highest grosser of all time, only behind Chennai Express in 2013. Clearly, a domestic under-performing film of Shah Rukh Khan is bigger than the biggest hits of a lot of other actors.
An update on #IndicineLBO (lifetime box office prediction): We had predicted on December 21st that Dilwale would collect Rs 145 crore at the box office and Bajirao Mastani would finish with Rs 168 crore. The final business will be well within the 10-15%, making both predictions accurate.

not convincing at all and really stupid as it’s not possible in the real life that a mafia guy would fall in love and would be a family man who loves his brother, who sacrifices.. what the heck!!! haha.. how is that possible?! and Oh.. his brother wouldn’t fall in love with any girl in this world except with his girlfriend’s sister?!!! what a coincidence!! and the worse is that his lady Kajol is also a mafia bad girl.. and suddenly we find her with love, tears, dreams and she acts as a good and a sacrificing girl who cares for nothing except for her sister’s!!
Bajirao Mastani: very nice and based on a true story and very convincing

SRK is really king of Bollywood and rohit shetty is a blockbuster director. Dilwale is good masala movie fully entertainment movie. Rohit shetty movies always family movies we can watch his movies with family I live in Canada and I always wait for rohit shetty movie to watch in theatre with my family. King khan, rohit shetty and Punjabi superstar diljit dosanjh are my favorite one day I want see them together in Bollywood movie which direct by rohit shetty they have good fan following in Canada specially Punjabi Canadian Punjabi always wait for their movies—————-

Bm is a epic, dilwale is family entertainer both are nice . Guys don’t under estimate the power of srk, he is undisputed king ( Shahrukh means shahi rukh – KINGS WAY. And wait for his (baniye ka dimaag aur miya bhai ki daring).And feel privilege to no other actor is as popular as srk in the world and he ranks second richest among actors in Forbes list.
Srk is a proud indian, and we feel proud to know that no other actor’s movie releases as srk’s worldwide. Look for DDLJ (mega block bluster) a movie still running from its release (19) yrs and still on. This is the karisma of srk.
@Fatiya,Bajirao story is real.U must be joking. Even the makers said they took the plot from a fiction.How can u compare the costume set etc of movies which are totally different? Who are critics ? They are also human beings like us and they also have different taste.May be we can compare Jodhaakbar with Bajirao.Both are of the same genere.
All this competitive talk gets us no where, Hollywood clashes between top stars and excellent films happen all the time…and most of the time both/all the films do well….sometime many may fail…but with Bollywood films, it is a rare case for two /three top productions clash. It is good when both films succeed because it is a step in the right direction….both Bajirao and Dilwale are great films, but are of different types, so most people will want to see both. No one would want to see either fail…Both internationally. and in India, both have done well In Trinidad and Tobago, a country with approx. 1.2M. people, 50% of East Indian Heritage Dilwali opened at four multiplexes, three weeks ago, with three to five shows daily and there is still no let up to the crowd and this with Stars Wars and many top class Hollywood movies showing simultaneously .Bajirao is due to follow in the next two weeks and the same sort of crowd is expected as most of those who saw the SRK movie will go to see the Bianca Chropa movie.
