Bajirao Mastani vs Dilwale Box Office Collection Comparison

From the time Dilwale was announced for Christmas, it was expected to be a battle quite similar to Om Shanti Om vs Saawariya in 2007. The result, every trade pundit agreed, would be the same.

But when the ball was in the only court that mattered, the verdict from the audience was crystal clear. Right from the second day (when we published this article), there were signs that Dilwale was faltering at the box office. Major centres, where the word-of-mouth spreads quicker, weren’t holding up and the momentum had quickly shifted from Dilwale to Bajirao Mastani. More importantly, the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film has held on to it strongly after the first weekend.

Dilwale hasn’t performed badly, far from it. The film is set to be the 4th highest overseas grosser of all time and certain to be Shah Rukh Khan’s highest grossing film, because of a strong US dollar. The problem for the film has been its domestic business, but even here a couple of smaller circuits have performed very well. Bajirao Mastani has dominated the bigger circuits and sustained well for nearly 3 weeks now – not showing any signs of slowing down either.

Worldwide, Dilwale will be SRK’s 2nd highest grosser of all time, only behind Chennai Express in 2013. Clearly, a domestic under-performing film of Shah Rukh Khan is bigger than the biggest hits of a lot of other actors.

An update on #IndicineLBO (lifetime box office prediction): We had predicted on December 21st that Dilwale would collect Rs 145 crore at the box office and Bajirao Mastani would finish with Rs 168 crore. The final business will be well within the 10-15%, making both predictions accurate.

Check out the day wise box office collection comparison between the two films.

  • Dilwale is a very good entertainer and Bajirao Mastani is no masterpiece but both are spread as worst film and masterpiece respectively.. By the time I finished watching Dilwale and wished to book tickets again for family and friends, I was pleasantly surprised to see the rating on BMS to be less than 60%!!

The desperation to pull down SRK is all time high but the opening of the movie ensured that the stardom of SRK is also very high (it challenged best openers with 40% less shows)..

Bollywood can’t afford to lose to politics.. If it does, already collapsing trade will sink.. Bollywood isn’t growing in last couple of years.. SRK can take things in his stride as he has achieved everything out there to do so.. But new kids have to stand up and speak for the fraternity or else they won’t last long collectively.. Only Varun (may be his movie released) spoke about the protests against the film and the silence if media and other industrywallahs.. Lot of people think SRK is arrogant and wish to see him lose but that shouldn’t happen on wring grounds..

  • Truth Has Been Said (Despite All Possible Odds)
Clearly, a domestic under-performing film of Shah Rukh Khan is bigger than the biggest hits of a lot of other actors. Happy At 150Cr!

  • Bajirao Mastani Surprise Hit For 2015….

NOW 2016, Collections of surprise hit are more interesting to watch than which are already expected….

  • Each Filmmaker Put Lot of effort to make a film whether it is good or not, it depend on audience
    we should respect their effort….
Both had done well in different aspects…

  • Both film have won!!!!

    Proud of u SRK!!
now we want only good content movies rather than masala movie.
Bcoz people invests money after reviews these days.
Its lot expensive to watch movies now a days mostly for a student like us..

  • Dillwale was not a great film but neither was Bajirao Mastani a masterpiece as it was made out to be by the media as well as social media. The fact is there has been a lot of negativity for SRK films since Ra.one, 2011. Bad films starring Salman Khan, Aamir Khan and other actors ( Eg. PRDP, Dhoom 3) are not portrayed as negatively in media as similar SRK films ( like HNY, Raone etc.). Bajirao Mastani benefited from the clash as due to the huge negativity against dilwale, there was a false positivity which was spread for it.

  • Loved both. Had it been avoided both could have crossed 200 crores respectively, since dilwale is a weekend bonanza. Nevertheless, Dilwale would become the secodd biggest of SRK and BM will be second biggest of DEEPIKA and First for RANVEER.Kudos. Dilwale performance oversease is a real surprise.

  • bajirao mastani is a clear winner here abd dilwale is clearly flop in india as this is shame despite huge starcast superhit music blockbuster director christmas date it failed to cross 150cr with huge ticket price this is sheer shame.

  • The Top Films For 2016
    Tuesday 05 January 2015 12.30 IST
    Box Office India Trade Network

The year gone by was a disappointing one with only a few films film doing well and only 2-3 films becoming big hits. The hope will that 2016 will stop this downtrend which has been going for the last two years. The list below is for the top films of 2016. Its not saying the below films will be the top grossers of the year as that is impossible to judge because content decides that. They should be the top initial takers of the year though a surprise or two will always pop up.

    1. Sultan – July 2016
    2. Dangal – December 2016
    3. Raees – July 2016
    4. Dishoom – July 2016
    5. Housefull 2 / Great Grand Masti – June 2016 / March 2016.

The above six films should all be initials of between 15-30 crore on the basis of a solo release and a non holiday release. Obviously competition and a non holiday will alter the numbers.

The other films which can take a good initial are the two Tiger Shroff starrers Baaghi and The Flying Jatt, the action factor with a young star is a plus and good music will ensure a strong opening day numbers.

There will be many films with chances on content but the two stand outs which can go very big will be Fan and Mirziya. Fan simply because it stars Shahrukh Khan and although the opening won’t be like a Shahrukh Khan film but if content is there the popularity of Shahrukh Khan will ensure it sustains at much higher levels than the normal content film.

Mirziya is a modern adaptation Mirza – Sahiban a huge popular romantic tale set in the Mughal times in North India. Basically blockbuster material for North India if presented well and the newcomers can act. It has chances to do 50 crore nett in North alone and with that sort of number even if the rest are not so big, a three digit final number is there for the taking. It should emerge the biggest newcomer film ever in terms of business unless makers adapt the content poorly or newcomers are not up to it.

The losers as usual will come in truckloads and in an industry where film makers of today just like to cater to the 75 odd premium multiplexes with the rom-com genre and thriller genre that is bound to happen.

  • 15 percent of 168 crores is around 25 cr, 168 /-25 gives a range from 143 cr to 193 cr. For dilwale it is 123 to 167 cr. So you would have considered your predictions accurate if films had finally landed anywhere between these numbers. WELL PLAYED. Your LBO Predictions for both movies were bang on, no two ways about that. It’s your criteria for accuracy which is baffling.

  • mission accomplished… im removing bajirao from my id.. so happy… as marathi.. n as a movie lover bajirao beat overhyped shetty.
waiting for sultan. a young team , hard working salman, vishal shekhar melody, n most important… its EID release…

  • The gap btwn BM and Dilwale is embarassing.
    I won’t call BM a masterpeace but it is a good film,some idiots even compared it’s WOM with 3 Idiots,BB and P.K.
BM would have easily been a BlockBuster if it had got a solo release.

  • so now listn with ears open
some srk fans (stupid 1s) saying he need 2 hits to beat rajesh khanna,.. wat kind of joke is this…
this is new movie business model nt like older times . this is promotion era..
1- out of 15 consecative rajesh khanna hits how many distributor or producer lost more than half of money like dilwale.

2- how many films get rejected by audience like HNY ra1 n dilwale

3- which rajesh khanna 15 hit lost straight box office clash to junior actor n small film.
stop trolling urself. n focus on fan n raees this yr.
n be ready raees is gona postponed . mark my words.

  • Bajirao giving a tough fight on worldwide basis as well..hope it will cross dilwale worldwide business..bajirao deserves it and dilwale is really a bad movie kajol sarook pair helped the movie in os…watched it in my frnds lappy yesterday..such a boring movie…and thats a neutral view by me..real boring movie..

  • BAJIRAO is full of outstanding performances . Its true
But Dilwale is a outstanding entertainer also.
box office numbers r for trade.
    not for us i think.
any can spread fake news but that doesn’t make any sense.
SRK cannot be pulled down by some haters
becsause they r very few n far n we r everywhere.
    love u king khan.
but this time Ranveer nailed it.
    and i accept that.

  • Last clash SOS went on made 100 Cr against SRK film clash n now Bajirao Mastani did 150 Cr means clash with SRK is very safe.

  • The best thing about BOI is they never give deplomatic answer on any question or any comparison.
Check the list of top films of 2016 acc. to BOI bellow

There are so many bollywood websites on internt. If you ask all of them the most awaited film of 2016 then most of them will say Dangal, not because they really think that but because they want to proove themselves as intelligent site.
They know that Dangal will be the most awaited film for so called classes which we call pseudo intellectuals and they want to show themselves as intelligent site but real intelligent people know that sultan is the most awaited film.
No offence to Amir Khan but this is the truth.

  • i remember….
wen pinga released evry 1 on indicine absolutly trashed it. nw the song is rage.
malhari song was compared to cartoon by @xzone nw see wat level it reached.
vry few had faith in film. it worked. i dnt think srk will get EID DIWALI OR CRISMAS now. unless he decide to clash.
this is a downfall. cause without big release his films which has to recover his promotional cost.. its really a mess now for srk.

  • SRK fans are crying on social media as twitter, facebook, whatsapp, BC Overseas me bhi Salman dominate kar raha hai…SRK Sir aap kahin ke nahi rahe…abhi khud ko King bolna bandh karo

  • The combined collections of dilwale and bm are almost 600 crore worldwide !!!!
imagine if dilwale was solo then it could collect in that range …..!!!!!!
sometimes the best way to fight against the shadows is to remain silent … srk !!
    proud of legend khan ..!!!!!
srk sir we all know that everything was against dilwale be it clash, protest , people’s response and less single screens.
Let’s see these people claiming that they prefer content over weak content
let’s see what they are gonna do with Fan which appears to be content-based movie
I hope people do not give any excuse during fan and Raees…. !!!!!

  • ranveer’s BM is a blockbuster . But No one can say that dilwale is flop as it is not around 100 crs. 150 crore is big thing. at least it’s a clean hit. And atb in overseas.
happy to see both movies together added 662.7 crores in just 17 days.

  • super manipulation in overseas collection of dilwale and there is no other source to check it except producer figure where thre is lot of independent source to check producer figure for domestic market.also universally accepted films of recent time like pk ,bb has only done so much bussiness at overseas.srk king of manipulation.

  • Yes its true….
Dilwale even with this word of mouth shud cross 180..if protest .not canceled shows..

And many people not come out beacuse of fear …
since last 7.8 Yrs everyone trying to full srk down…
But his stardum is still intact ..BM not masterpice..but haters spread as if BM is new bahubali ..
Dilwale oversese earning clearly showing dat film is not so bad…
But here in india only show cancelation ..and protest made film under performer…
    Other easly cross 200 cr..

    Any way..srk is srk…love u Don..
