From the time Dilwale was announced for Christmas, it was expected to be a battle quite similar to Om Shanti Om vs Saawariya in 2007. The result, every trade pundit agreed, would be the same.
But when the ball was in the only court that mattered, the verdict from the audience was crystal clear. Right from the second day (when we published this article), there were signs that Dilwale was faltering at the box office. Major centres, where the word-of-mouth spreads quicker, weren’t holding up and the momentum had quickly shifted from Dilwale to Bajirao Mastani. More importantly, the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film has held on to it strongly after the first weekend.
Dilwale hasn’t performed badly, far from it. The film is set to be the 4th highest overseas grosser of all time and certain to be Shah Rukh Khan’s highest grossing film, because of a strong US dollar. The problem for the film has been its domestic business, but even here a couple of smaller circuits have performed very well. Bajirao Mastani has dominated the bigger circuits and sustained well for nearly 3 weeks now – not showing any signs of slowing down either.
Worldwide, Dilwale will be SRK’s 2nd highest grosser of all time, only behind Chennai Express in 2013. Clearly, a domestic under-performing film of Shah Rukh Khan is bigger than the biggest hits of a lot of other actors.
An update on #IndicineLBO (lifetime box office prediction): We had predicted on December 21st that Dilwale would collect Rs 145 crore at the box office and Bajirao Mastani would finish with Rs 168 crore. The final business will be well within the 10-15%, making both predictions accurate.

slb comes back with biggest bugeted movie and highly appreciated movie with full support of trade clash with one of the most negative marketed movie of srk and hence succesfully narrowed down the gap of 110 crrs to 50 crrs and announces the victory with elaan aahhh clapping for slb,trade and all salman amir hr akshay fans.

watched Dilwale yesterday for second time and honestly i liked it even more than the first time, HNY was irritating movie but Dilwale is much much better film, the film deserved a solo release like every aamir and salman movie, but BM’s mission was always to prevent Srk from breaking records and their mission was successfull, now people should remember one thing, the BM’s team will suffer a lot in the future due to this, Ajay devgun suffered a lot after his clash against srk and same story will repeat itself, ranvir-deepika-bhansali will give a string of underperformers before tasting success again!

Dillwale was not a great film but neither was Bajirao Mastani a masterpiece as it was made out to be by the media as well as social media. The fact is there has been a lot of negativity for SRK films since Ra.one, 2011. Bad films starring Salman Khan, Aamir Khan and other actors ( Eg. PRDP, Dhoom 3) are not portrayed as negatively in media as similar SRK films ( like HNY, Raone etc.). Bajirao Mastani benefited from the clash as due to the huge negativity against dilwale, there was a false positivity which was spread for it.
Now as sallu bhai and king khan became friends why are we both’s fans fighting. we should be happy when either king khan’s, sallu bhai’s or both’s movies become hit. We should be friends to make both’s movie hit. «Hum eik hai.»

Srk is totally unlucky his potential box office grossers were affected by other releases like RNBDJ, ce, dilwale etc. Amir salman is pure lucky because their good content movies got clear run not even face competition from even small movie leave magnum opus like BM kind of movies. @sht lol you are comparing a 2012 film collection with a 2015 movie. Talaash worldwide collection was 174cr while srk solo Christmas release Don2 was 210cr. Jthj also had festive clash with 211cr and both those movies were not rejected like Ra1 in domestic market.
