From the time Dilwale was announced for Christmas, it was expected to be a battle quite similar to Om Shanti Om vs Saawariya in 2007. The result, every trade pundit agreed, would be the same.
But when the ball was in the only court that mattered, the verdict from the audience was crystal clear. Right from the second day (when we published this article), there were signs that Dilwale was faltering at the box office. Major centres, where the word-of-mouth spreads quicker, weren’t holding up and the momentum had quickly shifted from Dilwale to Bajirao Mastani. More importantly, the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film has held on to it strongly after the first weekend.
Dilwale hasn’t performed badly, far from it. The film is set to be the 4th highest overseas grosser of all time and certain to be Shah Rukh Khan’s highest grossing film, because of a strong US dollar. The problem for the film has been its domestic business, but even here a couple of smaller circuits have performed very well. Bajirao Mastani has dominated the bigger circuits and sustained well for nearly 3 weeks now – not showing any signs of slowing down either.
Worldwide, Dilwale will be SRK’s 2nd highest grosser of all time, only behind Chennai Express in 2013. Clearly, a domestic under-performing film of Shah Rukh Khan is bigger than the biggest hits of a lot of other actors.
An update on #IndicineLBO (lifetime box office prediction): We had predicted on December 21st that Dilwale would collect Rs 145 crore at the box office and Bajirao Mastani would finish with Rs 168 crore. The final business will be well within the 10-15%, making both predictions accurate.

I remember once Indicine said “Bajirao mastani is’nt even a potential competitor to Dilwale,SRK’s real test will be when he clashes with Sultan”.
Trade figures of worldwide collections of BM will easily cross that of Dilwale but due to manipulation producer figures will not cross Dilwale.
Acc. to Boi the gap between worldwide collections of both after 14 days was 34 cr. In third weekend BM collected around 10 cr. more than Dilwale and in further run it should easilly collect 12-15 cr. more means the gap will be reduced by 23 cr. net or around 32 cr. gross.
So it should easilly cross Dilwale if performs better than Dilwale in overseas hereafter.
Lol now SRK fans saying if Dilwale would have released solo then it would have grossed 1000 crs.
Overseas collection simply proved that dilwale isn’t a bad movie. Dilwale is a universal appeal movie but some group took srk as their personal enemy so that the domestic collection is not so impressive. overall we are happy to saw the amazing collection of dilwale at overseas.

Hard to imagine excuses during Rice but definately you guys will find something. You have large experiance in that.
Disappointment for Bollywood.
Last year PK alone collected 700 crs but now 2 films combined collection is lower than PK. BM showed power to SRK. BM performed Extraordinarily but Dilwale Disappointed very Badly.
BM couldn’t affect dilwale, it wasn’t BM but srk comment on intolerance made difference to the story.

Dilwale is a HIT in India and ATBB overseas. I would love to see how SK or AK films will do in a massive clash with political instability, show cancellations and protests affecting it also.
There has always limitation of everything. okay if you are happy to see the domestic collection of dilwale but why you are going to suicide to see the collection of overseas collection.

Loved the line that in couple of circuit Dilwale perform better than BM. From a no potential competitor to lead on bigger circuits is the sign of victory of BM and underperformance. Regarding Dilwale, like saying even srk underperformer are collecting more than any other. Indicine he is doing 1 film per year from last 4 year. All released on festive. Having named and popular director (even with Farah his records is superb before HNY). His competitor Aamir and Salman has reached to 750cr ww and 600cr ww and srk juggling between 300-400cr ww grosser from last 3 year despite being favourable masala Zoner thrice. BM has crossed 300cr despite clash, And you are justifying the underperformance with great success. Dil ko bahlane k liye khyal acha h. Last two srk-kajol film performed poorly in domestic market and perform outstanding in overseas. Srk fans saying Indians fools. Irony.
