Salman Khan leads in every category – highest net collections, success ratio, hit ratio and the best average per film. He also has the highest grosser and the most watched film of the 90s in Sooraj Barjatya’s Hum Aapke Hain Kaun.

Salman and Shah Rukh are the only two actors to average more than 10 crore plus per film.

Most number of films:

  • Aamir Khan – 22%
  • Ajay Devgn – 18%
  • Akshay Kumar - 10%

Note: We haven’t included two prolific actors – Sunny Deol and Govinda – in the list. Deol was a superstar, even though he wasn’t very consistent at the box office. He had quite a few hugely successful films like Border, Darr, Zindi and Ghatak, just to name a few. Govinda delivered several hits with David Dhawan and was one of the most popular and successful actors of the 90s. We are currently in the process of retrieving data from old film magazines. We are also working with a well-known trade analyst to rectify the 90s data, which isn’t as accurate as we’d want it to be at the moment.

  • @Teena why are you Bruning from aamir’s supremacy? Aamir was always the most popular megastar. It’s just that he didn’t do commercial movies back then that’s why he was behind srk and salman. Shut your mouth and get lost idiot woman. Now no one has guts to match aamir. He is ruling like an emperor. He is the biggest megastar of all time.

  • Forget 1990s. Megastar AAMIR Khan is no.1 megastar since 2001 and Biggest star india has ever produced. It was only for short period of time he was behind due to his personal life problems and that’s why he was temporarily behind otherwise he was always biggest megastar. Last decade and this decade he is ruling on top and no.1. No one is close to him.

  • Elaan
    Yeh dillagi
    Mohra
    Main khiladi tu anari
    Suhag
    Sab se bada khiladi
    Main khiladi tu anari
These r clean hits of akshay
So how his hit ratio is only 10percent

  • Sorry I have to disagree here. When it comes to 1990s then srk was clearly on top. You can’t take that away from him. I am not srk fan but a huge admirer of him. Please change this list. Salman had maximum multi starters hits and you are putting him on top? I doubt your credibility.

  • Srk is always there glad to see salman fans so happy i love salman too very much but the fact is when the analyses of of 2nd decade comes king is again on top there so show some guts and admit it that srk is the only actor rulling bollywood since he born

  • My comment – today 12:39 pm -” @ rejan, Border was not a SRK film.in 1997 his movie pardes was released.” Can anyone tell me what’s wrong in above comment .which abusive word I use in above comment that’s why it is not published ? I am only correcting that man.

  • [1990-1999]

    @iamsrk
    Hit Ratio : 37.03%
    Success Ratio : 62.96%

    @BeingSalmanKhan
    Hit Ratio : 33.33%
    Success Ratio : 43.33%

acc to BOI…… srk ahead of salman in 90’s

  • @ Indicine, you should have included Sunny Deol and Govinda…….infact these two were bigger than the Khans till around 1996.

Among these, the first half of 90s belonged to – Sunny, Govinda, Salman, Aamir, Akshay, Ajay and Srk….in that order.

second half of 90s – Srk, Aamir, Salman, Ajay, Sunny, Akshay and Govinda…in that order.

first half of 2000s- Aamir, Srk, Sunny, Akshay, Ajay, Salman and Govinda…..in that order.

second half of 2000s – Aamir, Akshay, Salman, srk, ajay….in that order…

first half of 2010s – Salman, Aamir, srk, Akshay, ajay…..in that order

second half starting 2016s – Salman, Akshay……so far..

    So, if you break up,

Then 1990 to 1995 – Sunny Deol ruled
1995-2000 – srk was doing brilliant
    2000-2005 – aamir was good
    2005-2010 – aamir was awesome
    2010-2015 – salman did great
    2016 so far – salman

Aamir and Salman are topping it, followed by Srk and Akshay.

The most important thing to note here is that of Sanjay Dutt. He was on the verge of superstardom in the early 90s when he got in to the controversy. If that had not happened, i think he might have ruled for the next one decade. So much was his popularity that his Khalnayak was declared a hit before it released. He was the most sought after among all the above.

When one witnessed his fall, there was rise of Srk. If Sanjay had been there in the mid 90s the scenario would have completely changed.

But, then ifs and buts don’t count and what has happened no one can change. All have put in their sincere efforts and the public has given their verdict.

  • According to indicine one who give a big opening at the boxoffice is bigger superstar ….. in case of 90s 80% of akki movies got a bigger opening than
so called indicine superstar that to working with small banners …he changed the course of action of bollywood he gets a unique title “khiladi ” in this era … and gets tag king of action , indian jackie chan
he has given 5 outright clean hits in a single year and 7 success in a single year 1994
he has 11 realease in a single year almost 9 out of this 11 gets bigger opening than indicine superstar he has a rough phase from 1997-1998 ..
From 1999 onward he changed his image completely gets a tag king of comedy ….. from 2011 he again changed himself he showed his verstality ….
but after all this things akki is not a superstar in 1990s
jai ho indicine baba ki …….

  • Most of hits of salman in that period were in second lead saajan sanjay dutt driven film Hahk madhuri jeet sunny deol indicine. Have included kkhh Everybody knows whose film was that Hssh multi hero project Hddcs ajay by this logic even second leads in Amitabh films were bigger

  • 90’s doesn’t matter.
Even govinda And Sunny were Also big stars who are nothing today. You should have add them also…! Where is Saif?

  • Somebody said Akki was not popular in 90’s? If you will check than you will find Akki had the most number of chartbuster songs in 90’s than how he was not popular? He was popular for his khiladi movies. Just because he didn’t had much hits doesn’t mean he was not popular in 90’s. Than how akki Had link ups with most popular actresses of that time like raveena, shilpa? Idiots counting fan following on the basis of hits . Even salman had less hits in 2000 to 2009,but still he was very popular and same goes 2 akshay in 90’s….! Rubbish users

  • And rise of devgan? ? yes he did well in 90’s, but soon from 2000 he became a flop side actor. Even you know did that so please don’t even say that ??rise of ajay? ?

  • @fan pk : Yeah !!! We all know n realized how the bhikari self proclaimed kingship n tricked media & people into ‘I am the King’ illusion !!!!!!!! Now after this article it is like dhoodh ka dhoodh and paani ka paani !!!!!! Very shameful moment for Srkians !!!!!!!

  • From 2000 to 2016 .Akshay has given most no. Of hits and his lifetime collection is huge in that. It’s 21st century and only that’s matter

despite having Very less business in 90’s, now he is fastest to cross 3000 cr. This shows his Success in 21st century…

  • I am laughing reading cmnts especially of one person who is commenting from different names. . Ajay was popular in 90’s. . I mean so what? Even sunny govinda mithun were big stars in 90’s. Wat about 21st century?

Ajay had 9 hits in 90’s and also 9 hits from 2000 to 2016 . This show his rise from 2000 ??

It’s OK if you call him big star in 90’s but in 21st century? Nahh, he is too low level star. FACT

  • Dear all those who are questioning if in 90s srk behind Sallu and how he became king ….or Badsah of bolywwod…so answer is here…

fisrt of all this data is incorrect…..sorry indicine…slowly you will loose many fans by publishing this kind of fake data….

make a analysis .how many hits and flops of the particular year gap than all will know SRK is king for reasons…
…SRK has in every single year 2 hits in his name….for example 1992 Deewana super hit/Raju ban gaya Hit same year in gap of barely 4 months.

1993 Darr BB (yash Raj) and Bazigar (United 7) super hit merely 2 months gap…here he became heartthrob of nation leaving Sallu and Amir behind..they have one or two release each and badly flopped or avg.

1994 kabhi ha kabhi na hit/Anjaam avg…..gap of 3 months…he established as big star.in same year HUM AAPKE release but SRK already established as super star that time HUM AAPKE considered more Madhuri starer and do not foreget 1942 love story also release same year ANIL Kapoor Manish koirala…it was BB too…so SRK has 2 hits already under his cap in same yer before HUM APPKE or 1942 love story…

1995 karan arjun where he over shadow bhaijan and success went to SRK but i will not count as SRK starer but off course it is in his list of BB now same year DDLJ with debut director and ppl started debate DDLJ v.s HUM AAPKE many youngsters voted DDLJ once again he over shadow bhaijan established as more than super star..this all happening same year…same year Amir gave Rangeela and expected award for it…how fool he his…rest all know he started boycotting award or more correct way you say surrender to SRK stardom.

sallu was busy with crap flops in same year…

1996…here srk have very dull period but nobody care overlooked as Ramjaane was avg and last release of 1995..
where the same year 1996 Tingu khan gave unofficially remake (check wiki) of jab jab phool khile Raja Hindustani..in true sense worst movie if the that year but nadeem sharavan music and Karisma kapoor staller perfomance worked big time…

1997 he again came with top form pardes hit/koyla avg/yes boss above avg….so his stardom intact..whereas end of the year Dil to pagal hai 1997 became ANTHEM of the nation and grip entire 1997/98 and became super hit…he became king….

1998 again he gave Kuch kuch hota hai…with debut director means All time block buster…next release was REST YOU ALL KNOW….DHARMA MADE BY SRK OR SRK MADE DHARMA…

1999 Badsha which avg movie but ppl gave him title badsha of bollywood….or some media call him KING KHAN….

now my question to all haters even indicine…..you just put up the total box office collections where may be you count trimurthi flop movie as SRK starer or Army which is not and its affect the avg..please remove and see the diffidence or kuch kuch hota hai count as Sallu movie…isnt it injustify with SRK????? in that case you should include DIL TO PAGAL hai as akshay list too…LOL…he as 15 minutes cameo with one title song…why not???

finally do whatever calculations you want in true sense gap of the two movies count the most….KING SRK has minimum gaps inbetween two movies which still on… if sallu gap is concerned he gave more flops in the same year than bigger hits…Amir gap is widen in each releases…after 2000 Amir committed to one movie in the year…thats the reason KING KHAN is KING KHAN….consistency..count not numbers….in 1990 to 2010 they dont have dare to come close to SRK….even today if Sallu give one flop he will loose his stardom as quickly as possible…AMIR already fanless star…his movie work due to Brand or story or lot of other factors he depend in others …even Indicine accepted this he never raise more than a star..

  • So salman shahrukh are on top while Amir is 3..how ajay is ahead then amir? Amir’s average and hit ratios is better than ajay..? Than how ajay on 3 ? Amir haters
If only Collection matters than Akshay should be on no. 1 in 2000 to 2009 ? Isn’t it guys? Tell me anybody how ajay is on 3 ..

  • All lallutards barked a lot and supported their boxofficeIndia.com a lot,but see it’s the same box-officeIndia.com is saying KING KHAN IS THE NO.1 ACTOR+MEGASTAR OF 90’S+LAST DECADE.

    http://www.boxofficeindia.com/hit-down-actor.php?txtYearlyData=1990-1999

    http://www.boxofficeindia.com/hit-down-actor.php?txtYearlyData=2000-2009

See KING KHAN IS NO.1 MEGASTAR ACCORDING BoxOfficeIndia.Com both IN 1991-1999(WHOLE 90’S) AND also IN 2000-2009(LAST DECADE TOO).

    90’S(1991-2000)—-NO.1 IS KING KHAN

    LAST DECADE(2000-2009)—-NO.1 IS KING KHAN

And THIS DECADE’S HIGHEST SUCCESS RATIO—-NO.1 IS KING KHAN

SO MEGASTAR KING OF BOLLYWOOD RULES FOREVER.

  • You stupid moron @ANK

HOW akshay was not in top 3 in 2000 to 2009 ?

What is parameter to decide who is in top 3 ? Amir is in top 3 in 90s too.. beta if total collection is your parameter than Akshay is on no.1 from 2000 to 2009 . Get lose you stupid Dog.

Calling ajay on 3 just because of more collection. Wat about average and hit ratio?

From your criteria akshay should be no.1 from 2000 to 2009 and you really saying he was not in top 3 ?? Jealous soul

  • In one of the indicine article I was the first1 to comment that akshay is below ajay sir in 90s thus proved…ajay sir is alwayzzz ahead of akshay

  • @sss, @xzone etc
Dear SRKIans pls dont get deceived by this article
They have included KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI in Salman’s filmography
    Else SRK will be ahead

  • @Tiger-The real king, @hritik, @sss, @xzone
Read carefully Mr. Anand the original
SRK has been way consistent than Salman in 90s.More so as Kuch Kuch Hota hai is not Salmans film and SRK made debut two years later only
IN DOMESTIC BOX OFFICE AND OVERSEAS BOX OFFICE
The year 1992: SRK’s Deewana was the 2nd biggest hit of the year after Anil Kapoor’s Beta and ahead of all Salman Khan;s movies that year. All Salmans movies flopped at the box office.

The year 1993: SRK altered the rule of game arising as the most promising newcomer. With Darr and Baazigar he was then just behind seniors like Sanjay Dutt and Govinda. Clearly, SRK won Salman this year too

The year 1994: Salman gave the biggest hit of all time Hum Aapke Hai kaun. Salman was the clear winner, however SRK was consistent with the classic Kabhie Haan Kabhie Naa

The year 1995: King Khan altered the rule of games capturing the top two spots in DDLJ and Karan Arjun(which costarred Salman Khan). In overseas market, the phenomena called SRK begun.

The year 1996: Nightmare for SRK as all his four films underperformed. Salman’s Jeet was the 2nd bigghest hit after Raja Hindustani. Saman’s Khamosi was the biggest hit overseas. Salman was a clear winner

The year 1997: Though Boarder was the biggest hit domestically, in Khan war, it was SRK all the way with three hits in : Dil To Pagal Hai(blockbuster, 2crore+ footfalls) and Pardesh(first film to do well in America) and Yes Boss(an above average grosser)

The year 1998: SRK was at the top with Kuch Kuch Hota hai where Salman had a cameo. SRK’s Dil Se flopped, despite being a classic, just like Salman,s Love, Andaaz apna apna and Khamosi had. Salman had four success in Pyar kiya to darna kya, Bandhan, Jab Pyar Kisise Hota hai. Srk was however ahead

The year 1999: Salman captured all the three top spots with HSSH, Biwi no. 1 and HDDS.

SRK had three all time day1 opener vitz Kaaran Arju, Trimurti and Koyla. Salman had KA and Biwi no. 1

  • @xzone, @sss, @challa
@Indicine, Try to bring SRK down as much as u can including KKHH in Salman’s filmography just bcoj he won a private saleable award, but u cant change these facts
