Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara directed by Zoya Akhtar releases tomorrow and the film has a huge starcast. Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif are two of the most popular actors in the industry and their presence should give the films box office collections a huge boost. Apart from Hrithik and Kat, the film also stars Farhan Akhtar, Abhay Deol and Kalki Koechlin.
Much like Delhi Belly, ZNMD is targeted at the youth and the urban audience. The film is expected to open well in cities and then grow on word-of-mouth.
The opening though might not be spectacular due to several reasons
- There is no ‘big film’ buzz around Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and the promos haven’t been the talking point either.
- Delhi Belly is still strong in cities and Murder 2 is unlikely to be replaced at single screens. Also, the last part in the Harry Potter series of films is scheduled to hit screens tomorrow (i.e if the producers and multiplex owners can settle their dispute on time). In bigger cities, going by the advance booking, Harry Potter is unfortunately the first choice.
- Next week, Singham is scheduled for release and it should affect the collections of Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara.
While things don’t look too rosy, Zoya Akhtar and the ZNMD team is quietly confident. If the content is good, the competition simply does not matter.
Coming to the point.. below are our prediction for Hrithik Roshan’s first and only release of 2011
Excel Film’s Zindagi na milegi dobara has a huge cast comprising Hrithik Roshan,Katrina Kaif,Farhan Akthar,Abhay Deol etc. The movie has a very urbane feel to it and is expected to do really well in the high end properties but it remains to be seen if the movie can go really mainstream and justify its costs.

- Weekdays – 12 crores
- Week 1 Total – 39 crores
- Final – 65 crores+

- Weekdays – 10 crores
- Week 1 Total – 35 crores
- Final – 50 crores+
IF BAD (negative word-of-mouth)
- Weekend – 22 crores
- Weekdays – 8 crores
- Week 1 Total – 30 crores
- Final – less than 40 crores
After two disasters in Kites and Guzaarish. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is an important film for Hrithik, make no mistake about that.

Indicine Team: Do you think ZNMD will be a cult? I hear a lot about that!
Well i don’t think it will be because it is too much in the DCH mould. A film has a shot at being cult when it is different in its context and has hardly any reference in any other earlier film.
On the other hand Delhi belly i think is cult classic. Because it’s something new for indian cinema.
The main problem of this film is the cast of Hrithik Roshan.
HR definitely doesnt look an ordinary fun loving guy..his physique is like a super hero..warrior..king etc..
Amir played role of college kid in DCH convincingly because his body structure still make him look like a college student. HR etc cannot even play that role in this age when they are even younger than Amir.
You had developed your body like Casanova, you looks extra ordinary even in still pic and then u want to prove your self a actor by playing ordinary guys.
Whenever he will play role suits to his frame , his movie will work. else he has to change his looks, his physique. Play King, extra ordinary fighter, super hero, he will succeed. But an ordinary guy, he is not convincing at all.
Even i have not liked the jokes..They do fall flat for me as well..Doordarshan sequence is totally annoying me…And when HR says “please shut up yar to farhan”… god in our flat we act more dramatic with my flatemates with more expressions…HR looks expression less and really looks artificial in cracking buddy jokes…His comedy timing does not convince me at all..I think DCH was MAGIC when we talk about buddy joke timings…i mean

DCH was unique nothing could touch it, but still ZNMD was not a bad effort, it had its moments too.

Aditya, to be frank, don’t really understand what cult exactly means. If it means a different, path breaking film. Then ZNMD is certainly not! It has a Dil Chahta Hai look and feel.. And Zoya would be lying if she denied that she was inspired by her brothers film. Nothing wrong in being inspired though. Hundreds of directors in India hold DCH as an inspiration.
Delhi Belly though was definitely a path breaking film. Something that Hindi audience haven’t seen before. Hollywood folks have been churning out such films for decades though :)
Sawssen, whether we agree or not we love to read every opinion. :) Don’t agree that Hrithik doesn’t suit the role of a normal guy.. Honestly, two of his best performances are in Lakshya, Koi Mil Gaya, Fiza and Mission Kashmir. And in all these films he was a normal guy.
About those dialogues, the way you have put it it really sounds dumb. But in the film it worked quite well, Farhan was excellent with his dialogue delivery and his was the best role.

Indicine Team, thank you for replying. Yes it was just my opinion and didn’t expect from you to agree.
But this is what i feel about Hrithik, it wasn’t to put him down, he’s a good actor no doubt.
It’s just that i don’t find him convincing in such roles, his phisics does not suit them. And about the performances you mentionned above the only one i think he was exellent and so natural and convincing it was in Fiza, i liked it even more than KMG. In lakshya his performance in the part(30 min) was poor in my opinion, but after that he did very well in the other scenes, it was one of his best performances also.
Also in those films he wasn’t exactly a college guy right?, Also another film i liked him in was KNPH he was so natural and charming esp for a newcomer. In KMG, i just didn’t like that performance i found it a bit exagerrated and overacted(same with Guzaarish) and don’t agree with those who say it’s his best, i think his best was Fiza.
Every actor has his own strenght, SRK for exapmle, no one can beat him in romantic roles and no one can emote them the way he does.
Aamir is the best actor in Bollywood to play college guy to the perfection, from QSQT, Dil, JJWS, DCH, RDB and even after 20 years in 3 Idiots he was convincing as a college boy.
As for Hrithik he’s the best to play roles like in Dhoom 2, Krrish…no other actor can do justice to them more than him, that’s why i’m not excited about SRK’s Ra.One.

A large part of d investment is alread recoverd before release of ZNMD as its rights r sold at decent rates.
On friday collections were in d region of 7-8 Crores..it will increase on saturday n sunday coz reports of d movie r very positive..n Exhibitors hav confirmd aftr luking at advance dat it is a hit..According to Trade pandits ZNMD has a run of atleast 4 weeks..
Ya..HP will affect ZNMD to an extent but aftr monday as all shows r xpcted to b housefull for both d movies..N no mattr who s in opposition if ur product is good..
So,whoever is making ZNMD flop they have to keep patience for few days..Its a profitable venture..Movie is good average rating is 3.5 stars…

It’s just that I’m the biggest fan of Harry Potter and would prefer it over any movie even if it’s the movie of my fav star. I didn’t watch the film so can’t comment about it, but if it’s good i wish it works at Box Office and wish Hrithik all the best.

ZNMD is not a mass appeling movie like Ready was..Inspite of releasing wid HP,It will b a hit and will earn distributors and xhibitors..bcoz ita a good product wid diffrent storyline..Friday’s collections of ZNMD were 3 crs more than HP…So, Hrithik-Katrina pair has done their job at d box office..
