Q. With all the hype around Youtube views, does it really make a big different at the box office? As we mostly see that trailers of Ajay Devgn movies dont get too many views on Youtube but are huge successes at the box office? – Veer Joshi
A. Youtube views does help generate buzz on social media websites and the ‘views’ / ‘likes’ records also keeps the film in news. But its pretty obvious from the Top 10 most viewed trailers of all time, that the list is dominated by the top actors in the industry. Krrish 3 with 22 million views featured Hrithik Roshan in the lead, with Rakesh Roshan as its director. Dhoom 3, Jab Tak Hai Jaan and now Kick were Aamir, SRK and Salman starrers. The lead actors, director, banner generate the views on Youtube.
If a trailer is highly ‘liked’, it goes viral on the internet and also goes on the homepage of Youtube, which helps it garner even more views.
At the end of the day, it all boils down to the content. If a trailer is good, the viewer might instantly decide to watch the film in theatre. On the other hand, if he / she doesn’t like it, it does count as a view on Youtube, but doesn’t convert into a ticket sold at the box office.

Youtube views are helpful in creating more buzz. .. For gud BO, there are several factors like music,no. of holidays,content,stardom,wom . . Gud music,Good poster,good trailer always create buzz. Higher is the buzz,higher will be collection.
You tube views doesn’t bring much effect, but still, it wud brings some effect.

Ajay devgn moves don’t have many views on YouTube, but yes I noticed all his last 4 movies were able to make good opening with double digit..even on non holidays or even with very negative wOM. I think it depends on movie marketing or hype around the movie. YRF or karan johr film have have good YouTube viewing even with young stars. It all depend on marketing…Hate story 2 have more than 900k views. So it’s not necessary that all big stars movies have high number of untube views, it mainly depends on hype around the movie. Yah, but if big star such as Ajay devgn can manage double digit opening with low YouTube view then it means he or any big star with high YouTube viewer assure very big opening on box office. To me Ranbir, Akshay, ajay and hrithic , has similar papularity. Ranbir, Amir and hrithic are lucky that they got extremely hyped and good movie, otherwise their papularity is same as Akshay ans Ajay.

Movie was hugely appreciated from acrooss the borders and had many re-runs in usa and pakistan. Movie over the time has got a cult classic status. Undoubtedly, his best work. Crook(emraan,neha) — bad story,screenplay and bad direction. Was critical and commercial failure . Suri’s worst work. Had chartbuster songs though. Collected 18 cr at bo. Murder 2 (2011)(emraan hashmi,jackline) — opened to thunderous response at bo. Released on about 1100 screens . Collected around 55 cr at bo. Faced stiff competion with singham,chillar party at bo. Got the best work out of the leads. Was declared a blockbuster at bo. Had good songs too. Ashiqui 2 (2013)(aditya,shradha kapoor) got good response from audience after getting -ve reviews. Music helped the film. Collected 75 cr at bo and declred blockbuster.
Youtube makes not much difference. K3 had 71 thousand likes but could not cross even YJHD. Its lifetime was 180 crore.
Same will happen with Kick, many youtube likes and vies but poor box office.

They put Krrish 3 in 150 crore+ list
While in 200 cr club list only CE and 3 Idiots was mentioned. D3 was in 250 cr club.
So Hr fans, noone considers K3 crossed 200 crore except Roshans and a few worthless trade analysts.

I have my own opinion. I can analyze by myself. And hence by my analysis,i feel k3 did 244 crores. I have given lengthy comments in many other articles to clarify why k3 did 244 crores. Now i am not interested in replying to brainless blind haters like romance ridiculous or loki loser.
WHY
Here u people see. I copied some comments.
The fact is no one can be trusted, and believed to be 100 accurate. No one can know the accurate figure for such huge releases like Krrish 3m CE, ETT, etc apart from the producer.
I still don’t know why some people are treat BOI as the mecca of Bollywood websites. I don’t think that BOI is certified from Indian govt. It’s just one of the other 100 websites. It has been criticized by many people, it doesn’t even track down every single screen in the country, they also use to average out different screens which can’t be accurate for such a wide release. The truth is only producers can know the exact figure. We don’t know if they manipulate it or not. There could some manipulation in the figure, but it’s also hard to trust the figures shown by BOI, too.
For example; RA.One released in 2011 with similar hype, but in lesser amount of screens. According to BOI, it collected around 14.5 crore on Diwali from Hindi version, and over 18 crore including regional versions across the country which was a record for Diwali day. And now, they are showing 15 crores from Hindi version for Krrish 3. How can it be so low after 2 years with increase in considerable amount of screens, and ticket prices? According to them, it only collected 0.50 crore more than 2011?s Diwali release. Isn’t that doubtful, too? Moreover, Krrish 3 was released on over 4000 screens across the country, 15-18 crore does not even equal to 43% occupancy for such a hyped and anticipated movie which is highly questionable.
BOI was once used to be the most trusted site regarding box office collections, mainly until couple of years ago or 2010. So, majority of people used to trust BOI because lack of other sources. But, time has changed, there are many other sources emerged who can also track box office collections (even Indicine have their own trackers now), which resulted in gaps between BOI figures and other trade analyst’s figures mainly since big releases like JTHJ, SOS, Singham, YJHD, ETT, and CE, as a result BOI was hardly getting any attention, now the difference is huge in case of Krrish 3, so as Indicine said, it could also be a major publicity attention by BOI, or anything else, but it is certainly getting high attention now. Producers might also manipulate the figures, but for whatever reason, BOI is also showing really low figures logically.
Lets face it, we ourselves, predicted it to collect around 25 cores on it’s opening day, don’t lie to yourself. I always predicted it’s weekend collections to be around 65 crore from all versions in India.
Some people are saying Roshans paid to trade analysts and various sites etc. Almost all the sites are showing closer to producers figure except BOI. My question to them, then why they couldn’t pay BOI too if they did pay trade analysts, variou sites, magazines, newspapers, etc.? Similar thing could be said for BOI, too, that someone paid BOI to show relatively less numbers. BOI isn’t an official Bollywood site, and isn’t certified. After all, it’s easier to pay only one site rather than other 15 people.
I’d also like to write the same thing as Indicine wrote at last that, “Finally a word of advice. Take your pick and trust the source that you think is most reliable. But stick to ONE source, don’t change it according to your convenience or liking towards your favourite star!”
In my opinion, there could be some manipulation in the official figures (everyone does that), but it doesn’t mean that BOI is showing exactly accurate figure, either. I do agree with some comments here that there should be an official and common source to track down the actual box office collections, or some kind of rule that producers can only show the exact figures.

Boi has mentioned “nett” word and Roshans have not mentioned “nett” so obvious common sense tells which is the correct figure.

Krrish 3 had a huge 40-50% Fall on 2nd day at most centres.
While Ram Leela had an increase of 7% from Day 1.
Also ticket prices of K3 and Ramleela were similar. So Ram Leela had bigger 2nd day than K3.
BOI always has lesser figures than producers. If Roshans were honest then at max K3 collections would have been 195 crore. 244 crore is too much manipulation.
Aamir’s Talaash trailer was trending on YouTube but the film struggled to even get past 90 crores at box office. So yeah YT views mean nothing. :D
@loki:haha even with 40% drops, 15.5 crores is not possible. .even indicine has predicted 19 crores . But 15.5 crores is very small and cnt be acceptable as it released on large no. Of screens. With even 50% occupancy, 20 crores is possible on 4100-4200 screens. .but 15.5 crores? ! It has been shamelessly underreported.and another thing is dat ramleela’s weekend figure is higher than dat of k3 in boi figure which is again questionable.
