Which films are the Top 5 highest grossers of January?

Q: Which are the Top 5 highest grossing movies for January month (all-time) and verdict of movie? January has not always been good for movie – Aaditya

A: The first week of January was considered to be unlucky for film releases, but that has changed after the release of No One Killed Jessica. Having said that, films that released in the last week of December (Ghajini, 3 Idiots, Don 2, Dabangg 2 for example) have done well in the first week of January.

The ‘Republic Day’ weekend has been fairly good for the industry in the last couple of years. Agneepath is the highest grosser in the month of January, followed by Jai Ho, Race 2, Yamla Pagla Deewana and Rang De Basanti — all films released during the ‘Republic Day’ weekend except Yamla Pagla Deewana (14 Jan 2011).

Top 5 Highest Grossers in January

  • Agneepath (2012) – 122 crore – Super Hit
  • Jai Ho (2014) – 112 crore – Above Average
  • Race 2 (2013) – 98 crore – Hit
  • Yamla Pagla Deewana (2011) – 56 crore – Hit
  • Rang De Basanti (2006) – 55 crore – Hit

    Rest all films r hit.
    Bechara lallu,sorry sallu.
Kick won’t cross jai ho also.
    Sallu’s honeymoon period is over.

  • Rang de basanti was a gud film but nothing in front of lootera.
I cry like anything while watching lootera everyday.
Everyday i wake up,watch lootera and sleep.

  • Problem with January is only that some big films release during Xmas, new year…and the public does’nt come in that huge numbers to watch a film next month only…

  • Yes every producer wants his film to just cross over the line..
Btw kudos to producers of SINGHAM who i think declared 99crs as its collections!!!

  • @arjun kapoor
Well,i hope your prediction hits bull’s eye…but as far as i think, holiday opening will be below expectations…
    Holiday prediction:
    Opening:15crs

  • When Agneepath released on 26th Jan 2012 Republic Day was on Thursday but Jai Ho released on Friday (24th Jan 2014) and Republic Day fell on Sunday !!!!!! Hrithik did good job in Agneepath so was Salman but the difference between 2 movies was Director, item song and Sanjay Dutt’s look !!!!!!!

  • Even Salman’s under performing movie does much more business than other stars big budgeted hyped films.

  • Coz of this our king does not releases his movies on january and releases on whichever month like october or november in which Diwali comes

  • @Dynamic : every time Salman’s haters or critics wrote him off he has come back strongly. Wait till Eid you will get the answer. Haters like you have been saying same things about Salman since last 20 years but nothing affects him !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Agnepath that released in almost half the screens of jai ho n almost half the ticket price. Jai ho had higher ticket price than ce. Yes you heard it right. The news about salman decreasing the ticket price was cleverly portrayed actually the ticket price was less than dhoom 3 not ce. It was higher than ce as the multiplex where I watched ce, jai ho’s ticket was at all shows was 10 rs higher.

  • Oh great job indicine for secretly knowing that producers of race2 and grand masti lied that their respective films touched 100cr.by the way werent u the same website who posted grnd masti 100cr success bash

  • No,I m toking about the list of 100cr films where u have included both race2 and grand masti

  • @hrithik
Jai ho’s whole cast except salman and tabbu sucked!!!
While agneepath had great performances from HR,Rishi kapoor nd sanjay dutt.
Everytime in whole mumbai there were only 3 policemen..
Only mahesh manjrekar was the auto driver left in mumbai…these small things made it poor, daisy shah’s long intro dance sequence sucked, otherwise it was an ok film.
Also agneepath collected 122crs 2 years ago,on half no. of screens as Jai ho.

  • Koimoi says Race 2 collected 102 cre nett with a Semi Hit verdict..and have featured it in their list of 100 crore club..same applies to Singham for which they say has collected 100 crs..wonder whom to believe!!! :/

Also RDB was a Super Hit in 2006..it was the first film in Multiplex era to complete 50 days..also when multiplex came up in Mangalore, it was in its 6th week..we had a special screening from our college at Adlabs then for 50rupees..i would differ on you about RDB’s verdict..!!!
