  • If we go through the below ratings on the various facets, Veer at least deserves 3.5 stars.

    Story/Screenplay/Dialogues: 5/10
    Performance: 8/10
    Music: 7/10
    Action/Drama/Comedy: 7/10
    Cinematography: 8/10

Story/ Screenplay/ Dialogues: Story could have been better. It doesn’t look real/ Screenplay was good but was not first-rate. Dialogues especially delivered by Salman were mind blowing.

Performance: Salman and Mithunda were brilliant, but not got the support from the rest of the cast. Zarine and Jackie shroff were average. Sohail should quit acting .He irritates in some of the scenes.

Music: It was an above average score. Surili ankhiyoun wale and Salaam aaya are melodious and are easy on ears. Kanha especially the chorus wants you asking for more, Taali lacks the punch and Meherbaniyan is just an average. The album is deficient with a super hit number.

Action/Drama: Action was the high point of the film. Tailor made scenes and well performed stunts, hats off to Salman khan for his bravery acts. The one thing which was lacking is Drama. Comedy was just about OK; indeed it was not required.

Cinematography: You cannot take your eyes off. Splendid job.

The high point if the film is one and only Salman Khan. Go watch it only for Salman Khan. Don’t miss it.

    Overall: 3.5 stars

  • THE LAST TWO COMMENTS ARE AN ABSOLUTE SPAM… no relevance .just mindless praise.. they must tell what at all did they like in this baigan ka bhrta ..rather the worst movie of the year so far

  • Indicine Team plz go through this Box Office Report (Review) of Veer prepared by “ibosnetwork.com”

“Many times what is billed as most-anticipated in trade and media circles does not turn out to be the case with the Indian public at the ground level. More proof of that comes this week as Veer which was billed as one of the most highly anticipated films of 2010 in trade and media circles just days ago has failed to take even a respectable initial. The anticipation was more in the media than amongst the public as Veer’s opening seems to be around 20-25%.

By missing the opening, Veer, written by Salman Khan himself, and billed as the actor’s attempt at transforming himself into an epic action hero like Brad Pitt and Mel Gibson has likely missed the boat at the actual box office of India. The advance booking and opening reports of Veer are extremely poor in multiplexes and below average in single screens so far (even UP/MP where its not dismal is below expectation given film’s budget and genre). So the combined opening is set to range from below average to dismal. Bombay multiplexes have been given high volume allocations in expectation of a huge response, but initial results show they are booked at a rate of around only 15%, on par with Mr. and Mrs. Khanna. In Calcutta the bookings are outright dismal, to the tune of 5%. Some theaters have a booking of 33 for Friday for this Salman Khan starrer, not 33% but 33 tickets total for the day! It is looking above for help unless the opening weekend word of mouth proves much better than what the box office bookings so far have indicated.”

    Is it true????????????

  • okay guys s here i was watching NDTV PROFIT -COMMERCIAL CINEMA features show that VEER is a big disaster ….movie made for 47 crores has grossed only 12 crores so far in its opening last week and its giong to be a huge blow for salman..anyway for me its not a surprise bcos i predicted this movie will be a himalayan disaster 2 montjhs back itself….and movie makers pls diont try to imitate western movies like troy whis is a masterpiece…pls dont!!!!

  • My review for this movie is that it was the best movie i have seen in the past 10 years.
The indian cinima has been making useless/pointless movies for the past ten years and
this is the point where they finally made an amazing movie.
The story of this movie is the strongest point of the movie and I think salman khan has
shown his entire tallent. Salman khan is a true talent which he shows once in a while and
when he does show his talent everyone critisizes it before anything else.
I give Veer’s story 10/10 and the performance of each and every single actor and actress of this movie a 10/10.
Every part of this movie was brilliant and I would appreciate it if the industry makes more of these kind of movies.
And also hope that this doesn’t happen that because of the results and bad reviews of veer, talented people will stop writing these brilliant stories which many lack to appreciate still.
In the end I believe that this movie was overall way better then other movies that get the title of being called hits and VEER should be awarded.

  • Sonia
it is tooo late dear. i was waiting for your review.
after read your, i realize my mistake and now imgoing to watch veer again just for you.

  • veer is been directed by ANIL SHARMA who made gadar and ab tumhare hawale watan saathiyon in 2002…..the same critics pointlessly degraded him and after a long time he has produced veer….if it was made by the fool called ashutosh gowariker ppl would love to give 5/5 rating…wat a disparity..anil is a great director but in veer there was no use to inculcate scenes and the exact costumes in movie TROY…

VEER DESERVES TO GET OSCAR THIS TIME….

SALMAN ROCKS…….Taran Adarsh going to be trashed after giving 4 and 3.5 stars to Ishqiya and Rann.

  • already when the actor [salman] has confessed to the media i watched in ZOOM TV yesterday that veer couldnt impress the audience and heavy loss occired to disrtibuters in india how you can say it has collected 41 crores??????????maybe the movie is made for 80 crores haaaa!!!!

  • While some preposterous claims and figures are being advanced by associated groups in the trademedia about Veer having scored huge in various hard to seen ‘interior’ places, fact of the matter is the only likely havoc being created by this Salman Khan starrer’s performance at the box office is the panic amidst the distributors who have to be shocked looking at the actual crowds and collections across India. Veer on Friday opened dismally (multiplexes) to average (single screens). How dismally has been reported already and can be verified by anyone visiting a multiplex nearby or calling/visiting a Chandan Cinema in Mumbai, a single screener, or an Alka cinema in Chindwara, MP to see what the percentage of occupancies actually are. As it so happened, even the single screens did not open well universally but rather in select pockets on Friday and there too the collections dropped by Monday, meaning just about everywhere the film is on its way out. Even Tuesday’s, the Indian Republic Day holiday, which gave even duds like Salaam-E-Ishq a boost in 2007, couldn’t save it.

Overseas in USA, though Bollywood producer Eros (also distributing overseas) has claimed for a moderate $334k opening off 92 screens, Veer is said to have collected only about half that ie $171k according to independent American tracking. In fact, Anil Sharma’s Gadar, with its anti-Pakistan theme did not do great overseas either. But that film created records in India with genuine intensity if not epic budget, whereas Veer’s general anti-western thrust is seen out of synch (western movies like Avatar and 2012 are doing great in India even interiors in dubbed versions), and the action attempting to be Troy/Gladiator seen as visually underwhelming by bulk of Indian public. So the film has lost on account of both, lack of legitimate emotional charge, as well as lack of visually spectacular action.

While actor Salman Khan tried to rally his fans to go to the theaters regardless of reviews or word of mouth, collections instead dropped from 20-25% opening on Friday to about 9-10% by Monday at most of the decisive stations. The film can not even be safely termed a Lal Badshah or a Maa Tujhe Salaam, two flop films elsewhere which fared reasonably well in the northern interiors single screens.

But regardless of what is being said either way right now, in the end this Salman Khan-as-Brad Pitt fare will be out fast enough from the theaters to render any further box office discussion on it irrelevant by itself.

Meanwhile, the advance for Ram Gopal Varma’s Amitabh Bachchan-Ritesh Deshmukh starrer Rann and Naseruddin Shah-Arshad Warsi-Vidya Balan Ishqiya opened in some theaters and not surprisingly, neither film has taken a bumper advance so far. Rann is a media film and Ishqiya an esotric, rustic fare. Ram Gopal Varma’s topic selections and dark & grim cameralightings are generally not conducive to huge openings (exception being the Bombay opening recordbreaker starring Bachchan, Sarkar I). While Ishqiya director Abhishek Chaubey is yet unproven as director and cast generally considered art-filmish (except for Vidya Balan). However it should be pointed out no big film in last several months in India has taken a conventional bumper advance, be it All the Best, Paa, or even 3 Idiots which is sitting on a collection goldmine right now in the end. If the films aren’t captivating enough, as Veer is showing (and Kurbaan showed earlier), no amount of trade hype, banner backing or publicity can save or even open a film. However if the content is novel and captivating, with the way public word of mouth can spread quickly over net and over mobile sms these days, and given the massive collection capacity at multiplexes which cater to the Rs. 300/ticket crowds, if the films are captivating enough, they can put up massive collections in a hurry. Incidentally, Abhishek Chaubey is the writer of Kaminey and Omkara.

Regardless, after this coming week, the next release coming onboard will be Striker starring Siddharth of Rang De Basanti fame on Feb 5.

  • Hindi Film Review

    By Subhash K Jha

    Veer

Starring Mithun Chakraborty, Salman Khan, Sohail Khan, Purru Raj Kumar,Introducing Zarine Khan

    Directed by Anil Sharma

    Rating: * ½

Veer is one of those intended epics that goes wrong. Horribly wrong. Director Anil Sharma had combined history and kitsch with compelling consequences on Gadar Ek Prem Katha.

In Veer the khichdi of fact and fiction runs amok, creating a blend of babble and bloodshed that is more hysterical than historical.

Veer wallows in primitive valour. Father Mithun Chakraborty(the only tolerable performance in the litany of the unbearable) and son Salman Khan often mock-fight, as the burly members of their tribe urge them on like animals in zestful zoo. Even Neena Gupta who plays Mithun’s wife(and has apparently forgotten she was once a good actress) joins in the macho revelery , taking a swig or two from the men’s smoking room where Veer is situated, in a manner of speaking.

There are no smoking guns. Only shining swords slicing across the epic canvas with fashionable bravura.

Costume dramas are very tricky cinematic efforts. How do the makers know if the clothes and props 0.
suggesting periodicity are going to work? In this case, they just don’t! The ‘research’that seems to have gone into the colossal fiasco is at best, scratch level. At worst the detailing suggested by the art director(Sanjay Dhabade) and costumes(Anna Singh) smack of amateurish stage plays where the actors create characters purely through props.

And here the props include , ahem ahem, the Buckingham Palace where our valorous hero Veer(Salman Khan) and his brother-sidekick(Sohail Khan, behaving as though he was in the sequel to Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya) teach those bloody Gora Log a few lessons on how to treat us Indians with respect and dignity.

By jove, what would Independent India have been without such strident architects of freedom? It is doubtful that a man like Veer actually existed in the history of our freedom movement. But does anyone really care?

Veer is not really a freedom fighter. He’s Salman Khan with long hair and costume jewellery(the diamond ear-tops could be the envy of all his leading ladies) scowling with the same intensity into the panoramic camera as he did earlier in Wanted. British India or Fetish India, what difference does it make?

Clothes definitely maketh this man, although Veer in one of the unintentionally funny sequences of the film reprimands the gora professor in London(teaching the most motley crew of colonists seen in any film) saying, “Clothes do not make the man,the man makes the clothes.” A quote on the coat that Veer says he borrowed from George Bernard Shaw.

Where did he learn about Shaw? In his tribal pathshaala? Do such questions really matter when the intention is to create an optical illusion merging myth and history in a claustrophobic clasp that leaves no breathing space for introspective punctuations.

Veer is one sweeping rush of blood sweat gore adrenaline and saliva . It is meant to sweep audiences off its collective feet .But its takeoff point , namely the ideological slant, is so faulty, you wonder what these blood-thirsty warriors are fighting for!

Most of the time the characters’ motivations are superimposed by a passionate but pedestrian melodrama.

Director Anil Sharma’s inherent sense of drama comes with the blood-soaked territory. While in the father-son sequences he manages to create a scale and range that merge rugged machismo with a junkfood version of patriotism, the love story featuring the nomadic warrior and the bereft princess from the enemy tribe is driven into a zero-chemistry zone by the pair.

Forget mutual passion, there’s very little drama or romance in the dialogues and the visual props for them to share.

Veer gets details of the period and locations in place. But the inner conviction and a genuine passion that made Anil Sharma’s Gadar: Ek Prem Katha so special are completely absent in the telling of a tale that culminates with the father and son, warriors of an indeterminate patriotic tribe fighting one another for land, country and other causes which by the last blood-soaked reel, are as relevant to the audience as the question, why make a film during British India when the hero insists on behaving as though he belongs to today?

    Dude, you’ve got attitude.

  • thanks MEGHA for the tremendous hardwork you have taken more than any critics in the world……..you have made good points.pls dont try to praise my name is khan anyway!!!!!!

  • I agree with Megha. The film’s script is not good, even direction is poor.

Dear, this is the chrisma of Salman Khan who made Veer bigger.

  • I have a BIG questions for the wanna be Critics.. above.. !!! You all are those who has always lost in life coz of criticism towards achievers.. !!! Grow up you losers…!!
I also have a question for you all : Do you all view a movie and review it as the critics review it…?? Damn sorry for you all then.. Have your own opinion and take an entertainment as a entertainment, don’t try to act as a king when ur a mare beggar…
Movie lovers are those who goes to watch a movie just to entertain them, not to find faults on them.. !!! Movie lovers plz go ahead and watch it.. you will find out most pleasure and will get entertained to the core for sure..!!!! VEER is a good movie if not excellent.. !!!
