Singham Returns has recorded the highest first day collections for films released in 2014. The film has collected around 20% more than Salman Khan’s Kick which released on a non-holiday during the Ramadan period.
Holiday releases usually tend to collect about 50% more than non-holiday releases. However, the average ticket prices of Singham Returns was lower than Kick and the number of screens was also about 10% lesser.
The hugely popular Singham brand, director Rohit Shetty and the presence of Ajay Devgn has ensured that Singham Returns has posted opening day records in several circuits including Mumbai, C.P Berar, C.I and Rajasthan. Other territories like West Bengal and Mysore, where such films don’t usually perform well, have also scored big on Day 1.

now some people will say that ce was big hit due to rohit shetty, i just want to say that b’wood is superstar based industry, not director’s. it’s more of ajay starrer than bieng rohit film, now the question is that why ajay films open well with only rohit ?
the answer is very clear, ajay might be one of india’s best actor’s, he might be great actor in serious roles but his serious films doesn’t work that much, he is more of an actor like akki and salman, who are liked more in masala films but don’t have the same star power in other’s….where actor’s like aamir, hrithik and srk are liked in every single genre. saying that ajay is made by rohit is like salman is mad by david dhawan and anees baazme. if you check salman’s hit and flop film then you will understand that from 2000 to 2009 salman don’t have any hits without these 2 director’s, only exception is baghbaan, where he wasn’t even as lead actor’s in the film, so does that mean that salman is made by them ?
i just want to say that ajay is more liked in masala films but the problem is that he don’t work in masala films with other’s but only rohit, only exceptions being sos and himmatwala, the later bombed in bo, due to being one of the worst films in b’wood history, the other collect as much as bol bachan, yes i know that sos released in diwali but you can’t deny that it clashed with one of the most awaited films of the year, but yet it collect 10.72 crores, wher bol bachan opened with 11.50 croes….and let me till you that a non holiday is much better than first day diwali release even that with clash….it also collect 16.21crores in it’s 2nd day….do you know that first 3 days collection of sos was 39.15 crores where bol bachan was 37.36 crores, so please don’t underistimate ajay devgan’s star power.

@Vikram, the trailer of Jai Ho wasn’t liked, the music failed, production values were low. It just didn’t look a film that deserved the price of multiplex ticket. Eid a big holiday, films released during this period will collect at least 30% more than a non-holiday release.
That applies to every actor, not just Salman. SRK’s biggest non-Eid grosser is JTHJ (120 cr) or Ra One if you include regional collections, Hrithik’s highest non-Diwali grosser is Agneepath (122 cr), Aamir’s Talaash (93 cr). So holiday releases are important for every superstar.
This Arjun Kapoor is such an insane guy,until day before yesterday he was praising SR as if he was the hero of the film,but bcoz he did’nt liked it…he has gone bersek now…it will do 140-150crs even in worst case dude..WOM is decent and atlast what can one expect from the guy who liked Humshakals so much!!!!
Akshay Kumar should postpone Shaukeen Remake as Action Jackson will also be huge.

@Babaji, the problem is, more figures leads to confusion amongst readers. And most always want to believe the higher figure. We try to post our estimates from collections that we receive, but prefer sticking to one figure for big films to try and avoid answering so many questions from readers.
Most people just do not understand or value the amount of hard work we put into getting figures and posting estimates. Not easy :)
