Sultan is the first festive release of the year and it’ll be Salman Khan who returns once again with a film that has something in it for every section of the audience.
The first half of the year has had a couple of 100 crore grossers (Airlift and Housefull 3), but it was the Hollywood film ‘The Jungle Book’ that remains the biggest money spinner of the year so far.
The second half of the year has bigger films lined up for release and we begin with arguably the biggest. The Eid weekend has been phenomenal over the years and Salman has dominated it every year since 2009, barring the year 2013 when he didn’t have a release.
2016 is expected to continue the trend and give the industry one of its biggest opening days and possibly one of its highest grossers.

- 2010: Dabangg (1800 screens) - 14.5 crore
- 2011: Bodyguard (2250 screens) - 21 crore (45% growth, holiday)

- 2014: Kick (4000 screens) – 26.52 crore (20% drop. Pre Eid, non-holiday)
- 2015: Bajrangi Bhaijaan (4000 screens) - 27.25 crore (3% growth, Pre Eid, non-holiday)
Kick and Bajrangi Bhaijaan released on a working day, during Ramadan, when majority of muslim audience don’t watch films in theatres. Sultan will be a little different, because it’ll be a partial holiday in a few states tomorrow and business will also grow evening onwards on Wednesday – because Thursday is a national holiday. So the advantage that Sultan carries, should be similar to FAN which released on Ram Navami earlier this year.
We put the advantage of a partial holiday at around 20%, while film business tends to pick up by 35-40% for big films on national holidays.
The biggest non-holiday opening till date is the Rs 36.22 crore total (including all versions) of Dhoom 3 in 2013.
IndicineFBO (opening day prediction): We expect Sultan to collect Rs 38.5 crore on Day 1. The huge response to the advance booking, along with the fact that nights shows are expected to pick up, should ensure a record-breaking total for Sultan on its first day. If the word-of-mouth is good, Thursday could be bigger than Wednesday.

Guys till now we donot have officially recognized sites like mojo, imdb for hollywood movies to track the box office collection of hindi movies. Also official figures in holywood are accurate comparitive to bollywood which are often tempered. Spanish box office tracking company rentrak has also recently atarted their service in india & PK being the 1st. Still their service is expensive and subject to optional criteria which many cannot afford. While we all agree PK and Bajrangi Bhaijaan are the biggest hits of bolywood respectively as per the net collection and foot falls, many would not agree the same about inflated figures of robot, bahubali and krissh 3. While robot and bahubali are still massive and should be considered as regional movies abide with different tax rules krissh 3 has been heavely trolled fue to its heightened inflated collections. Now as per opening day collection there are two reliable sources with 2 different collection. As per official source HNY colects highiest with 45 cr. Folowed by PRDP with 41 cr both in all versions. This collections, particularly for HNY looks quite inflated as it varies quite a bit compare to trade. As per trade PRDP is highiest with 40 cr opening day collection followed by 38 Cr of HNY, both were post deewali release. Now considering Sultan is pre eid release with partial holiday with massive pick up expected during late evening & night shows considering tomorrow is national eid holiday coupled with never seen advance booking somehow closer box office collection to them is ecpected, still seems like they are safe. Well record for non holiday collection belongs to dhoom 3 which is respectively 36 & 33 crore including all version as per official and trade source which we are definetely looking for Sultan to shatter by a big margin. Well in any case its win win for all. Either salman vs salman, salman vs shahrukh or salman vs aamir. Box office is certain to come alive. I know that you guys must have considered all factors in and would have also received responses from various online portals and theaters regarding the advance booking for day 1; I still think that 38.5 is a huge ask. I would be very happy if it hits 32 or 33 because if we compare it with kick which was a movie to have a better initial due to its appeal towards all type of audience, that movie opened at 26-27 so 33 would be a good total. But you can never underestimate the power of Salman khan when it comes to the opening of a movie. Let’s hope the Juggernaut breaks everything tomorrow. God Bless everyone, Eid Mubarak in advance!!!
