Sultan has just completed a record-breaking first week at the box office – smashing records of all previous films including the first week business of all-time-blockbusters like Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Dhoom 3 and PK.
The film has also surpassed the lifetime business of films like 3 Idiots, Happy New Year and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (Hindi) in just one week.
While the first week business is record-breaking, the trend over the weekdays hasn’t been great for the film. Bigger than expected drops were witnessed on both Monday and Tuesday, after a huge extended weekend.
Two things are certain now; one, the film has no chance of surpassing the business of PK (we had mentioned in one of our earlier reports, that the only record that has eluded Salman Khan since 2010 has been the highest grosser of all time), two, the trend isn’t as good as both PK and Bajrangi Bhaijaan.
The first extended week collections will finish at around the 230 crore mark. Dhoom 3 added 70 crore after 9 days with plenty of holiday and a free run. Sultan will be competing with Great Grand Masti, Friday onwards, so it remains to be seen what sort of impact the sex comedy will have on the Salman Khan starrer.

wom was definitely not on the level of bb or pk, but it will beat D:3 for sure and will make it’s place in the 300cr if audience comes in big numbers to watch it on Saturday/Sunday…. 208cr in 7 days is simply Outstanding and out of the world collection most importantly it become BLOCKBUSTER in 5 days itself with 100cr distributor shares…. that’s a tough record to beat !!!! Now adays people’s are watching films which has content BB by far was the best movie of this decade but because of competition with Baahubali/Drishyam and less holidays it felt short from 350cr mark or else footfalls shows it’s the best movie of current decade, SULTAN was way better than D:3 so it will eventually do more than D:3 both in India and Worldwide….For now BB/Pk looks tough….But I’m more than happy with the kind of atmosphere #SULTAN created in the first extended weekend !!!!
sultan is avg movie and it has only eid holiday unlyk ce which enjoyed eid,independence,rakhi purnima,and only one free week.if g grand masti will nt release this week sultan should have collected 300 cr but now there is a doubt but still an outside chance.i think lyftime 290 cr approx.

Eid doesn’t have holiday week. This is the biggest drawback of this festival. It only has one holiday and depends on the weekend collections.
Diwali and Xmas are huge festivals with holidays and vacations, which automatically draw audiences.
If you look at that perspective, then Bajrangi was by far the best wom and if not for a big and grand movie like Bahubali, as i said yesterday, it would have easily crossed 350 cr. The TRP of BB on TV is a proof of how much people liked it.
Sultan wom is not in the “excellent” range, but good to average, which is the reason it is struggling on working weekdays.
Whoever says that Sultan’s collection is due to the power of EDX, have no idea of what they are talking. Eid is completely different than Diwali and Xmas. Here it is more of raw star power than holidays. If the content had been great, the combination of star power + content would have taken this movie beyond PK.
The best thing is that it broke lot of records, which once again proved beyond doubt that Salman continues to reign bollywood.
Wan to watch a 300 cr movie? You guys will have to wait for Dangal. Salman can never beat Aamir Khan the king khan.
