Sultan has just completed a record-breaking first week at the box office – smashing records of all previous films including the first week business of all-time-blockbusters like Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Dhoom 3 and PK.
The film has also surpassed the lifetime business of films like 3 Idiots, Happy New Year and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (Hindi) in just one week.
While the first week business is record-breaking, the trend over the weekdays hasn’t been great for the film. Bigger than expected drops were witnessed on both Monday and Tuesday, after a huge extended weekend.
Two things are certain now; one, the film has no chance of surpassing the business of PK (we had mentioned in one of our earlier reports, that the only record that has eluded Salman Khan since 2010 has been the highest grosser of all time), two, the trend isn’t as good as both PK and Bajrangi Bhaijaan.
The first extended week collections will finish at around the 230 crore mark. Dhoom 3 added 70 crore after 9 days with plenty of holiday and a free run. Sultan will be competing with Great Grand Masti, Friday onwards, so it remains to be seen what sort of impact the sex comedy will have on the Salman Khan starrer.

As I stated earlier, first five days helped putting the film big numbers on B.O. and post that it’s trending like any normal movie.
It’s certainly not about the star power (yes, stardom too matters till an extent) but it’s the festive period which helps a movie the most.
If we look at the Eid recrods since 2010 , every Eid was record smashing.
I remember, in 2013 , many news channels re-named Chennai express as “Record Express” because CE, too, had shown the similar trends as that of Sultan.
And despite of facing dual competition from sixth day onwards, it went on to be the highest grosser of all time (which seems impossible for Sultan as of now).
A festive weekend with no competition ensures that your movie won’t flop despite of its content.
If the trend continues, 300 CR too will be a distant dream. All eyes on Great Grand Masti now. If it turns out to be entertaining, it will severely dent the collections of Sultan because majority of audiences for both the movies belong to mass belts.

I am not sure if the trend is not as good as BB or PK! The 6th day is equal to 7th day of BB.Similarly, the 7th day is above the 8th day of BB.But yes, Sultan is facing no competition as of now. Considering the lead of 25 Crores, 300 is obviously a possibility. But the second weekend holds the key!

The thing is that Sultan is a one time watch. BB and Pk were not. You can watch these 2 films more than 2 time you will not get bored. Thats the difference i think

Great collection. Hope movie will cross 300 cr mark. I like the movie. It is one of the best Salman Khan movie. He is superb in sultan.

All those that still say he is a non actor should go and watch HAHK, Andaz Apna Apna & Karan Arjun where he played different roles that showed his versatility.

It entertaining but not on BB level though. The film draws a lot of inspiration from Rocky, Warrior and undisputed 3 but That’s fine it also holds an indian strength of the film That’s the romantic angle. It is in the same premis as Akshay’s Brothers. The only difference u can connect with the emotions in Sultan but not with brothers. It just shows even a half baked salman film is enough

Every social site did promotion in favor of SULTAN,THOUSANDS of article,Extreme (paid) reviews,Eid Occasion, & HIS tag ” VHAI” r d reason to create havoc in box office record for first week.. But after a week what is happening??? We all know that..
So It is clear now SALMAN(NON-ACTOR) is also a “ONE WEEK” MEGASTAR.. ????

Watched Great grand masti few day back & it is hilarious.. As a double meaning erotic comedy it is far better than mastizade & kya Kool hay hum 3.. So it will dent heavily Sultan collection for sure coming days..
am not saying FAN would have been block buster if it releases EDX but atleast EDX would have saved to reach 100cr club or get the clean hit tag.
