Bollywood superstar Salman Khan is set to dominate the Eid weekend once again, as the star power of the actor has earned his upcoming release ‘Sultan’ the second most lucrative release period of the year.
The under-performance of Dilwale and the failure of FAN is one of the reasons why Raees has moved, but to give credit where credit is due – taking on Salman Khan is not an option that anyone in the industry has at this point in time. His fan-following, especially at smaller centres, is light years ahead of everyone else and more so during the weekend that he has dominated for nearly 6 years.
Every Eid release, right from Dabangg in 2010 to Bajrangi Bhaijaan in 2015, has been a blockbuster or better – which is a phenomenal, never before achieved, record.
We had written an article just before the release of Chennai Express in 2013, which was titled ‘Bollywood clashes – Might Is Right‘. The article still holds true today. Unless the makers are extremely confident of the content of their films, it’s the bigger star who will always get the bigger dates.
It’s not about the history of your successful clashes or your past achievements, but for the trade, it’s all about an actor’s current standing in the industry. It’s all about business at the end of the day and whoever can generate higher footfalls in theatres, will be given the first preference (i.e bigger release at single-screens and higher number of shows at multiplexes – if there is a clash).
So it’ll be Sultan on Eid this year. Solo.
The film releases in theatres on July 6 (Wednesday), which would give it a 5-day extended weekend. It has 16 open days before the release of ‘Great Grand Masti’ on July 22. If content clicks, get ready for yet another Salman Khan blockbuster.
Raees won’t cross 100 cr now as many fans of srk have lost their faith on their fav star.They’ll get more heartbroken watching sultan attaining a bb/atbb status at the box office and many might transition from srk fan to a Salman fan.
The most idiotic thing would be to release raees on republic day with clash from yet another film (in case hrithik moves out) of an established star.
Really,who will go to watch a criminal character on republic day. So yes tough times ahead for srk and seems like it’s finally dawn of a star.
Salman/Amir/Hrithik/Ajay/Akshay on the other hand have promising films in their kitty and will keep cruising the industry with their star power.
While younger stars are notching up great bo numbers with a two film old tiger shroff is on his way to beat an srk starrer times are bad for srk.
Will be interesting to see how he bounces back(if he does) and roar at the bo again,seems tough but then haar kar jeetne wale ko baazigar kehte hain.

Nowadays srk is no match for Salman and the competition for the hgoty is more or less between the Raja of Bollywood (Aamir Sir) and the Sultan of Bollywood (Salman bhai)

Even in the past (srk’s so called golden period) they have given hgoty quite a few times and this year won’t be any different.
Now coming back to the main topic taking on SALMAN KHAN is suicidal for anyone at this point of time. His films (except for Dabangg and BB) in last few years have been thrashed by critics but his supreme star power. He is like big b of mid 70’s – mid 80’s and srk is like rajesh khanna ( both had a hit streak, both have garnered applauds in romantic films , the both are egoistic and both gradually faded away in their late 40’s)

I do not expect much from MARIGOLD’s director whether it has Leonardo or Robert junior downey.
The problem with the megastar is that even his average or above average movies go on to collect more than best content & well appreciated of all the actors except aamir and become BBs and if the content clicks like as in the case of BB then it just goes on to become the most watched movie since sunny deol’s Gadar (BB was just plain unlucky that it missed out on being the highest grosser of all time for some obvious reasons ).
The megastar seems to have toiled very hard & has put in a lot more effort in this movie then he normally does so expecting the results to be as fruitful & sweet but honestly I am not expecting a BB like content from Abbas zafar but even if the movie’s content is as decent as ETT it is a sure shot BB and surprisingly if the sultan turns out to be somewhat as good as lagaan or CDI then 300 crores tho pakka samjho.
I just don’t want people to have unusually high expectations from this people , just enjoy the movie for what it is , let’s enjoy the legend of the salman khan and let’s celebrate the life for what it is .

In 2006 he had 3 releases and all flops.
In 2007 he had 4 releases : 1 blockbuster, 2 flops and 1 disaster.
In 2008 he had 4 releases : 1 disaster, 2 flops and 1 below average
Even in 2009 he had two releases : 1 flop and 1 disaster.

So from that position to rise back to the top position today is an incredible and unbelievable comeback and something I dont think may have ever happened in Indian cinema ever. He deserves all the praises and credit.
Only Amir comes very close to him today but if I talk about stardom then Salman is definitely the biggest star today. No doubt about that.
I don’t think 6 july is perfect date for sultan bcoz next 3 days will be non holiday and there will be the biggest test for sultan. I think 1 july will be the perfect if makers release movie on 1 july then eid come after 5 days ( 6th july 6th day is eid day ) . In case of kick it was release on 25th july and eid come after 4 days ( 29 july 5th days was eid day ). IF Salman release kick before 5 days of eid then why not sultan before 6 days??
