Bollywood superstar Salman Khan is set to dominate the Eid weekend once again, as the star power of the actor has earned his upcoming release ‘Sultan’ the second most lucrative release period of the year.
The under-performance of Dilwale and the failure of FAN is one of the reasons why Raees has moved, but to give credit where credit is due – taking on Salman Khan is not an option that anyone in the industry has at this point in time. His fan-following, especially at smaller centres, is light years ahead of everyone else and more so during the weekend that he has dominated for nearly 6 years.
Every Eid release, right from Dabangg in 2010 to Bajrangi Bhaijaan in 2015, has been a blockbuster or better – which is a phenomenal, never before achieved, record.
We had written an article just before the release of Chennai Express in 2013, which was titled ‘Bollywood clashes – Might Is Right‘. The article still holds true today. Unless the makers are extremely confident of the content of their films, it’s the bigger star who will always get the bigger dates.
It’s not about the history of your successful clashes or your past achievements, but for the trade, it’s all about an actor’s current standing in the industry. It’s all about business at the end of the day and whoever can generate higher footfalls in theatres, will be given the first preference (i.e bigger release at single-screens and higher number of shows at multiplexes – if there is a clash).
So it’ll be Sultan on Eid this year. Solo.
The film releases in theatres on July 6 (Wednesday), which would give it a 5-day extended weekend. It has 16 open days before the release of ‘Great Grand Masti’ on July 22. If content clicks, get ready for yet another Salman Khan blockbuster.

AND I am pretty sure Raees will be a powerpack entertainer than Sultan as Salman’s movie basically relies on his Stardom rather than the script.But at the end of the day, content speaks if film has to sustain longer. Great opportunity for SRK to get gis stardom back just wasted. AGAR Marna hi hai to Ladke marenge.

So Excel / Red chillies’ decision to avert the clash with the might of Salman is a good one…but I would be really surprised if the news doing the rounds about Raees clashing with Kaabil and Baadshaho is true…

In 2006 Jaan-E-Mann clashed with Don and it was a one sided clash . Jaan-E-Mann was a flop and Don was a Hit . 10 years later in 2016 Sultan is releasing solo on Eid and Raees is postponed to 26th Jan 2017 . So Salman Khan has beaten SRK before the match has even started . I don’t think anybody imagined such a turnaround in 10 years . Salman has made Eid his own and the combo of YRF and Salman is looking super strong . Now Sultan is a huge contender for the HGOTY along with Dangal as both these movies have Megastars, solo releases and are releasing on Festival periods .

Both Sultan and Dangal have earned their solo releases due to the incredible stardom and box office performance of Salman and Amir. Have always said that no matter how early someone announces a date it is always the bigger star who will have the first right on the lucrative festival releases.
And no doubt Salman and Amir are the top two stars today with no one willing to take a risk to clash with them. So all credit to Salman and Amir both for their sheer dominance over the box office.
The debate over who is now at 3rd, 4th and onwards will continue but no debate at all about the top 2 positions.
This year it shall be a war between Dangal and Sultan for the HGOTY and what a war it shall be. Two top stars at their peak. Shall be fascinating to watch who wins.

Christmas- Ranveer or Ranbir(Bhansali’s next or Sanjay Dutt biopic- either of them are confirmed to release on that day, or perhaps both)
Forget Raees, even Gauri Shinde, Aanand Rai and Imtiaz Ali films don’t have any release dates now. And if ur Global King doesn’t hurry, even the the remaining 2 national holidays next year might be taken by Akshay Kumar’s Kaththi remake and Ajay Devgn’s Sons of Sardaar or some Varun Dhawan film.
Now only 2 options for Global King:
1) Release his films with Sunny Leone films, Great Grand Masti or Tusshar Kapoor films
Or
2) Release them on Mars(as some of his fans always says that SRK has fans everywhere)

SRk is ready to clash with Hrithik n Ajay combined but not ready face Sultan says a lot about Salman’s stardom. He is at his peak. It would have been suicide.
But Srk’s is definitely in trouble. Whatever his fans may say he himself has started doubting his stardom. No good film since Chak de and his overhyped Fan also falling flat. Also republic day he wants to clash with 2 another biggies. And m sure he will backout again if Mohejodaro and Shivaay do some humongous business.
May be early to say but Srk’s stardom is on downward slope. He looks weak, old and can’t act or has no script sense left. Even 2 film Tiger is doing better than him. May be I am wrong but all this Raees release date issue is hinting this.
