Bollywood superstar Salman Khan is set to dominate the Eid weekend once again, as the star power of the actor has earned his upcoming release ‘Sultan’ the second most lucrative release period of the year.
The under-performance of Dilwale and the failure of FAN is one of the reasons why Raees has moved, but to give credit where credit is due – taking on Salman Khan is not an option that anyone in the industry has at this point in time. His fan-following, especially at smaller centres, is light years ahead of everyone else and more so during the weekend that he has dominated for nearly 6 years.
Every Eid release, right from Dabangg in 2010 to Bajrangi Bhaijaan in 2015, has been a blockbuster or better – which is a phenomenal, never before achieved, record.
We had written an article just before the release of Chennai Express in 2013, which was titled ‘Bollywood clashes – Might Is Right‘. The article still holds true today. Unless the makers are extremely confident of the content of their films, it’s the bigger star who will always get the bigger dates.
It’s not about the history of your successful clashes or your past achievements, but for the trade, it’s all about an actor’s current standing in the industry. It’s all about business at the end of the day and whoever can generate higher footfalls in theatres, will be given the first preference (i.e bigger release at single-screens and higher number of shows at multiplexes – if there is a clash).
So it’ll be Sultan on Eid this year. Solo.
The film releases in theatres on July 6 (Wednesday), which would give it a 5-day extended weekend. It has 16 open days before the release of ‘Great Grand Masti’ on July 22. If content clicks, get ready for yet another Salman Khan blockbuster.

Don’t know why this SRK is always so desperate to mess up others’ films.

Agreed till an extent, but one should not forget that most of his blockbusters were favored by perfect release dates and they didn’t face any clash.
Ok, it will be suicidal for makers to take on Salman Khan, that too on Eid.
But don’t you think if a director like Bhansali decides to release his BM against Sultan, it might fail to win the clash, but definitely will hamper the collections.
His movies are fetching huge numbers on B.O. during Eid, because he is getting a free run of 2-3 weeks.
If they clash with even a B-listed star like Varun, Siddharth or Ranbir, they won’t attain the blockbuster status for sure, if content of those movies are like Bodyguard, ETT or Kick.
@Xzone, Bhansali’s was a calculated risk. He knew his film had content and he also knew Rohit’s film wouldn’t have anything new to offer. By the time the Christmas weekend comes around, Bajirao Mastani was leading. It was a well-planned and executed move.
Eid is a little different, the holidays and people watching films in theatre falls in the first weekend / week itself. It’s a top-heavy release period. So the holiday advantage subsides by the time word-of-mouth kicks in. If WOM is excellent, we get a major grosser like Bajrangi Bhaijaan.
Now 250+ liftime is easy for super sultan
There’s no doubt about that..I always said it the Biggest stars gets the biggest release date. Their footfalls, trade most especially distributor share being the ultimate.
This Superstar has exhaled in all…passed all the trade exams with Distinctions (A+).
Whatever that is favouring Salman is simply due to all his merits and achievements.
A legend in Hindi cinema already that will always remain in the memories of both the old and the younger generations.

Please look at the articles below for confirmation. Sultan was announced for Eid way before Raees. Raees was announced for Eid in Feb 2015 while sultan was announced for Eid 2016 in October 2014. Below are 2 articles one by times of India dated October 19,2014 and other also in 2014 by your own website. Please do not be biased. Let everyone know the truth.
