A couple of weeks ago, Ashutosh Gowarikar’s Mohenjo Daro was one of the most awaited films of 2016. The trailer was expected to make a huge impact, giving the Hrithik Roshan starrer a big advantage in the box office clash against Akshay Kumar’s Rustom.
After all, on paper, Mohenjo Daro ticked almost every box. A talented and more established director. Bigger budget and scale. A bigger box office star, who does fewer films. The genre was also in Mohenjo Daro’s favour, after the success of ‘Baahubali’ and ‘Bajirao Mastani’.
But now that the trailers of both films are out, the tables have turned and the clash is now going to be much closer.
Rustom is leading at this point in time, because the costs are much lower and the trailer has managed to find appreciation – both with the audience and trade. This will result in Rustom getting higher number of screens than it previously would (not compared to Mohenjo Daro), it’s also likely to get a decent single-screen release. The film could also get equal number of shows at multiplexes, which will be a massive advantage.
As things stand today, Rustom has already won half the battle with a solid trailer. Mohenjo Daro will now rely on music to increase the buzz and post-release, the content to click big time.
The math is simple, to recover costs, both films combined have to collect more than Rs 230 crore at the box office. The ratio will be 65:35. Mohenjo Daro will not only have to take the lead against Rustom, it’ll have to nearly double its collections.
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Ashutosh Gowariker is taking on a biggie. Exactly 15 years ago, Lagaan released with Gadar. Gowarikar lost the clash, but his film did well enough to recover costs and Lagaan went on to become only the 3rd Oscar nominated Indian film.
Rustom doesn’t even need to be a Gadar, not even close, but Mohenjo Daro will have to match or get close to the quality of Lagaan.
Wow!!! Indicine, as expected from you, you are bashing Hrithik Roshan’s MD. Of course, I accept that Rustom trailer was good. But it doesn’t have anything new but regular thriller, which happens to come again and again.
But MJD trailer, although it had some editing flaws, looks like grand and magnum opus. Films like that come once in a decade only.
Once the film is released, it will click huge at the BO, because it will have Hrithik, Ashutosh and content.
Don’t judge the book by its cover.

Mohenjodaaro (directed by ashu bigger budget will get more prints screen ) versus RUSTOM(PRESENTED BY ZEE LESSOR BUDGET )
While Mohenjo Daro will earn around 180 Crores at the BO, Rustom should earn 80-90 Crores. This prediction looks like honest and more accurate.

now to the battle iam hrithik fan and agree the gab between the two film before the trailer is huge but now the gab is close becuuse of 2 things
first its clear the trailer : its not like Rustom trailer is better but its just give people what they expect but MD give people much less than what we expect and this is from aman who love the trailer but yes their is no wow factor this much be their for this kind of film
secend : the clash give Akki film alot of hype because with solo releae no one we even care no so many people just want hrithik to fail because if MD turn to be agood hit then by by Sharukh knan in the top 3 and also other celeb or fan want MD to flop because if the film turn to be ahit then if only hrithik who can make these risky film work and thats aprobelm for baised people

Hey Hrithikians Common guys cheer up, Don’t loose hopes, we know that it deserved better response but its ok. I think its good to play like a underdog as compared to Champion, so trust me we will get through from this negativity around Mohenjo Daro.
Hrithik will prove his metal and Mohenjo Daro will emerge as a Success which it deserves more bcz of Risk and Guts to do such film on this Concept.

Watched Rustom Trailer.
It’s A gripping,gritty,dark and tremendously beautiful trailer. Absolutely loved it and the cinematography looks beautiful… amazing acting from Akshay Kumar. Tbh, loved Akki’s dialogue delivery after a long time.
Btw, I still believe Mohanjodaro Will have the upper hand do more business.

Yes the trailer of Rustom has done its job,it was an intriguing trailer and due to clash there is much more interest in Rustom than any other Akki film in recent times.You can gauge the no. of comments on Rustom related articles or check the YouTube likes.This is the reason why producers wanted this independence day weekend,not only you get 2 holidays but also the much required buzz.
But you are sounding as if Mjd is down and out.I don’t agree with this,Mjd still has a much more favourable genre which can work big time at mass centres too.AR Rahman’s music is yet to come.
