A couple of weeks ago, Ashutosh Gowarikar’s Mohenjo Daro was one of the most awaited films of 2016. The trailer was expected to make a huge impact, giving the Hrithik Roshan starrer a big advantage in the box office clash against Akshay Kumar’s Rustom.
After all, on paper, Mohenjo Daro ticked almost every box. A talented and more established director. Bigger budget and scale. A bigger box office star, who does fewer films. The genre was also in Mohenjo Daro’s favour, after the success of ‘Baahubali’ and ‘Bajirao Mastani’.
But now that the trailers of both films are out, the tables have turned and the clash is now going to be much closer.
Rustom is leading at this point in time, because the costs are much lower and the trailer has managed to find appreciation – both with the audience and trade. This will result in Rustom getting higher number of screens than it previously would (not compared to Mohenjo Daro), it’s also likely to get a decent single-screen release. The film could also get equal number of shows at multiplexes, which will be a massive advantage.
As things stand today, Rustom has already won half the battle with a solid trailer. Mohenjo Daro will now rely on music to increase the buzz and post-release, the content to click big time.
The math is simple, to recover costs, both films combined have to collect more than Rs 230 crore at the box office. The ratio will be 65:35. Mohenjo Daro will not only have to take the lead against Rustom, it’ll have to nearly double its collections.
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Ashutosh Gowariker is taking on a biggie. Exactly 15 years ago, Lagaan released with Gadar. Gowarikar lost the clash, but his film did well enough to recover costs and Lagaan went on to become only the 3rd Oscar nominated Indian film.
Rustom doesn’t even need to be a Gadar, not even close, but Mohenjo Daro will have to match or get close to the quality of Lagaan.
one film should get preponed by a week……thats an open week…….second week films can happily coexist!
battle is lukin very intresting now with terrific response to rustom trailor.i hope both films do well and eventually become success.as on today pendulum is swinging in the rustom’s side.
Am going to watch both of them,but as of now Rustom will be my first choice coz the trailer has impressed me alot.
rustom music is looking promising, the song used in the trailer is catchy, moreover these days audience is quite intelligent and rustom is looking promising!!!
release date is perfect, as independence day + navy officer + true events + patriot feeling all these will work in favor of rustom.

Watched Rustom trailer and I noticed that tension is missing which is required for the movie . It doesnt looks slick and lacks class which was their in Special 26, Baby and Airlift . At times I found it similar to Azhar . Tinu Suresh Desai had directed crap 1920 London so my expectations is somewhat low now .

MJD trailer is not excellent… it is strictly average.
Rustom trailer is superb.
But Rustom is looking a complete multiplex film.
Now only hope for MJD is music.
If music is charterbuster & attract ss audience(looks difficult as Rehman not famous for mass music so as genre of movie allowed it) then MJD will take lead.
If both films recieve well then Rustom 90 & MJD 150crs
If MJD gets rejected then Rustom 120 MJD 90crs.
If Rustom rejected(Looks tough with this kind trailer) then Rustom 60 MJD 170crs.
If both rejected Rustom 70 MJD 90crs.
But now it looks that Rustom will be clean hit & MJD will struggle for clean hit status even in best case due to budget.
MJD messed up badly don’t know why they not preferd solo release on 2nd October.

Rustom has no chance of beating Mohenjo Daro . Critically both the movies can be equal but commercially Mohenjo Daro will be miles ahead of Rustom due to more commercial genre and much better director . Previously , I thought that Rustom can do max 100 crores with clash and positive wom but after seeing Housefull 3 underperformance I think Rustom can do max 85 crores with clash . Nothing against Akshay, just said what I thought .

I wish that both movies would deliver so that two movies can start co-existing. But boy O boy Rustom trailer did deliver and even went beyond expectations. It is the best recieved trailer of the year. On youtube like against dislike it is running at 99+% in favor of like against dislike. That means with every 50 thousands likes you get just above 1 thousand dislike. Btw how those Akshay do it Switching characters so effortlessly. From Sandy to Rustom. Bravoure!

After watching Rustom trailer, I am quite sure that MohenjoDaro will be a better movie than Rustom.
MohenjoDaro trailer was not highly impressive due to its cuts.
Where as Rustom is not highly impressive despite not having cuts problems.
Rustom looks like a regular Bollywood thriller drama. Baby and Airlift trailers were much better.

While MohenjoDaro unfairly suffered from negativity, Rustom is getting overpraised despite its fairly good trailer!
Some people are seriously against MohenjoDaro. I have read articles where they had told people to boycott MohenjoDaro in their heading.
Even on Twitter, many celebrities who even praised the crappy promo of Dishoom remained silent during MohenjoDaro trailer release.
Special 26 Is the best thriller movie of akshay and the fabolus start of akshay -Neeraj combo.Rustom cross 100 Crore,because akshay in thriller genere is the best think in bollywood now.If filim match up with lagan or jodha akvar then mohenjadaro easly cross 150 Crore .
