Last week, Rakesh Roshan announced that his upcoming production ‘Kaabil’ will release in theatres a day before it was previously scheduled. In a statement to the media, Roshan said his film will hit theatres at 6PM on 25th January.
About a week after the announcement and a day prior to the release of the ‘Raees’ theatrical trailer, reports emerged that Shah Rukh Khan had also decided to release his film on 25th January.
Reacting to this, Rakesh Roshan has slammed the makers of Raees saying “Whatever dates we are taking, they are following us. I would have never done the same”
Here’s what the senior Roshan had to say to DNA:
I didn’t know about their date. My distributors said we should come out on January 25 from the evening shows. I didn’t know the Raees team also planned to change their date.
Whatever dates we are taking, they are following us. I would have never done the same. I belong to an old school of filmmaking and I have given 50 years of my life to the industry. I would never release my film on a day when another filmmaker has already announced their film. I decided to remove Krrish 4 also from Christmas 2018 because I saw SRK’s film is coming that day. I could have easily released my film with Befikre or even with Dangal if I had to clash. But when I announced the film in February, I saw a clean window in January and hence I picked the date. I can’t get into this new groove of things because I don’t understand it.”
It’s a full fledged release on November 25 and not just paid previews. Now that the other film is following my release date, it’s up to my distributors to take a call – whether to release from 6 pm or right from the morning shows.
After a ugly box office clash between Ajay Devgn and Karan Johar during Diwali this year, we could be in for yet another dirty clash. However, while Ajay and Karan were never the best of friends, the relationship that the Roshans share with SRK goes back to the early 90s. In fact, Hrithik is very close to the main men at Excel Entertainment too.
It’s a clash that should not have happened, but with both sides unwilling to move, two similar films are heading towards a major clash at the box office.

Well, if makers of Raees are free to release their movie on whichever date they want (no matter how unethical it is), then Rakesh Roshan is also free to speak his mind. India is a democratic country and everyone has right to speak their opinion. It’s not like Rakesh Roshan is bad mouthing anyone or saying anything against of Raees, it’s just bitter truth.
No, by unethical, I don’t mean to clash Raees with Kaabil, but announcing the same date without even talking with makers of Kaabil to discuss the situation. Rakesh Roshan consulted with makers of Badshaho before announcing Kaabil’s release date.

This man RR can do nothing but show his films’ collections inflated, that is his track record… With every release of his production there are conflicting figures – He quotes something else while the actual is something else… This man booked whole theaters for ‘Kaho naa pyaar hai’ just to show that movie is running housefull and thus created hype… He’s a shrewd producer… But on the other hand SRK is also not so nice, he announced ‘Dilwale’ when Bajirao Mastani was already on and paid the price, now he’s releasing is again with a head-on clash but this time it seems he’s confident of the product… Raees looks much better than Kaabil, much comparable to BigB’s classic ‘Dewaar’… All the best only to SRK…

It is dirty tactics by RCE and Excel. I can understand the clash set on Jan 26th due to lack of good release dates but following FilmKraft and releasing a day before is not fair. Would like to see what SRK fans call this now ? They blamed AJ for playing dirty despite announcing the movie first on Diwali. Now SRK is even following step by step of Roshans !!!!!!!!!!!

There is no need to fight for just a single holiday.. And kaabil date was announced first so they are ethically right also.. Let us see what would srk do if someone decides to release a film in xmas 2018 against srk-anand l rai’s next.. Rakesh ji also announced a movie to release on the same date but after knowing about the srk movie he decided to let it go, so he is ethically right here.. Srk is doing only wrong things these days and that is why his career is in doldrums now.. If you cant respect other then you have also no right to ask for respect from others..

Honestly speaking, Raes trailer is too ordinary. It seems they have copied Amitab Bachchan’s Sarkar look in painting Shahrukh Khan’s look and adopted environment of Once upon a time in Mumbai to look like that film. This is a fight between a smuggler and a police which is not a new thing in Bollywood. From beginning to end, nothing in the film excites you. The trailer is only dominated by SRK’s thick voice, nothing else. I don’t know why they are committing suicide with such trailer. Kaabil a small budget film, if the word of mouth is positive, it will get away with a Hit tag easily, but by that time it will seriously affect Raes. The trailer of Raees is so poor that this film should not be a hit even without clash. After back to back two flops at the box office, SRK is only heading for another flop. He knew that his film is not worthy of a hit so he kept moving releasing dates until find a clash with Kaabil. He knows that his film is so cheap that it’s better to die with another film rather than dying along at the box office. It’s just like a suicide attack by a terrorist who won’t die alone but will take more lives with him!!

To all hritik fans with due respect clash are bound to happen and u people are so confident about ur movie than why crying half day wont make any difference and roshans might release there movie from morning itself so its fair and above all there money is riding on movies so obviously they want to earn more and with this they can get an extended day for weekend and can earn few crores more
Anyway both movies are going to suffer in this clash and none of them is going to cross 160 crore max with raees having slight upper hand
