Last week, Rakesh Roshan announced that his upcoming production ‘Kaabil’ will release in theatres a day before it was previously scheduled. In a statement to the media, Roshan said his film will hit theatres at 6PM on 25th January.
About a week after the announcement and a day prior to the release of the ‘Raees’ theatrical trailer, reports emerged that Shah Rukh Khan had also decided to release his film on 25th January.
Reacting to this, Rakesh Roshan has slammed the makers of Raees saying “Whatever dates we are taking, they are following us. I would have never done the same”
Here’s what the senior Roshan had to say to DNA:
I didn’t know about their date. My distributors said we should come out on January 25 from the evening shows. I didn’t know the Raees team also planned to change their date.
Whatever dates we are taking, they are following us. I would have never done the same. I belong to an old school of filmmaking and I have given 50 years of my life to the industry. I would never release my film on a day when another filmmaker has already announced their film. I decided to remove Krrish 4 also from Christmas 2018 because I saw SRK’s film is coming that day. I could have easily released my film with Befikre or even with Dangal if I had to clash. But when I announced the film in February, I saw a clean window in January and hence I picked the date. I can’t get into this new groove of things because I don’t understand it.”
It’s a full fledged release on November 25 and not just paid previews. Now that the other film is following my release date, it’s up to my distributors to take a call – whether to release from 6 pm or right from the morning shows.
After a ugly box office clash between Ajay Devgn and Karan Johar during Diwali this year, we could be in for yet another dirty clash. However, while Ajay and Karan were never the best of friends, the relationship that the Roshans share with SRK goes back to the early 90s. In fact, Hrithik is very close to the main men at Excel Entertainment too.
It’s a clash that should not have happened, but with both sides unwilling to move, two similar films are heading towards a major clash at the box office.

It’s a clash that should not have happened – agreed. But now since the clash is on, the least they can do is – maintain certain dignity.
Why Rakesh Ji is crying all of sudden?
He preponed his movie to get the initial edge on Raees, so what’s wrong if Raees makers are doing the same?
Roshan is acting like Kejriwal. It seems Only he has the right to distribute the certificates of ‘ethics’ ( likewise Kejri distributes the certificates of Honesty).
He had preponed his movie because he was confident about the content.
So now why are you worried Sir? If your movie is good, no one can stop it from being successful.
Sorry to say but Rakesh is acting like AD and if he continues to behave in the same way, bitterness will further increase.
Rakesh Roshan, do you have any problem with SRK. Everyone are free to release their film anytime. If you are confident enough then go ahead and release your film. RAEES trailer is thousand times better than KAABIL and therefore Rakesh Roshan feeling insecure. We as a neutral person will enjoy this clash. Let’s see winner kaun Hoga….. RAEES has an edge over KAABIL.
I said it earlier on, Kaabil is going the Shivaay way. I feel for both parties involved especially Mr Roshan. I pray that both films work.
Bhag Roshan Bhag!! First Roshan said, since he announced the date of 26th Jan, he will never change as it is something sentimental for him that he will never change!! But when SRK just gave the glimpse n confirm the trailer date on 7 dec, papa Roshan worried and shifted to day earlier evening shows… Now what happend to his sentimental decision??. Now when king SRK have a master stroke to full release from morning show itself…iski tho laggayi!!!

This is a clash that i was waiting for after this August one(where ur sons ekka dukka fans were continously spreading negativity about Rustom & bashing Akki too) but later they got it all back after debacle of MJD & now i m waiting for this to happen bcz i want to teach a lesson to ur Jadoo Boy & his fans and thereby destroy all their arrogance & ego.
Seriously this will be the 2nd most remembered clash after MJD & RUSTOM.

If you have so many issues just postpone or prepone your film.Raees is hot in the trade and will definitely win the clash even with average content.
When your movie has already been postponed and seen multiple delays you don’t think about ethicality.

I will try not to say bad to others but again THEY HAVE TALENT in PROVIKING.
This is the worst possible clash with a average release date, same target audience and 2 lovely STARS.
There are reasons why Rakesh Ji is so much frustrated :
1. He is not getting enough single screens for Kaabil
2. Craze of Raees is unprecedented , whereas Kaabil’s buzz is slowing down. (They badly need a song/dialogue promo within a week to uplift the buzz again).
and third one is my personal opinion (not as an SRK fan but a neutral movie buff) – Accept it or not, trailer of Raees is massy and way better than Kaabil.
So Raees has got an upper hand now itself, let’s see how the things shape up from here.
However, I won’t be surprised if Rakesh Ji comes up with another series of allegations bashing SRK and Raees makers.

First point, I don’t understand the statement that someone should not release a movie on the same date if others have announced. If someone is not doing it, then it purely means they are scared to lose business like the current trend with Salman and Aamir Otherwise I don’t see any ethics issue here if a movie is announced on same date considering the Fridays that we have. have the clash never happened with biggies earlier? Looks like a cry baby
Second point, SRK marketing strategy is always ahead of others, so I firmly believe that he would have planned for 25th and to be thrown as surprise during trailer release but some how it looks now they have copied. Assume even if that copied strategy from Roshan’s what is wrong in that. How can they just stay one day behind if they see it as not a great adv to their film business. 1 week change in release date makes sense but just one day affair could be risky for both films and why would any film will take a chance to allow that option. What is wrong in Raees team also doing the same
