Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees has moved from Eid this year to the Republic Day weekend next year, a date that is occupied by two other big films – Hrithik Roshan’s Kaabil and Ajay Devgn’s Baadshaho.
While pressure from fans (‘Raees on Eid’ has been trending almost every other day) has prevented Ritesh Sidhwani and Shah Rukh Khan to officially announce or even talk about the postponement of Raees on social media, director Rahul Dholakia has had to mince words to confirm that the film is no longer releasing during Eid.
“Film ke liye jo sahi woh sahi. Thank you for your continued support for Raees. Love you all” Dholakia tweeted earlier today.
Official statement from Shah Rukh Khan, Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar “t was not an easy decision to move the film. We understand that this film is highly anticipated. However, a movie of such magnitude requires the appropriate showcasing and therefore, we have decided to shift our release date to 26th January 2017.”

Now that the release date is confirmed, one of Shah Rukh Khan’s most promising films will be ‘too old’ when it releases in theatres. The film will hit screens nearly 19-20 months after the teaser, which was unveiled back in July last year.
Moreover, while the clash with Sultan has been averted, it sets up yet another clash with two other films. Hrithik might move, but Ajay Devgn is known to be stubborn with his release dates.
If yet another clash is what you want, why move from Eid? If your film is not ready, it would probably be a better decision to occupy the Diwali or Christmas weekend. Those two dates can accommodate two big films, but that won’t be the case with Republic Day weekend next year.
Why did they let go of the ‘Bakrid’ weekend, which falls in the second week of September? It was a 4-day weekend and a perfect time to release a film like ‘Raees’. It was their own film ‘Baar Baar Dekho’ (Excel and Dharma) which is scheduled to release during that weekend and ‘Raees’ being the bigger film could have arrived on September 9.
So they postponed it to 26th jan 2017, it’s a clear cut sign that the movie is not up-to the mark and the makers are not confident of their product and the content of movie is crap…but wait according to Haklu fans Raees is a Content rich movie, that’s what they are barking from last year right because they have already watched Raees movie even before it release…so what’s the problem then???
Don’t worry Haklu fans his all upcoming movies will be Content rich movie and all will collect at-least 500cr to 1000cr in domestic market…

@Indicine.com: if you can reach Raees makers or SRK. Please tell them we want this movie in 2016 only. Why they not confident. We want this movie to watch v this year September Eid is very good week they can clash in September if they want but that is good weekend.

@Zealous, we’ve already told them twice that September 9th is the best date. It’s their own film that has the date and Raees is much more important than Baar Baar Dekho.
Even conveyed to them yesterday that it’s best they officially clarify if they are coming on Eid or not, because Twitter trends and things that were happening on Wikipedia was hurting Raees. Which, thankfully, they did.
But if they haven’t internally spoken to Rakesh Roshan and Ajay Devgn over the release date of their films, then this announcement is yet another stupid business decision. Not only is the movie delayed by a year, but it’s set for yet another clash.
If Ajay or Hrithik decide to release their film as scheduled, Excel is not even in a position to move Raees again. If clash is what you want, why not this Eid itself?
See, the shooting of the movie was just not ending, then they add an item song, now it’s been delayed 7 months, I think the movie has not shaped up well, and they need time to fix thr script and do some reshoots. That’s the only explanation for not releasing it on Bakra-eid.

Ridiculous. Looking at movies like Company and Ouatim Ajay seems unbeatable. anything can happen but serious clashiy with Ajay? What’s wrong with the business strategy of Srk. They seem so confused. Am watching Badshaoo first. Ajay is one of the countries finest star with magnificent scripts and half the acting in Ouatim he will easily beat Srk. Stong feeling if it was Ajays production may be he may have shifted not for fear but mutual rapports between Ajay Shah Rukh khan. This is suicide. out of all available dates on Non hols 2016. He should have clashed with Akki while Mohenjo shifts to xmas with Aamir more balanced!

Million Thanks you already alerted Raees team. Now if they even don’t listen to audience then definitely their product doesn’t look confident. Really next SRK movie don’t want just to woo with item song and few watchable scenes. Now they have to come with simple sweet indian story. Beware SRK…. since 2010 your time doesn’t look good now just concentrate on good movie stop your other business.

This clearly shows that producers of RAEES want to earn money… I am a big SRK fan but this decision of SRK and producers prove that the content of the movies will be the weak point.
This movie needs to release this year and SRK must Challange Aamir’s Dangal by releasing it on 25th of decor 9th of dec. the smartest move would be to release the movie a week after Dangal( dangal being almost same as Sultan will not attract people and SRK might Cash in the screens because of all the hype around Raees.) For hype sake Raees must release against any of the other two khan movies else a SUCCESS WILL STILL BE COUNTED AS SRK’S DEFEAT.
Candidly if the 3 movies releases same date(biggest multiple releases of 3 immense superstars) then safe to say “Airlift ” January lifetime will still be safe except 1 or 2 movies are totally rejected which I don’t see that probably only 1.

If clash is the only option than I thick clash with Sultan will more beneficial because Eid weekend will help both movies collection.
But 26th Jan is not a big holiday for business as compared to Eid,Diwali, and Christmas.

They should release Raees on 1st or 3rd July or On Bakra- E-Eid.

Expected. I always knew they wouldn’t clash with Salman because of his stardom and also because of under performance of Dilwale and Fan (Although best acting by SRK in several years after MNIK). BUT WHY MOVE IT TO JAN 26th? WITH TWO BIGGIES, IT WON’T EVEN CROSS 100 CR. Even with regular weekend, you can get over 100 CR. and if the content is good, you might hit 150-175 CR.
So Baar Baar Dekho is releasing on September 9th (Excel production), but what about October 2nd? Use that holiday.

srk sir i m your big fan, but this news has really upset me. ok if clash is sucidal then why dont you release your movie in non holiday. If content is goòd then there is something in store but if releasing in next year means it is only flop not bigger than this.

Only God knows what Raees team is thinking or doing. Difficult to understand for us. They have already messed up quite alot so just praying they dont mess up further for this movie and all ends well.

Ajay won’t shift his movie & he is master actor in this genere if srk clashes then this gangister babu will ruin his career, i think kabil will be shift to another date
Kaabil might get post-poned due to laid back attitude of hrithik and Ajay is busy in perfecting Shivay for clash so might not be able to complete Baadshaho as well..Maybe they have insider news about this so they are taking republic holiday
