Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees has moved from Eid this year to the Republic Day weekend next year, a date that is occupied by two other big films – Hrithik Roshan’s Kaabil and Ajay Devgn’s Baadshaho.
While pressure from fans (‘Raees on Eid’ has been trending almost every other day) has prevented Ritesh Sidhwani and Shah Rukh Khan to officially announce or even talk about the postponement of Raees on social media, director Rahul Dholakia has had to mince words to confirm that the film is no longer releasing during Eid.
“Film ke liye jo sahi woh sahi. Thank you for your continued support for Raees. Love you all” Dholakia tweeted earlier today.
Official statement from Shah Rukh Khan, Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar “t was not an easy decision to move the film. We understand that this film is highly anticipated. However, a movie of such magnitude requires the appropriate showcasing and therefore, we have decided to shift our release date to 26th January 2017.”

Now that the release date is confirmed, one of Shah Rukh Khan’s most promising films will be ‘too old’ when it releases in theatres. The film will hit screens nearly 19-20 months after the teaser, which was unveiled back in July last year.
Moreover, while the clash with Sultan has been averted, it sets up yet another clash with two other films. Hrithik might move, but Ajay Devgn is known to be stubborn with his release dates.
If yet another clash is what you want, why move from Eid? If your film is not ready, it would probably be a better decision to occupy the Diwali or Christmas weekend. Those two dates can accommodate two big films, but that won’t be the case with Republic Day weekend next year.
Why did they let go of the ‘Bakrid’ weekend, which falls in the second week of September? It was a 4-day weekend and a perfect time to release a film like ‘Raees’. It was their own film ‘Baar Baar Dekho’ (Excel and Dharma) which is scheduled to release during that weekend and ‘Raees’ being the bigger film could have arrived on September 9.

I completely agree with Indicine. They should release it on Bakrid that makes a lot of sense because the shooting is complete and it is a ready to release and secondly, Bakrid is another Eid (though not big as Eid after Ramzaan) and lot of muslim viewers (though opening will be huge if released on Bakrid day which is a holiday in 3/4th of India) will throng theaters as Raees is about a muslim don.
Now it will same happening like Jagga Jasuse. They wanted realese JJ movie in 2014. but now it did not realese till now.

shifting from EID was the decision of KING KHAN because HE dowsn’t want ADITYAJI to lose His business but releasing on REPUBLIC DAY is the decision of EXCEL ENTERTAINMENT.

Hritik has very good hold on multiplexes and even among single screen, Ajay has strong hold on single screen while Milan lutharia can ensure reasonable occupancy in plexus… Poor srk , don’t understand who gave this idea, it would have been better had they realised it on Eid or Christmas instead
This is unacceptable. Postponing a movie because it deserves a better release date and avoiding the clash but setting up yet another clash with the new release date. I think they want to keep the buzz alive till next year.

He has entertained you for years and decades, so you owe that to him. But, insomnia, seriously. Enjoy the movie and forget about it. Simple.

Forget Raees, even Gauri Shinde, Aanand Rai and Imtiaz Ali films don’t have any release dates now. And if ur Global King doesn’t hurry, even the the remaining 2 national holidays next year might be taken by Akshay Kumar’s Kaththi remake and Ajay Devgn’s Sons of Sardaar or some Varun Dhawan film.
Now only 2 options for Disaster khan
1 Release his films with Sunny Leone films, Great Grand Masti or Tusshar Kapoor films
Or
2) Release them on Mars(as some of his fans always says that Disaster khan has fans everywhere)

I pity srk he keeps making all the wrong decisions. Yes not gud to clash wth blockbuster khan buh why not Xmas or Diwali? Srk is not afraid of clash he is afraid of clashing wth Sultan.
I don’t understand this strategy to clash 2-3 big movies for just 1 holiday. I can understand clashes on big festivals like Diwali, Christmas and Eid, but releasing 2 big movies on same day just because of 1 holiday (Independence/Republic day) doesn’t make much sense. It’s better to find a solo release than a clash for just 1 holiday.
Although, Republic Day is still way too far away, anything could happen in between. I think SRK’s 2nd preference would have been Diwali, but he might have changed his mind because of his friend Karan Johar. Hrithik and him are also friends, so I don’t think their movies will clash on Republic day next year either.

Extremely extremely extremely disappointed. Such a long delay is not at all acceptable and understandable. Whoever is behind the decision making needs to be really slammed hard for all this pathetic and ridiculous decision making.
First unnecessary creating all the incredible hype, drama and build up over its clash with Sultan. Then postponing it for such a long period and again clashing with two big movies.
A half year delay is not at all acceptable. Such a promising and big movie did not deserve such negativity but the Raees makers have only and only to blame themselves. They are the ones who have brought ridicule upon themselves.
I think after Dilwale and Fans poor performance SRK is down on confidence. Feeling sad for him.
2016 will be remembered as one of the toughest if not the toughest year of his career for both SRK and his fans. One movie releases (that too after a delay) and flops. The other big movie goes for a long delay shying away from clashing from other big movies.

I can only say one thing that it is always easy to support your idol when he is doing great and is at the top. But the real test is when he is down and going through a tough phase. And that too it looks tough considering his outstanding career and it is not like that he has delivered a number of flops. So my request to all would be to back and support him just like we did him before.
And please abstain from calling him coward or something. SRK haters will do obviously but not u guys at least. These decisions are taken on a collective team basis and it may be not something SRK himself may have wanted.
I agree with everything written on this article. 9th September would have been best choice after Eid, it was a 4 day extended weekend and they would have got a solo release as well. I wonder if Karan Johar was against of this decision as well as he’s co producing it along with Excel Entertainment.
