Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees has moved from Eid this year to the Republic Day weekend next year, a date that is occupied by two other big films – Hrithik Roshan’s Kaabil and Ajay Devgn’s Baadshaho.
While pressure from fans (‘Raees on Eid’ has been trending almost every other day) has prevented Ritesh Sidhwani and Shah Rukh Khan to officially announce or even talk about the postponement of Raees on social media, director Rahul Dholakia has had to mince words to confirm that the film is no longer releasing during Eid.
“Film ke liye jo sahi woh sahi. Thank you for your continued support for Raees. Love you all” Dholakia tweeted earlier today.
Official statement from Shah Rukh Khan, Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar “t was not an easy decision to move the film. We understand that this film is highly anticipated. However, a movie of such magnitude requires the appropriate showcasing and therefore, we have decided to shift our release date to 26th January 2017.”

Now that the release date is confirmed, one of Shah Rukh Khan’s most promising films will be ‘too old’ when it releases in theatres. The film will hit screens nearly 19-20 months after the teaser, which was unveiled back in July last year.
Moreover, while the clash with Sultan has been averted, it sets up yet another clash with two other films. Hrithik might move, but Ajay Devgn is known to be stubborn with his release dates.
If yet another clash is what you want, why move from Eid? If your film is not ready, it would probably be a better decision to occupy the Diwali or Christmas weekend. Those two dates can accommodate two big films, but that won’t be the case with Republic Day weekend next year.
Why did they let go of the ‘Bakrid’ weekend, which falls in the second week of September? It was a 4-day weekend and a perfect time to release a film like ‘Raees’. It was their own film ‘Baar Baar Dekho’ (Excel and Dharma) which is scheduled to release during that weekend and ‘Raees’ being the bigger film could have arrived on September 9.
Are yaar.26 Jan 2017 is very very far..why can’t they release it this year..way do they need a holiday? Shahrukh Khan is big enough a star to guarantee an opening even on a non holiday so why are they setting up clashes with other films…?release it on 23rd September and prove to the world that you still can give a major blockbuster without a festive period..come on miyan bhai this is the time to show the daring..announce a non holiday release later this year..

Here is a bottom line with RAEES
Ritesh-Farhan-SRK saw the rushes of RAEES in their last 5 hour meeting. They are probably not at all satistifed with end product. A reason why Sunny Leone “laila o laila” item song is forcefully inserted to make it commercially viable.
Here is a real question. Why is SRK so extremely quiet? Why does he not care about his fans that love him world over? why such insecurity about his film? Why are trash like Ritesh-Farhan man-handling his public image such poorly? If Mahira Khan turns out to be poor casting. Re-shoot all the scenes in a months time with lead actress asap and release it on Sept EID!
SRK needs to learn from SALMAN asap. READY, JAI HO, DABANGG 2 etc etc were extremely poor movies but never moved from release date. If your product is very poor. Release it on major holiday with clash. It will cross 150 Crore easily.
SRK has completely surrendered his superstardom to Salman and Aamir imo. He has now become a joke with RAEES insecure uncertainty!
It is more like “Banye ka Darna. Aur Miya bhai ka Bhaagna” or “Darrpok aur Bhaagoda dono bhai” is what RAEES movie has become.
RAEES is now on its way to becoming Major FLOP! not even 50 Cr at BO.

By just postponing Raees they would write flop over it. By postpining to Jan 17, they wrote disaster over it. They should have delayed it by only a month or 2

@ xzone, dont cry dear, karma is a bitch for u and others. We should just wish well for our icon rather than spreading negativities against much bigger stars like aamir and salman. Because they are ruling the industry. Yes,the only place where our Idol rules is twitter, online polls, BBC’s love, CNN’s love, Hearts of overseas audience (including me) and so on. But aamir and salman are box office rulers, so we should respect them. Anyways, glad that our sensible idol took nice step to avoid clash.

I think the trend is gonna be quite similar.
Raees will open disastrously just like MAMK and end up as a disaster. Maximum 35 cr lifetime.
The real war will be between Kaabil and Badshaoo.
Kaabil will get an outstanding opening just like Blue and Baadshao an average opening just like ATB. But lifetime will dependent on wom.
