Raees officially moves out of Eid weekend

It’s official. Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees, which was first announced for Eid in February last year, has moved out of the lucrative festive weekend. Salman Khan’s Sultan will now get a solo release during what happens to be his most successful release period.

Producer Ritesh Sidhwani confirmed the news of Raees getting postponed.

“It was not an easy decision to move the film. We understand that our movie is highly anticipated. However, a film of such magnitude requires appropriate showcasing. Therefore, we have decided to shift our release date” Sidhwani said.

Starring Shah Rukh Khan, Mahira Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Raees has been indefinitely postponed to a later date.

Raees Release Timeline:

  • February 2015: Raees is announced for Eid 2016.
  • 10 April 2015: Raees goes on floors.
  • 22 April 2015: Shah Rukh Khan joins the cast and crew
  • June 23 2015: Yash Raj Films announces Sultan starring Salman Khan in the lead. Release date sends shock waves, sets up what’s touted as the ‘mother of all clashes’ between Shah Rukh and Salman.
  • June 23 2015: Amidst rumours of Raees moving to a later date, Ritesh Sidhwani tweets “Speculation on #Raees release date! It all ends this Eid”
  • June 24 2015: A day later, posts yet another tweet clarifying the release date “My timeline tells me a lot of confusion on my last tweet about #Raees release date. Let me clarify. We had announced in February that we will be releasing our film on EID 2016 & we are on schedule to release it as planned #RaeesOnEid2016” Also announces a surprise for Raees fans “And a little surprise for all #Raees fans this EID.. chalo ho Gaya sab confusion clear”
  • July 16 2015: Raees Teaser is released, wins universal appreciation
  • Media goes crazy over the clash. We write the most detailed article, which has received more than 15 lakh views till date.
  • December 2015: A lot is riding on the Bajirao Mastani vs Dilwale clash. Shah Rukh Khan is the king of clashes, no one (media and trade) gives Bajirao Mastani and Sanjay Leela Bhansali a chance. They all know what happened to SLB the last time he decided to take on SRK.
  • December 21 2015: With content overpowering superstardom, Bajirao Mastani betters Dilwale at the domestic box office. This sends shockwaves in the industry, yet again. Rumours of Raees moving out of Eid get stronger in the trade.
  • February 12 2016: A well-known trade analysts tweets that Raees has moved from Eid. Ritesh Sidhwani once again clarifies and rubbishes the rumours “Some people spreading Rumours about #Raees release being moved.. Like I said RUMOURS”
  • April 2016: Shah Rukh Khan’s FAN releases in theatres, opens well but crashes on Monday. Finishes with lifetime domestic business of less than 85 crore. The failure of the film once again sends shockwaves. Trade wants Sultan for Eid, exhibitors at mass centres firmly in favour of the Salman Khan starrer too. Raees releasing just 3 months after FAN isn’t a great idea from a producer’s point of view either. Clash almost certain to be averted, which is confirmed in almost every QnA session here on Indicine.
  • May 3 2016: Things get ugly on Wikipedia between Shah Rukh and Salman fans (check tweets and screenshots below). The delay in either confirming the date or announcing that the film has moved to a different date, is now beginning to hurt both films – especially Raees.
  • May 3 2016 8PM: On the same day, Ritesh Sidhwani confirms that Raees won’t release during Eid.

  • After Performance of Dilwale and Fan and looking at the golden phase of salman it is very good business decison. It will good statergy to move rees now rees is also in the race of HG.very good decison by Rees team….

  • @PK, why should Salman clash with Aamir without any reason? If Salman has to release his films in XMas in the future, he will definitely do it. It is business.
I know you are a chameleon. Thats why I am not giving u a hard hitting reply..

  • It clearly mean that raees is not a great movie..may be average.

Now people may not be interested watching raees..another disappointment for srk..

  • these srk’s krk fans won’t be straight. they always want somehow amir and Salman fans bash each other but get defeated everytime.

  • Hey SRK fans don’t be a sour pusses over the postponement of Raees because we told you guys more than a month ago when FAN was declared a flop that no way SRK would release Raees at Eid and an excuse will be given. He was well aware that SULTAN was announced that it would release at Eid and he thought that he would have some sort of leverage because he thinks too much of himself. After two flops he could not afford to take a chance of coming up against Salman at Eid because until Salman brought his films at Eid it was not really a lucrative time, go check the facts. You guys put too much emphasis on box office figures but my question if you are truly a fan you would love their movies regardless, what I might like you might not, because people are different, each have what they like in life and what they don’t.
I can guarantee you that if one does a survey of Dilwale and Fan you will discover that only about 30% of SRK fans watch the movie in theaters. Whereas when a Salman movie releases most fans go even in but once to watch in theaters, that’s the difference, most of you SRK fans are not loyal,
let your disappointment become an appointment for something better.
I don’t mean to gloat but I am glad this has happen simply because it will teach @xzone and Fasal Kerala that vindictiveness will never work. The one SRK that I have sympathy for is @Challa but had he listen to what I told him more than a year ago he would have prepared himself for this disappointment. Anyway you can look forward to January 2017 or later for Raees.

  • Sultan deserves a clash with the other real titan Kabali … thats a match of equals in their own right …. not a lop sided clash with Raees which inspite being a good movie would have been washed out …. more POWER to SULTAN

  • @Javed, reading your comments make me sick. Such a venomous person you are!
If I were in your place or Salman were in SRK’s place, we would never bash Salman like the way you are doing now.

One question to fans like you:
Why don’t you guys go to theatres and watch his films rather than showing your supports to him here on Indicine or twitter?

  • this is team raees decision so why everyone including srk fans bashing srk?
because they never give his success credit to yrf and dharma.

  • Now where is this beggar @floppy hiding. I always knew that he is an SRK fan by the way he glorified SRK and wrote cheap stuff about Akshay right since the article ‘The Jungle Book set to beat Airlift’.

Look at your srgay, how he is running away from Salman. Before Fan and Dilwale he seemed so confident about the clash and after this disaster film the so called Global King got scared of releasing his film with another superstar.

On the other hand, Akki announced Rustom clashing with Mohenjodaro after the debacle of Brothers.

That shows the aukaat of Akshay and your Duniya ka sabse bada superstar. Now tell who has to beg on streets. Don’t even dare to write anything cheap about Akshay from next time as after this incident everyone understood what is your Global King’s aukaat.

  • 2016 bhi gaya …srk sir ke liye …hgoty…na he bb..na he atbb…hath khalli laga baba ji ka thullu..fan 85 cr..!! Verdict ..flop ke sath.
    !! Sir 227cr kab tootegA..!!

  • @Yuvraaj the biggest disaster of last decade (released in 208), dont you idio have any shame? Listen bhojpuri, i have kept myself calm as much as i can, but your pathetic reatrdism is pissing me off. Whenever aamir will celebrate with salman, aamir will win by big margin. Aamir can announce his film whenever he wants because he is the baap of bollywood and biggest megastar of the country.

@Anand, same way, aamir can also release his film on eid if he wants, no one can stop him.

  • Where is @Fasal who was consistently chanting about Eid release? @Romance also got a taste of their own medicine.

Miyan bhai ki daring gayi tel lene !!!!!!!!

  • @ Raees Khan – dabbang2 ,ready, jai ho were not released on eid and still manages to earn big moolah and all are 100 + grossers….infact ready is the biggest non holiday grossers od that time…pls update ur self..srk is over now time to retire

  • I’m really disappointed.. I want the clash..May Sultan will lose some collection due to clash I wanna see srk’s retirement from Bollywood.. btw Sultan is undoubtedly hgoty 2016

  • These hardcore jabra fanbase hardly go to theatres to watch his films but rather wait to watch online. That’s why Dilwale lost to BM & FAN flopped big time. And they are shouting against his decision. Lol.

@Legend Khan, Ha ha ha.. Lol. Good idea! They rather telecast it on TV rather than releasing it in theatres..

  • @Challa & @ANKIT & @yy mithaiwala, always loved reading your comments though you sometimes post hatred comments towards Salman being SRK fans.
Because you guys, I still have a little bit trust in your fanbase.
But Javed has never been a real SRK fan. He is just a person with inflated ego who just happened to like SRK by chance!

  • salman is not capable of releasing his flims some other time so people stop saying against KING OF BOLLYWOOD Shah Rukh Khan there is no other superstar in the world like SRK, Love you so much he has to sacrifice this date for his family friend aditya chopra too.

  • Both the audience, trade and exhibitors knows Salman won’t dissapoint them on Eid.I really feel sorry for both Farhan and Ritesh who thought Sultan will back down or had a chance against Sultan,no one can compete with Salman at single screens i mean NO ONE AT ALL.
    CLASH WITH SULTAN IS SUICIDE

  • SRK sacrifices eid slot for Salman Khan. But this sacrifice should have been done by Salman.

  • salman khan is scared of our global superstar, King of bollywood Shah Ruk khan. salman he has no guts to release his flims other than EID what a shame childish act.

  • @Abhay Malhotra, Of course, Aamir too can release his films on Eid. No one stop him.
Don’t be rude. Got that? But I still wonder why you never utter anything against SRK though you claim to be an Aamir fan.
Something is fishy and @Rew1 is right about u.
