It’s official. Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees, which was first announced for Eid in February last year, has moved out of the lucrative festive weekend. Salman Khan’s Sultan will now get a solo release during what happens to be his most successful release period.
Producer Ritesh Sidhwani confirmed the news of Raees getting postponed.
“It was not an easy decision to move the film. We understand that our movie is highly anticipated. However, a film of such magnitude requires appropriate showcasing. Therefore, we have decided to shift our release date” Sidhwani said.
Starring Shah Rukh Khan, Mahira Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Raees has been indefinitely postponed to a later date.

- December 2015: A lot is riding on the Bajirao Mastani vs Dilwale clash. Shah Rukh Khan is the king of clashes, no one (media and trade) gives Bajirao Mastani and Sanjay Leela Bhansali a chance. They all know what happened to SLB the last time he decided to take on SRK.
- December 21 2015: With content overpowering superstardom, Bajirao Mastani betters Dilwale at the domestic box office. This sends shockwaves in the industry, yet again. Rumours of Raees moving out of Eid get stronger in the trade.

- April 2016: Shah Rukh Khan’s FAN releases in theatres, opens well but crashes on Monday. Finishes with lifetime domestic business of less than 85 crore. The failure of the film once again sends shockwaves. Trade wants Sultan for Eid, exhibitors at mass centres firmly in favour of the Salman Khan starrer too. Raees was my second most awaited film of this year and it is disappointing to see that it has postponed because I wanted to watch it as soon as possible ..but nevertheless whenever it arrives I am going to watch it on first day first show…infact ever since Fan flopped at the box office I wanted Shahrukh Khan to release any of his upcoming films in non-holiday to prove that he still has it in him so if is actually a golden opportunity for Shahrukh Khan now to do what he does best…I want Raees to release on a completely non holiday weekend so that Shahrukh Khan delivers a major blockbuster without the support of big festivals..I want Shahrukh Khan to do what Shahrukh Khan does..
My pick for Raees release date is 23rd September….
By the time 23rd September arrives Mohenjadaro, rustom and the flying jatt will be coming to the end of their respective runs..Also,if Ms dhoni biopic receives extraordinary response 3 good weeks will be enough for it to do maximin business..then we have excel’s own baar baat Dekho in 9th and not much is expected from this film..on 30th September we have another multiplex oriented film Rangoon which will have a limited appeal..
So all said and done,between independence day weekend and Diwali weekend,Raees might be the only universally appealing film to release in between these periods so it will have the potential to put up seriously huge numbers of course if the content is appreciated..
All the best team Raees, and all the best Shahrukh sir..I hope u come on 23rd Sept and prove all the naysayers wrong…

RAEES teaser was announed as EID 2016.
If your product is completely ready, you must release it. EID is a huge celebration. Everyone comes out masses, fans, neutral audiences, family audiences to watch something in cinemas after 1 month of abandoning cinema going.
EID creates hungry, entertainment craving audiences. RAEES made a huge massive mistake by pulling out.
Instead, it should have been released on July 03 on Sunday!

Now it should release on Id-Ul-Azha as it’s a very good release date. If movie becomes blockbuster then Id-Ul-Azha too may become lucrative festive weekend like Id-Ul-Fitr to release movies.
Like Salman’s blockbuster era started with Dabangg on Id-Ul-Fitr, I wish SRK’s streak of blockbuster may start with Raees on Id-Ul-Azha.
