Ra One is by far the biggest release of the year and also the most-hyped. If we’d have to pick one film this year that has decent chances of going past the 200-crore benchmark set by 3 Idiots – it has to be Ra One.
Some might argue that Don 2 also has a great chance as its a Christmas release and 3 Idiots too released on the same date. But, being an out-n-out action film it has to be outstandingly good to come close. Also, Don 2 releases on Friday unlike Ra One which will benefit immensely from the extended 5 day weekend.
Recently, many expected Bodyguard to go past 3 Idiots and although the film opened to huge numbers, the word-of-mouth was mixed (negative at places). The result? 110 crores in Week 1 (9 days), but after that the Salman Khan starrer managed less than 35 crores in Week 2, 3 and 4.
What further dented Bodyguard’s collections was the release of Mere Brother Ki Dulhan a week later. Luckily for Ra One, it has 2 open weeks. Ranbir Kapoor’s Rockstar, the first major release after Ra One releases 16 days later.
Come 26th October, it’ll be interesting to see if Ra One can beat 3 Idiots at the Indian box office. If it does, SRK will once again be hailed as the undisputed King of the Hindi film industry.

What undisputed King? Earlier Hrithik’s movies were outgrossing SRK’s films – Koi Mil Gaya, Kaho Na Pyar Hai, Dhoom 2 , Krissh in years 2000, 2003, 2006. Later Aamir and Salman ruled from 2008-2010. Even Ajay’s Golmaal 3 and Singham are much bigger grossers than RNBDJ and MNIK (in India for MNIK) – both 100 crore films.
In 90s also, all Salman’s films outgrossed SRK’s films in 1999, 1996 Aamir gave ATBB in Raja Hindustani while SRK gave flops, in 1994 Salman owned with HAHK (which is the biggest hit of 90s), in 1997 Sunny’s Border was the biggest hit of the year, 1991’s biggest hit is Saajan, 1992’s biggest hit is Beta, biggest hit of 1993 is Aankhen and for 1990 it is Aamir’s Dil. Biggest hit of 1989 and ATBB is Salman’s MPK. Biggest hit of 2000 is Hrithik’s KNPH. And Gadar swept away box office in 2001.
Every other star from Sunny Deol to Salman has given bigger hits in many years. SRK had only 1995, 1998, 2002, 2004 and 2007 in which no other star’s films outgrossed his films and his films were biggest hit of the year. So what’s the deal with the word ”undisputed”? Salman has more ATBBs than him!
He is undisputed only overseas. Not in India.
It does not matter if Ra 1 does 400 crores plus as 3 Idiots had already gone past 425 crores worldwide gross in 2010 itself. Economic Times, Times of India, Indiatimes, Financial Express all reported about it. It is still running in countries like Taiwan, Hong Kong and South Korea till date, setting new records in these countries.
No big deal about Ra 1. He is neither going to be first actor to give 100 crore grosser nor the first one to give 200 crore grosser. The first one to achieve these feats was Aamir. The first one to give back to back 100 crore+ grossers was Aamir. First one to give hattrick of 100 crore+ films is Salman.
SRK will only catch up with Aamir and Salman if any of his films do 100 crore or 200 crore. No special or unheard of feat, unlike it was at the time of Ghajini and 3 Idiots!

past the total gross of Shahrukh Khan movies like My name is khan which has earn more than Three Idiots in overseas and others lack consistancy of giving back to back hits like Shahrukh he is truly undisputed king you can see in Boxofficeindia for details and he always does a world class movie rather than masala now Ra.one surely beat every record because it has everything for every one from children to old age you just wait and watch.
No doubt Ra.one and Don 2 will beat Bodyguard, Dabangg, 3 Idiots, My Name Is Khan. And will make a record untill next SRK’s release.

the hype of ra one overshadows 3 idiots thereore will do extremely well, the concept behind it will draw people to it but after a while will die down . watched it loved the visual effect but the middle didn’t get my adreline pumping and the end a little bit muddled up, an okay film but not his very best performance. well advise everyone to go and watch it just to have the experience

well according to the critics may ra.one will be a big flop but as per the theaters are filling up many critics are wrong most probably about 250 to 300 crore is the minimum amount that can be grossed……but maximum 400 crore as it is a movie that is released all over the world
