Ra One Review
Ra One has been a huge part of our lives over the last few months, the build-up to Shahrukh Khan’s most ambitious movie ever has been huge. All of it finally comes to an end today with it’s theatrical release.
With the way it was marketed, the expectations from Ra One was unbelievably high. Quite frankly, that’s not always such a good thing. With sky-high expectations, the risk of disappointing the audience is quite high too.
Unfortunately, Ra One disappoints. We genuinely wanted to like the film, but apart from the 30 odd minutes in the second half, there is nothing that touches you and absolutely nothing that creates the kind of adrenaline-rush that good superhero films should.
What works for Ra One
The best thing about Ra One is Kareena Kapoor. The actress looks stunning, oozing sensuality in two fantastic songs – Criminal and Chammak Challo. When it comes to on-screen histrionics, not many actresses in the industry come close to Kareena and she proves that yet again in Ra One. It has to be one of her most likable performances since Jab We Met.
Tremendous amount of work has gone into making Ra One the most technologically advanced film in India and it’s evident in every scene. Both the visual and sound effects are outstanding. Not close to Hollywood standards, but for the budget that the film has been made on, it’s brilliant!
Why Ra One disappoints
In short, Ra One lacks soul. There are three important tracks in the movie; One, the love story between Kareena and G.One. Two, the relationship between Shekhar (later G.One) and his son. And finally, the good vs bad rivalry between G.One and R.One. None of them work, you simply do not feel for any of the characters. (*Spoiler alert – Do not read if you haven’t watched the film* There were people in the theater laughing when Shekhar Subramanium dies, which is just one example of the movie not connecting with the audience)
The first half is mediocre, the second half starts off well but scenes leading to the climax are bad. Ra One also reminds you of the Hollywood classic, Terminator 2.
The special appearances by Sanjay Dutt, Priyanka Chopra and Rajnikanth add to the star value, but both sequences fail to make any impact.
Performances
Shahrukh Khan is good as G.One, but as Shekhar Subramanium he tends to overact. Kareena was brilliant. Arjun Rampal was good, but has a shorter than expected role. Armaan Verma who plays SRK’s son, does a decent job. All the other actors including Shahana Goswami, Satish Shah and Dalip Tahil are wasted.
To sum things up
Considering the years of hard work and money that has gone into the making, it hurts to say this – Ra One had immense potential to be a very good film, but it isn’t. Not even close. The biggest flaw is the script and the direction.

i don’t know why r u comparing salman n srk n not including aamir.in my opinion,it does not matter how the movie performs at the box office,the thing which matters the most is the story,the acting and above all weather the audience is happy or not….if u talk in that respect then aamir khan is waaaaaayyyyyy ahead of srk n salman.

Ra.One has collected around 14-15 crore nett on its first day as per early estimates. The collections are only for its Hindi version and regional version may have added around 1 crore nett.
It may turn out to be the second or third highest first day ever but around 30% less than the record of Bodyguard which released 2 months back comparing like and like and just its Hindi version.
It is a good collection considering Diwali Puja but even with huge the craze and hype, Diwali Puja affected it like any other film released over the years.

The collections fell from 1pm yesterday at most places and did not really recover with festivities on. South India has fared best comparatively while in North India the first day collections are lower than Ready and Yamla Pagla Deewana as well as Bodyguard for the films released in 2011.
And if we add regional’s collections, the exact figure is 18.25 crores. It’s really really heartbreaking. It was affected by something which usually has nothing to do with Cinema- Diwali Puja! Sad! According to Boxofficeindia, opening was 100% everywhere but Delhi, Punjab, UP and MP were hit hard by Diwali Puja as the film went as low as 25% for some shows in these regions and even after Diwali collections were no way near the morning levels.
SRK was advised to release it on Thursday. He knew Diwali Puja might affect the wave. But really he is an amazing planner. He released it on very day of Diwali, got affected…And now better a 5-Day weekend might help a bit in revenues. Many trade analysts already said that not sure Ra.One would break Day-1 record or not but it would surely thrash opening weekend and opening week records of Bodyguard. The very day after Diwali is used to meet, greet and have fun. Nothing like Puja effect today! And as Taran Adrash tweeted that Thursday going to be humongous. Big holiday! Expecting to be 30% to 50% bigger than Wednesday.
No worry! If SRK released it on Thursday, he would get a 4-day weekend and that 4-Day weekend eventually could stop him to break opening weekend and opening week records despite it might break opening day record in Diwali Puja’s absence then……Kabhi kabhi kuch jeetne ke liye kuch harna bhi padta hai. Aur har kar jeetne walon ko Baazigar kehte hain……Phle 1 record break hota, 2 bach jate! Ab 1 bach gya, lekin 2 tuttenge! Satisfactory!
To all other people(Salman/Aamir fans etc..), Celebrating the fact that Ra one couldn’t break Day-1 record of Bodyguard due to Diwali Puja, is like celebrating when another man gives your lady an orgasm just because you can’t do it! LOL….Somebody got it?:D

Guys! Stop comparing Ra.One with Bodyguard. They are different films. Bodyguard had only promised some heart-warming entertainments which Bodyguard exactly carried out. I am not saying Bodyguard is better than Ra.One is. But the problems with Ra.One is that it had promised too much to the audiences and failed to deliver to people’s expectations. If Bodyguard is said senseless, they have to carefully analyse Ra.One whether they can find any sense in Ra.One. Yes, it can’t be denied that the visual effects in Ra.One are simply brilliant but it can’t conceal the flaws in its directions, scripts and dialogues.

Ra.One has run riot on thirsday across the country. Yesterday it started like a runaway train but hit a block in the form of Diwali puja but today it started in the same way but no block.
The film is recording full houses at multiplexes and single screens across the country. If North India was slow after 1pm yesterday, today it is shattering all records. On Wednesday, only three circuit records were made for the first day but today it is likely that it will record the highest all time collections single day collections in almost every circuit of India.
Yesterday it was almost certain around 7pm that it will not beat the first day record and today around 7pm it is certain that it will be recording the biggest day in history just a question of how far ahead it goes of the 20.60 crore nett record.

No, certainly not… bt yes, th movie is a visual treat nd smewat succeeds in SRKs dream of transformin th style of Bollywood movies nd settin a benchmark in th use of technlogy in bolywud …
Bt why does it nt wrk?
It talks abt a Superhero wid a HART, bt it is a movie widout a Soul.. Major weaknes is th direction, cmbind wid weak story, pathetic dialogus, ineffectiv cameos, leading 2 th wastage of a mammoth effort whch wud hv been brilliant if sme crtical elements of film-making wer rememberd along wid nevr b4 seen large number of VFX effects in Hindi Cinema..

Wat u manage 2 remembr abt th movie is th Grand Entry of G.One met wid a huge applause, sme gud 3D visuals, Chammak Challo, few well designd stunts espcaly th chase sequence,beautiful cinematography nd picturisation but nthng else.
Talking abt performances, Arjun Rampal aka RaOne does not impress too much in his short appearance. Master Armaan is also ineffective.. Yet Kareena is ok nd ShahRukh does manage 2 carry th entire film bt wid such ineffective direction, one cant expect theim 2 b at best.
The bottom line is tht Ra.One is certainly worth watching if u want 2 feel th new waves of change in Bollywood in terms of visual effects nd technology but as an overalll movie nd tht too of ShahRukh, it does disappoint u.
A WORD 2 SRK FANS : guys,, no need 2 get panic by abv review,, movie wud not bear ny losses, thanks 2 th diwali season and sme innovative nd incredible marketing by MIGHTY KING.. but yeah we do agree tht we want a better movie by SRK which may not break all records but wud be wid a heart nd soul.
PS: Though th movie willnt be rememberd 4 a long tym, special credit must be given 2 SRK who even dreamt 2 attempt sch a grand movie nd has paved th way for future films in India which can learn frm th mistakes he did in while bringing a change 2 way movies r made in India. I saw the movie in US. Complete waiste of time and money. Not an entertainer as OSO. Some dialouges not good for kids. Cheapness abundant. I like SRK, but he is now a falling star

Suresh: Aamir doesn’t compete with anybody and please dont compare SRK with Aamir. Aamir is in his own league. He makes film wher even SRK fans like them. He makes a film with a message to the society also he makes entertainer without mesage. But his films have connections and stories. Ra one is working only because of Visual effects nothing else. Aamir is way ahead and he will be the GOD of Acting.
Very correct review! I have wasted my 3 hours along with my friend for this movie. Bollywood is still a far far away from hollywood as shown after this movie. I have never seen SRK in working with such a flawless script. Its a totally disappointment for SRK and his fans.
I watched this movie and loved it. It is the best bollywood has done at science fiction. To think that some one in india thought of this concept and also made it look great on screen is a fantastic job on its own. You will enjoy the movie as long as you do not start thinking exactly how the technology works, just know it is fiction. I think this movie was not about emotion but imagination. I will give it 4 stars and would want all my friends to watch it. I did not like village movies like dabang which i could not connect to at all, bodyguard was a sweet movie….but ra one is very interesting. It is not a family drama full of tears because it is for kids….go watch it and enjoy it, not many indian directors will attempt to make such a movie so don’t miss it

Ra-one is a superb movie….animations are really awesome…Bodyguard is nothing to RA.ONE….SRK has done a super job in this film.
The film has created history by taking over the mantle of the biggest domestic earner so far. Ra.One, Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan’s most ambitious project to date. It has touched the highest individual collection in circuits such as Mumbai, Delhi, Punjab and Rajasthan. It should be a matter of pride for us to get to watch such an action packed & science fiction movie with great excellence. 4 stars for this 1.
The graphics are commendable. I think people in bollywood do not understand by the word ‘Cult Films’. Ra.One is one such Cult Film which has changed the perspective of Bollywood. Thank you SRK and the visual effects of his to make such an awesome film. If you haven’t seen this, you’re definitely missing the Big.One.
