Most successful Bollywood Actors: 2000 – 2009

This is a question that gets asked quite frequently in the weekly ‘Ask Indicine’ Question and Answer session. So to end the debate once and for all, we analyse the Top 6 most successful actors in the last decade.

Most number of films:

  • Akshay Kumar – 42 films
  • Ajay Devgn – 39 films
  • Salman Khan – 32 films
  • Shah Rukh Khan – 21 films
  • Hrithik Roshan – 14 films
  • Aamir Khan – 9 films

Total Net Collections for each actor between 2000 – 2009:

  • Akshay Kumar - 983 crore
  • Shah Rukh Khan - 678 crore
  • Aamir Khan - 585 crore
  • Salman Khan - 581 crore
  • Ajay Devgn - 557 crore
  • Hrithik Roshan - 481 crore

Average net box office collections per film between 2000 – 2009

  • Aamir Khan – 65 crore
  • Hrithik Roshan - 34.35 crore
  • Shah Rukh Khan - 32.29 crore
  • Akshay Kumar - 23.40 crore
  • Salman Khan - 18.15 crore
  • Ajay Devgn – 14.28 crore

Success Ratio i.e Above Average or better  (probably the most important, because it’s the percentage of films that recovered investment)

  • Aamir Khan – 78%
  • Shah Rukh Khan - 67%
  • Hrithik Roshan - 43%
  • Akshay Kumar - 36%
  • Salman Khan – 31%
  • Ajay Devgn - 13%

Hit Ratio i.e Hit or Better

  • Aamir Khan – 67%
  • Shah Rukh Khan – 57%
  • Hrithik Roshan - 43%
  • Akshay Kumar - 26%
  • Salman Khan – 19%
  • Ajay Devgn - 10%

In conclusion, when it comes to Top 3 actors of the previous decade, it’s between Aamir, SRK, Hrithik and Akshay.

Shah Rukh maintained a very high success and hit ratio throughout the decade, even though he has featured in more than twice the number of films as Aamir.

Aamir’s stature and box office total grew quite significantly towards the end of the decade because of films like Ghajini and 3 Idiots. He didn’t have a release for four years between Dil Chahta Hai (August 2001) and Mangal Pandey (August 2005).

Salman was inconsistent, many of his films were huge disasters. As a solo star, he didn’t have much to show apart from a few films like No Entry, Partner, Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya and Wanted.

Akshay enjoyed the best phase of his career in 2006 and 2007, when he delivered several back-to-back hit films. He tops the ‘total net collections’ for the decade. His average per film and success ratio isn’t too bad either.

Hrithik Roshan went through a career low after a stellar start to his career, but made a comeback and remained consistent after Koi Mil Gaya.

Ajay Devgn was poor throughout. Both his success and hit ratio were well below 15%. His hits were Bhoot, Masti, Golmaal and Golmaal Returns.

  • 2000-2005 its only srk..
    2006 -its hrithik and srk
    2007-its akshay kumar and srk
    2008- its aamir and srk
    2009 -its aamir only…..

  • Btw did I read someone was having a success ratio of 30% despite of doing 30+ movies in last decade??? :P

May be, I have gone nuts and and perhaps that’s the reason, I’m seeing such an unrealistic data in this article.
Because as far as I know, this could not be the statistics of a megastar.
Yes, if this was the statistics of Rajpal yadav, then I would have accepted for an instance.
But megastar of millennium, with 30% of success ratio???
    Not acceptable at all.

  • @Anand…

That’s the aim… Simple as that that’s why I won’t bother reading d article again or coming back to read comments… That period too was Ajays low phases though with movies like Raincoat, Halla bol, Deewangee, Kaal,Gangajal, Omkara, Tlobs, yuva, lajja, Apaharan.. he chose it and for us he did justice to all of those non commercial movies..
    Qayamat,Apaharan, All d best… Average only on your site….

Anyways let d selected fan groups enjoy..

You have to do d same now for 90s and 2010s… To be just not bias.. Funny People

  • This article is a solid proof of that “a certain actor and his chichora fans” are born only after 2009.

  • It is clear that even just with 9 films aamir’s films has so much collection. But here people have only comments favouring their actors. So 2000-2009 is completely belongs to aamir khan.

  • /*
Salman was inconsistent, many of his films were huge disasters. As a solo star, he didn’t have much to show apart from a few films like No Entry, Partner, Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya and Wanted.
    */

    Disastrous…???
    Please check your facts.
His movies were still collecting more than the movies of Rajpal yadav, Chunky Pandey, Asarani etc.

He was still in top 10 (from the bottom).

  • I wonder there is not even a single mention about the legendary and land mark films of last decade in terms of BO.
    Disappointing article!
Salman Khan is the biggest superstar today because of his Blockbusters of this decade! Do you think he would have been regarded as biggest with small hits rather than Blockbusters?

  • /*
Shah Rukh maintained a very high success and hit ratio throughout the decade, even though he has featured in more than twice the number of films as Aamir.
    */

Non-actor fans : Get this text printed, roll it and put it in your “….”.
    You know what I mean?

  • 2000-2009 decade is ruled by Shahrukh Khan,no doubt.although aamir khan has both higher success ratio and hit ratio but he only done 9 films in this period.also, akshay’s films collection was highest among all but he also done 42 films.also, aamir Khan ruled in 2008-09 with ghajini and 3 idiots.Hrithik also has 3 Hgoty in that period.

  • Michael hussey better average than Sachin Tendulkar because of less matches ,but still Sachin Will count as bigger because of far more runs. Same akshay will be count ahead of hrithik and amir….

  • Then these chichora auto-drivers compare their disastrous star with the might of SRK.
One or two films will not change the status of King you fools.
For you all, success of your idol is new (as he was struggling in last decade) , so you are clueless how to handle and celebrate this “accidental” stardom and success.
But for us, it’s a habit as we are experiencing this since last two decades.
That’s the different between a king fan and an auto-driver.

  • Srk’s all films are belong to multistarer. So he is not deserve the decade 2000-2009.

Decade 2000-2009 is belong to Aamir and Hrithik, because they gave solo blockbusters through out the decade 2000-2009.

    Decade 1990-1999 – Salman

    Decade 2000-2009 – Aamir

    Decade 2010-2019 – Salman

  • Article is of no use…if u consider starting 5years of each actor then akshay will come below sunil shetty….indicine is a big hater of ajay sir..they never take questions related2 ajay sir..always take questions on other stars…many times many people requested to make article on best actor in terms of acting…if by mistake indicine makes an article on acting they will place ajay sir last instead of first…indicine never praised ajay sir ….INDICINE IS A AJAY SIR HATER

    • @Ajay-Salman fan, no point complaining. Argue with valid points, the success and hit ratio is in front of you. Box office doesn’t lie.

If Shivaay does well, wins on opening day and/or lifetime business against Ae Dil, we’ll be the first to praise him.

  • Yes Darling @Aisha Ajay was doing experiments in this phase by doing small roles in movies like Tarzan -the wonder car, masti, kaal,Insaan and many more

And 2 minutes of silence for @AISHA Who is thinking deep in her mind that ajay will come in top 5 In similar kind of article from 2010 to 2016 .. plz Do Make an article on this Also Indicine so her doubts gets clear _/\_

    Amir> salman>srk>Hrithik>Akshay/Ranbir> Ajay from 2010 to 2016 . ?

  • Hrithik Roshan ‘s Blockbusters
    1, Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai
    2, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham
    3, Koi Mil Gaya
    4, Krrish
    5, Dhoom:2

    Srk’s Blockbusters
    1, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham
    2, Chak De India
    3, Om Shanti Om
4, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi

    Aamir’s Blockbusters
    1, Ghajini
    2, 3 Idiots

So the years belongs to one and only HRITHIK ROSHAN

Maximum number of Blockbusters is far better than than Ratio of anything because some box office verdicts are given by worldwide collection which is completely baseless when you are not success in Domestic Market !!!

Decade belongs to HRITHIK first then to other

  • Rather than total collections I would love to see an article on the opening collections of all these films of all these superstars….but on the other hand what matters is ‘present’. Half of the current decade is gone by so we should focus on this decade rather than past achievements..we all know who ruled the past…what future holds, seems to be more interesting..

  • We (Salman Fans) never deny this that from 2002-2008 Salman was in bad phase…..

Indicine make this article just to please few SrGay and Gobar Fans….so kush ho jayo….

Indicine hope you make an article on 90’s also, and please start from 1988 so that Aamir and Salman all movies will come under it…..and similiarly do for 2000-2015….Then it would be fair…Please do it..

  • @Babaji ka thullu; Not everyone is free like you, we have work to do, not like you who sit all time in front of Indicine website and keep refreshing it….

  • Why only 6 actors. There should be top 10 actors. Shahid kapoor also deserve in the list. Till 2009 his career is going to very good but decline after that. ( 2010-2012). From 2003-2009 he has 6 successful films, 1average film and 7 flops out of 14 films.
    Ish visk- hit
    36 China town-semi hit
    Chip chip ke-above average
    vivha- blockbuster
    Jab we met-hit
    kaminey-hit

Saif, emraan, John and abhishek also deserve in the top 10 list. Ranbir is just new comers at that time. But why only top 6?

  • @sunny: dont over act…if u consider starting 10years of each actor then akshay will b below sunil shetty…..I respect akshay but akshay fans r making me2 bash him….first teach ur star acting…he can excel only in comedy…tell him2 cry once u will come2 know his acting ability

  • Why only for a particular time period??? Make an article analysing their whole career!

  • that decade belong to akki..maximum no of hits and alltime opening with sik… it was akki all the way… 5 back to back blockbusters from 2006-2008.
    unparalleled records from our kingg

  • @Anand : I am compelled to reply because I found few realistic data in your analysis. Still, let me know if you have conducted that analysis as a blind hater, I would rather ignore it.

Going forward, if that analysis has been conducted as a normal movie buff, then I must say this is heights of double standard.
Tere Naam was HIT? Bahgban is Sallu’s movie but not “Hello” ? Whereas Billu has been added in SRK’s list though entire story revolved around Irfan (just like Bhaghban was all about Amitabh-Hema and Salman had very least to do in it. He appeared in very few frames of that movie).

Going forward, All day and night you people call Farah Khan a crap director, but same Farah became successful for you (just because you wanted to degrade SRK) ? Didn’t you see the fate of her another venture “TMK”?

Bottom line of the conclusion is , SRK even in his bad phase (so called) has maintained a success ratio of more than 75% , whereas Salman was struggling like a newcomer in his bad phase.
Coming to golden phase, yes, Salman has given more number of BBs as compared to SRK, but then you see the list of movies. SRK experimented a lot with different genres in his best phase, but same is not the case with Salman. More or less, he relied on mindless masala movies or south remkaes (baring BB – Bajrangi Bhaijan not Bikini one).

And your last proclamation was more farcical …!
Salman was way ahead of SRK between 90-00 ? Where, in your dream ???
Even indicine has confirmed in one of QnA that SRK was way ahead of his contemporaries between 1995-2000.
And I don’t want to include the 1990-1995 period because he debuted only in 1992, so it will be unfair to include him in that timeline .

  • singh is king..welcome. .phir hera peri..namastey london..hey baby..bhool bhulaya..garam masala..dosti..mujshe shadi karogi..list goes on for our akki..that decade belong to akshay

  • And now non-actor fans are chanting about a comparison between 2010-2015.
Fool, that’s the essence of whole debate. No body is denying the fact that non-actor has dominated this particular timeline.
But after looking at his career graph during 2000-2009, one is compelled to assume that non-actor and his fans were born only after 2009.
    Data says it all.

  • Akshay Rocks Wow at he is self a film industry. Where is Lallu Sultan#Crimnal and again it Can’t cros 180 Cr.

  • Akshay’s 2007 record still remains unbeated. No superstar(among the current generation) has so far achieved that big tag.

Ajay had almost done it in 2010, but sadly Aakrosh and Toonpur ka Superhero turned out to be major disasters, struggling for double digits.
