In conclusion, when it comes to Top 3 actors of the previous decade, it’s between Aamir, SRK, Hrithik and Akshay.
Shah Rukh maintained a very high success and hit ratio throughout the decade, even though he has featured in more than twice the number of films as Aamir.
Aamir’s stature and box office total grew quite significantly towards the end of the decade because of films like Ghajini and 3 Idiots. He didn’t have a release for four years between Dil Chahta Hai (August 2001) and Mangal Pandey (August 2005).
Salman was inconsistent, many of his films were huge disasters. As a solo star, he didn’t have much to show apart from a few films like No Entry, Partner, Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya and Wanted.
Akshay enjoyed the best phase of his career in 2006 and 2007, when he delivered several back-to-back hit films. He tops the ‘total net collections’ for the decade. His average per film and success ratio isn’t too bad either.
Hrithik Roshan went through a career low after a stellar start to his career, but made a comeback and remained consistent after Koi Mil Gaya.
Ajay Devgn was poor throughout. Both his success and hit ratio were well below 15%. His hits were Bhoot, Masti, Golmaal and Golmaal Returns.

According to collection it’s Akki and according to success and hitit’s Aamir but still saving SRK shamelessly…. A Big Shame on you if SRK had done more film than Aamir then Akki also did more film than SRK so how can u say SRK was better than Aamir. if u r counting film ofSRK then count of akki too. if u r saying SRK bcz he did more than aamir then say akki better than srk bcz akkidid more than SRK. ok

When you are involved in serious personal & professional controversies and with legal issues hanging over your neck , poor public image portrayed by the media , with no real support from the top directors & banners then you are bound to do whatever films that come your way rather than you choosing which film you want to do , and when u do so mostly for friends and wellwishers without caring a damn about movie’s prospects , that’s when you experience what Salman has experienced during this dreadful phase.
And bcos of the above reasons he had flops, indeed more flops than some of his contemporaries , there’s no shame in loosing , indeed loosing is like sneezing – you can’t control it even if you want to, it can come at any time & at any moment without giving any proper warning or notice and going off before you realise it is all over and still worse even intentionally or unintentionally you can’t do anythinghing about it.
Sorry for being a little preachy here but it’s coming from my heart :)
Failure is as common as the air that we breathe & the water that we drink , there’s no living thing that has ever existed on this earth that has hadn’t faced failure, indeed all the greatest things that our humanity could ever do so far, create or achieve was all bcos of the multiple failures they had faced at one time or the other, more than failure what matters most is if you have risen like a phoenix from nowhere and have carved a improbable destiny for yourself like no other , that’s when you become a winner , a conqueror, a legend and a history-maker and that is what Salman Khan exactly did! He suffered & he endured all those professional & personal setbacks that were mockingly thrown at him by his wicked destiny , over came them like a stormy ocean and has achieved the kind of success which most of the people can only dream of .
Nor dilip Kumar nor big b nor Rajesh khanna nor srk nor Aamir had ever faced such huge setbacks & controversies and they probably never would and worse still overcome them like the way he has done and then create a destiny which even the greatest can dream of!
He is also the weakest ‘actor’ among all the stars that I have mentioned (though for me srk would always remain the quintessential over-actor , an actor who is too over rated & over hyped), the least diplomatic , the least media-friendly & probably even the least intelligent among them all especially when it comes to script selection, even with all these handicapped limitations & with those ever haunting personal & professional controversies & set backs he has achieved the kind of superstardom which even the biggest of superstars would dream and would feel jealous of, that’s why I regard Salman as the GREATEST SUPERSTAR that Bollywood ever had and would ever have, period!
You can love him or hate him , but you cannot ignore him. you cannot ignore his flops but then can you ignore his record breaking stats? you cannot ignore his controversies but then can you ignore his incomparable success? you cannot ignore his so called crimes (yes, I am talking about that unfortunate car accident , that deer hunting case etc) but then can you ignore his genuine big heart & generosity? you cannot ignore his limitations but can you ignore his achievements? last but not the least , you cannot ignore his failures but then how the hell can you ever ignore what he his successes ?
Keep your hand on your heart and say from your heart & with your pure divine conscience , had any of your dilip kumars or Rajesh khannas or big bs or aamirs or srks or hrithiks or akkis or any other actor would have faced all the controversies & setbacks that Salman faced and with the kind of limitations that he has then would they have had become as big a superstar as Salman?? If any of your answer that comes from your pure heart & divine conscience says ‘yes’ then I rest my case , I lose!
Don’t know what the future has in store for him , he may not continue with this unprecedented success story for long or may be worse ( for his haters) reach much greater heights which every superstar can only dream of , he may get jailed for lifetime or gets acquitted once & for all, may fade off like rajesh khanna or reinvent & rule like big b , whatever may be the case , whatever may be the scenario as long as Bollywood lives the legend of Salman Khan would continue to live , for he is an enigma , a mystery , a bad boy , a charismatic entertainer , people’s superstar , saabki aan saabki shaan hey ye aapna Bhaijaan , an icon , a legend , without any doubt one of its greatest ever superstars and probably in my opinion the biggest superstar of them all.

But when it comes to sheer acting prowess, I consider the top actors in the following order.
1) Ajay Devgn
2) Aamir Khan
3) Shah Rukh Khan
4) a Tier, Hrithik-Salman-Akki

@sht I think you not read my comment properly. I have clearly mentioned that I believe Aamir actor of that decade not because of boxoffice pull only. I knew srk had most no of hits in that decade and he held opening records too but I am talking about influence of Aamir films.
The classic performance and films you mentioned of srk in the list are superb but most for limited to his fan base only. Reach of Aamir’s classic like Lagaan,Dch,3i,rdb and tzp is very much even in present time. Influence of 3i,tzp and rdb is also found in public reactions too. Srk filled that category with Cdi only. VZ,Devdas,KHNH were superb but their influence is not much as they were entertainers only. Its based on my opinion I found in my friend circle,my relatives and people around me.
Bigger thing is that he able to transform those movies into success.Ghajini and 3i success brought smart marketing and changes in trade expectation from big stars film. For me its Aamir only though srk was no. 1 most time of that decade on box office but that also ended by Aamir only.
Regarding blockbusters,hits etc are good to hear but does that matters. Salman recent blockbusters like Ready,ett,dabangg2,bodyguard are forgettable films. Isn’t that. I am not judging only behalf of box office.
For me Akshay Kumar is star-actor of this decade because he improved his choices of films and able to give good cinema each year with omg,spl26,holiday,baby and airlift in last 5 years.
@Abhi Thug, I don’t hate Hrithik either. For me, he is excellent in everything except for dialogue deliveries. I bash him due to some of his fans like Pseudo Intellectual like Nipun.
In fact, I have a plan to watch MD in theatres, Good or bad.

Do you know if salman wouldn’t did that much controversy then he would have disappeared from Bollywood today.he knew that he was a non actor from the beginning.however managed supporting star cast in Rajshri family drama+multiactor movies in last two decades by delivering few hits and have more than double flops/disasters and survived however because in early 90’s peoples were watching family entertainers and they are never ready for an experimenting movies /watched any actor based on their acting skills.
So when 2000 came,things gone reverse salman faced troubles because depite casting big heroines,very good songs too he unable to give a simple hit.because people wanted ACTING more than any valueless overrated melodrama containing any non actor.
So in early 2000 he though let’s involve himself in some crimes/controversy to at least remain hot in from you media in fear losing stardom.hence he remained active for his desperate devil kind personalities in last decade though his intention was clear he never cared about poor people(man,woman) which he is showing to get attention to get the limelight which he never did in early last decade.
So salman was almost finished in 2009,so salman used controversy his main weapon when he was unable to do something during his weakest period.
So we can say instead it’s those controversies which made even big when he was almost finished in 2009 ,even he was thinking now he is a retiring star to whom even now controversy can’t save.
At the same coincidence of time Prabhu Deva like a saviour came with a boon south remake and this biggest non actor who never loved by anyone got a hit.
And people was thirsty and hungry for masla genre/south kinda movies at those times.a nd after a flop veer,salmab decided not to experiment more and go ahead with same with which peoples are awaiting.
Actually even the south remake idea that Prabhu Deva/Boni Kapoor suggested only because after the biggest grosser of bollywood Ghajini.He also thought as no one is currently active to do south remake so it’s the best time o come back these kind of movies.
