Most successful Bollywood Actors: 2000 – 2009

This is a question that gets asked quite frequently in the weekly ‘Ask Indicine’ Question and Answer session. So to end the debate once and for all, we analyse the Top 6 most successful actors in the last decade.

Most number of films:

  • Akshay Kumar – 42 films
  • Ajay Devgn – 39 films
  • Salman Khan – 32 films
  • Shah Rukh Khan – 21 films
  • Hrithik Roshan – 14 films
  • Aamir Khan – 9 films

Total Net Collections for each actor between 2000 – 2009:

  • Akshay Kumar - 983 crore
  • Shah Rukh Khan - 678 crore
  • Aamir Khan - 585 crore
  • Salman Khan - 581 crore
  • Ajay Devgn - 557 crore
  • Hrithik Roshan - 481 crore

Average net box office collections per film between 2000 – 2009

  • Aamir Khan – 65 crore
  • Hrithik Roshan - 34.35 crore
  • Shah Rukh Khan - 32.29 crore
  • Akshay Kumar - 23.40 crore
  • Salman Khan - 18.15 crore
  • Ajay Devgn – 14.28 crore

Success Ratio i.e Above Average or better  (probably the most important, because it’s the percentage of films that recovered investment)

  • Aamir Khan – 78%
  • Shah Rukh Khan - 67%
  • Hrithik Roshan - 43%
  • Akshay Kumar - 36%
  • Salman Khan – 31%
  • Ajay Devgn - 13%

Hit Ratio i.e Hit or Better

  • Aamir Khan – 67%
  • Shah Rukh Khan – 57%
  • Hrithik Roshan - 43%
  • Akshay Kumar - 26%
  • Salman Khan – 19%
  • Ajay Devgn - 10%

In conclusion, when it comes to Top 3 actors of the previous decade, it’s between Aamir, SRK, Hrithik and Akshay.

Shah Rukh maintained a very high success and hit ratio throughout the decade, even though he has featured in more than twice the number of films as Aamir.

Aamir’s stature and box office total grew quite significantly towards the end of the decade because of films like Ghajini and 3 Idiots. He didn’t have a release for four years between Dil Chahta Hai (August 2001) and Mangal Pandey (August 2005).

Salman was inconsistent, many of his films were huge disasters. As a solo star, he didn’t have much to show apart from a few films like No Entry, Partner, Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya and Wanted.

Akshay enjoyed the best phase of his career in 2006 and 2007, when he delivered several back-to-back hit films. He tops the ‘total net collections’ for the decade. His average per film and success ratio isn’t too bad either.

Hrithik Roshan went through a career low after a stellar start to his career, but made a comeback and remained consistent after Koi Mil Gaya.

Ajay Devgn was poor throughout. Both his success and hit ratio were well below 15%. His hits were Bhoot, Masti, Golmaal and Golmaal Returns.

  • It’s KING KHAN is most successful because HE did more films and gave highest hits and least flops.

Amir khan did only 9 films is not at all comparable with other actors.

Btw again KING SRK will top the list next year onwards.

Because KING SRK WAS NO.1 till pk.so again 3 HITS will bring KING SRK TO NO.1 POSITION.

    THOUGH EVERYBODY KNEW

    HE IS NO.1 FROM 1992-2002

HE IS NO 1 FROM 2000-2009

AND MOST CONSISTENT OF THE DECADE.

BUT HE IS THE HIGHEST SUCCESSFUL ACTOR OF ALL TIME FROM 1992-2016.

NO ONE CAN REPLACE HIM at least his generation stars can’t match with HIS SUPER CONSISTENT GENERATION CONSISTENCY.

BECAUSE KING OF BOLLYWOOD SRK RULES BOLLYWOOD.

  • How can someone say if Hrithik was bigger than Akki in 2007-08 or not.
Hrithik didn’t have a single release in 2007! And even in 2008, he did a not too commercial Jodha Akbar and it was a Hit with 64 crores!
And Kites was expected to challenge 3 idiots by many trade !! So Obviously he was too big in that time too. 2010 doesn’t belong to last decade though!

  • Between 2000–2009 SALMAN delivered some GOOD films but unfortunately it doesn’t convert into BO Collection

    This is my personal opinion

Tere Naam—– deserve an ATBB tag
Jaan E Mann —- Super Hit
Mujhse Shaadi Karogi —- Super Hit
Har dul Jo Pyaar Karega — Super Hit
    Lucky —– Hit
    London Dreams –Hit
    Garv —— Hit

  • Masti was not even an ajay movie .

Golmaal nd bhoot were semi-hit in your site in 2009 article. It was only Golmaal returns which was a clean hit 4 ajay.
Ajay 500 plus in near 40 movies nd Akshay just short of 1000 crore in near 40 movies . Almost double Collection in same amount of movies .?

Just want to know why ajay is even there in d list indicine? I can bet even Saif had better average than him in 2000s nd more clean hits . You should have included him also !

  • But Indicine, why only analyse between 2000-2009? Least successful time of Salman Khan?
Why not for 1988-1989-1990 to 2000 and also for this decade???
You need to please and uplift a section of audiences morally!!

  • Well I have no qualms with this analysis… I know very well Ajay was not successful movies back then.. Reason solely was when others were into commercial movies Ajay was experimenting with different genres and art movies too….His commercial movies started yielding late 2000s..

    90s and 2010s….analysis pls..

  • Love you Aamir. Most masterpieces in one decade. Salman not even in top 10 a decade back.
Even today Salman is 2nd to Aamir in both box office and quality films.
Aamir has 7 movies in imdb top 250 out of which 5 were from 2000-2009.
True ruler of the decade – AAMIR!
IN this decade, Sallu is Aamir’s competition only in box office. Quality and acting, Aamir is miles ahead of evrrybody.

  • @Aman… Yes we want 2010 – 2015 top actors

    NO… I don’t think so oo….coz @indicine always Highlighted SRK
    after 2010 SRK is a looser….

So I’m damn sure @indicine will not publish 2010- 2015 top actors list

  • Some idiots don’t know trade,as simple as that.

Giving 4 hits at the boxoffice in 2007 including 1 superhit,1 blockbuster and you can’t compare him with HR who did’nt had a release. And when he came back he gave a hit JA and Akki gave a superhit SIK which took record breaking opening, did 68crs.

  • During that Ajay was the only one who has did maximum number of non commercial movies or parallel cinema . Indicine you should also mention this, the type of movies each actor was doing that is main factor of bringing boxoffice collection. While SRK, AKKI, SK, HR was doing romance, Ajay was involve in some serious cinema.

  • Much has been discussed about the megastardoms of Salman Khan and SRK.
To my understanding, with the supports of big directors, co_stars and banners, even some rising stars can deliver big successes. a megastar should be to deliver super hits, blockbusters and ATBBs no matter who direct(s) him, who star(s) alongside with him or who produce(s) his films.

Keeping this standard in mind, let us analyse the careers of both Salman and SRK.

Their films releases in the years from 2001 to 2016 have only been taken in the analysis. These years have been again divided into two phases: 2001-2008 and 2009-2016. In each phase, there is a span of 8 years. Let’s begin.

12 out of 17 films were successes. Success Ratio in the best phase: 70.6%

    OBSERVATIONS:
1- Salman’s success ratio in his (curent) peak is more than SRK’s in his career peak, while SRK’s success ratio in his current low peak is more than Salman’s low peak in last decade.

2- SRK just had a few blockbusters in the peak of his stardom and one Super Hit. Most of his films were just hits or above.

3- Salman has been delivering blockbuster after blockbuster and Super Hits during his currently peaking stardom.

4- SRK in his currently bad form delivered one ATBB.

5- Salman during his bad form in last decade delivered two blockbusters.

6- SRK, during the peak of his stardom in last decade, managed to deliver big successes like Blockbusters and Super Hits with big directors, big heroines and big banners only.

7- Meanwhile, Salman in his currently re-found stardom, has delivered big successes no matter who he has worked with: New Heroines, Popular Heroines, Big or Small Directors, Big or Small Banners etc.

8- SRK is currently (a low phase in his career) failing to give big successes even with big banners and big casts and crews.

9- On the other hand, Salman even without the supports of the big directors, big heroines or big banners managed to churn out blockbusters and hits.

10- Salman was severely struck by multiple controversies and legal cases. Besides, media constantly tried to portray him in negative light, which dented his public image and caused people to deliberately avoid his films or protest against his films.

11- Currently, SRK is surrounded by Intolerance Controversy which is huge in magnitude as well. However, the media do not behave with SRK the way they did with Salman in last decade. Majority of media circles are pro-SRK.

12- At the time when Salman was facing his low phase in his career, he was younger. He had time and energy to bounce back like never before. He always had the larger fan following among masses.

13- However, The time of SRK’s low phase in his career is now and he is 50 plus. He doesn’t enough time and energy.
And none of his upcoming films looks super hit or blockbuster materials. So, it will hard for him to bounce like Salman did. Perhaps he can but he can never achieve the position in the industry that he had in last decade.
It looks like he is a glory of the PAST now.

Note: This is the analysis of their careers since 2001. Prior to that, Salman was miles ahead of SRK in 1990s.

  • Indicine you should have to provide adjusted net collection. Because blockbuster of net collection in 2000 is not even close to net collection of hit movie in 2009. For ex knph mohbbate in 2000 looks lesser collection than wanted love aaj kal So it is unfair to compare total net collection

    Top 5 superstar 2000-2009

Srk – again quantity wise, magnetute of successful movies and performance wise (mohbbate, khnh, swades, veer Zara, don, CDI)

Hritik- only magnetute of successful movies and few performance (kmg, Lakshya JA)

    3. Amir – only 2 big hit movie and many good performance (Lagan, RDB, Dch, TZP, 3i)

    4. Akshay- for only quantity of successful movies

    5. Salman :

  • 2000 : Kaho na Pyaar Hai ( Highest Grosser of the Year )
2003 : Koi MIl gaya ( Highest Grosser of the Year )
2006 : Dhoom 2 ( Highest Grosser of the year and Krrish was 2nd HGOTHY )
Despite ruling 2003 and 2006, Hrithik didnt have a single release in respective following year ( 2004 & 2007 )
On the other side , He won 6 filmfare awards in first 8 year of his career ( 200-2008 ) .
Since 2008 it has been Dull phase for Hrithik.
I think he is going to dominate next 8 years ( 2017-2025 )

  • Doing 2-3 times more film than Hr and aamir but still contribute 1000cr …!!!
    That’s Akshay Kumar for you…!!

  • Let me tell u guys one thing that if salman had taken his career seriously he would have topped most of the lists. ….. I m a hrithik fan…but I m disappointed with him…because he has done very less films. …..acc to me if u consider mad fan following. ..then

    1 ..salman….right now
    2…sharukh. …
    3…hrithik. ..

amir akshay has fan following but it’s limited. …u can see people saying. .oh it’s salman movie… or sharukh movie… or hrithik movie …no matter whether movie is good or bad. …but u could hardly see people saying oh it’s amir movie let’s watch….They will go for amir +content. .not solely for amir. ..that’s why I feel salman..sharukh. .and hrithik has mad fan following….and I m one of them……..

    by hrithik fan….#huge fan….

  • This is a just little TREATMENT for HATERS from @indicine

Because Next 2-3 Week we will see a lot of Articles About Superman SALMAN
[ articles about SULTAN huge BO Collection & How Sultan SMASH BO records. ]

  • Dear fellow #Hrithikians
pls avoid commenting on any #rustom related posts. let them have some good time..
we all know content will decide the fate of the film! so hav patience guys. :)

  • 2000-2009 belongs to aamir hands down and srk number two
2010-till now belongs to salman khan and aamir khan on top and srk number 3

    srk was never number one

  • It’s SRK without any second thought.
Amir’s success ratio is fantastic, but one should note that he was absent for a significant amount of time. Less movies means less risk.
So it should be SRK at top.
Statistics of Akshay and Hrithik are impressive too.
