Most Disappointing Bollywood Movies of 2014

Jai Ho: Salman Khan did not have any release in 2013 which was a first for him. So when he was returning after more than a year with a film that was labelled as a social drama, expectations were certainly running high. Unfortunately, Jai Ho turned out to be a damp squib filled with clichéd situations, unconvincing storyline, awful casting filled with B grade actors and above all unnecessary Salman Khan fight scenes. Sohail Khan wanted to make a social drama without alienating Salman’s fan base. He ended up pleasing nobody with Jai Ho.

Gulaab Gang: Sampath Rai’s story of forming the Gulaab Gang and invoking their own justice on men who harm women was an interesting premise for a film. Casting former heavyweights like Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla made the film’s prospects seem even better before release. Sadly, in his attempt to turn the film more commercial, director Shoumik Sen added unusually Salmanesque action sequences to his film. A much more realistic subtle approach would have done the film a lot of wonders. No wonder, Gulaab Gang sank without a trace.

Revolver Rani: Kangna Ranaut stole our hearts with her performance in Queen. The film made us feel that it was the emergence of a bold and independent new actress in Indian cinema who likes to do things her way. That is why we were intrigued by Revolver Rani before release. Unfortunately, the film turned out to be too eccentric and loose-ended for anybody’s liking. Its failure notwithstanding, we are willing to give Kangna the benefit of the doubt.

The Xpose: Truth be said, we were not expecting The Xpose to be a good film since the moment the trailers were released. Heck, we expected a bad film. But The Xpose turned out to be even worse than we imagined with some of the worst acting we have seen in Hindi cinema recently, coupled with cringe-worthy and atrociously bad dialogues. Even Himesh Reshammiya’s music couldn’t save his acting venture. Himesh should do himself and us a favour and just quit acting as soon as possible. However, the makers are set to release a sequel later this year.

Fugly: Akshay Kumar showed promise as a producer when he produced the phenomenal OMG Oh My God and that alone made us feel that Fugly will be worth watching. However, it turned out to be almost unwatchable with hackneyed plot-lines and clichéd characters like the one which Jimmy Shergill portrayed. Fugly was trying to be a Rang De Basanti for this decade but unfortunately, it had neither the balls nor the brains to execute the social uplifting aspect with the youthful camaraderie aspect. Vijender Singh would do the country proud by focusing on his boxing career for now.

Worst Bollywood Movies of 2014

Humshakals: Sajid Khan delivered the first flop of his career with Himmatwala where he abandoned his favourite genre of comedy for masala. So when he returned to comedy, we expected Sajid Khan to be back to his A game. That of course turned out to be a false dawn as Humshakals lowered the mark for the worst film of the year and took the crown from Fugly. The cheesy acting, the ridiculous story and the miscast Saif Ali Khan all played a part in ruining Humshakals and gave Sajid Khan his second flop in a row.

Bobby Jasoos: Vidya Balan had been going through a dull phase before Bobby Jasoos came to town. She was allowed her share of Ghanchakkars and Shaadi Ke Side Effects after giving us films like Ishqiya, Paa, Kahaani year after year. So we expected Bobby Jasoos to bring Vidya back into the game as the film’s focal point was Vidya and everything revolved around her character. She was almost faultless as an actress but the film was truly disappointing with very few thrills and the suspense not being up to the mark. We expect Vidya to choose better scripts now, as per her usual norm.

Entertainment: One of the many reasons Rohit Shetty has emerged amongst the top directors in the last decade, has been the scripts written by Sajid-Farhad. They’ve written some of the funniest films like the Golmaal series and Chennai Express. So when news came of them making the leap into direction, naturally we expected them to make a fun family film. But it wasn’t to be. Entertainment turned out to be a mess of a film which seemed like it was spoofing other comedy films. Entertainment can be best enjoyed at home on the TV, it just wasn’t a good enough big screen experience. Sajid-Farhad have to do better with their next film, which is Housefull 3.

Raja Natwarlal: Emraan Hashmi seems to have forgotten his core audience in search of respect amongst the multiplex audience. It was felt as if Raja Natwarlal would be a return to familiar rustic territory for Emraan. It had a very entertaining idea about creating a fake IPL team and selling it but the execution left a lot to be desired. It just didn’t come together in the end. Raja Natwarlal felt like a disjointed film which had been edited together.

Daawat-e-Ishq: Parineeti Chopra has been one of our favourite actresses ever since her debut in Ladies Vs Rick Bahl, because of her jolly attitude and fun nature. It doesn’t hurt that she is a good actress. Director Habib Faisal has also written and directed films like Do Dooni Chaar and Ishaqzaade. That had us intrigued about this film which promised to capture the delicacies of Hyderabad and Lucknow. At the end, it was neither a food film nor a properly boiled (get it) love story. It ended up being a film about dowry. You can’t promise the audience one thing and give them something else. Daawat-e-Ishq met its fate at the box office.

Bang Bang: Bang Bang was being made since ages. It was the official remake of Hollywood hit Knight and Day and featured the beautiful pairing of Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif. It was shot in beautiful locales around the world. Unfortunately, with hindsight we can say that Bang Bang is the most beautiful looking bad film. It felt as if director Sidharth Anand brought together action scenes and conceived them just to play to the gallery. Now, those actions were stylishly shot and were good to look at but without a believable script to back it all up, Bang Bang fell flat after its opening weekend. The fact that it was still the highest grossing non-festive release of 2014, shows the potential the film had, if only it had a better script and director!

Kill Dil: Ranveer Singh has been the darling of the media recently because of his hit films and his hit pairing with Deepika Padukone. So when he decided to do Shaadi Ali’s Kill Dil we were looking forward to the final product. Expectations weren’t high but we expected a watchable film. It wasn’t to be. Kill Dil was plain and simple bad cinema with nothing working for it. Director Shaad Ali wasted some good songs created by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. The box office outcome of Kill Dil has lessons for its lead actor – Ranveer needs to do less buddy-action films, Parineeti Chopra needs to reinvent herself and Govinda needs to be given better scripts to work with.

Happy Ending: Saif Ali Khan is a good respected actor with a decent body of work behind him. However, he has been going through a rough patch recently which is partly due to his bad script selection – Bullet Raja, Humshakals and Happy Ending. He was miscast in all those films except for Happy Ending. Saddest thing about Happy Ending was that Saif didn’t do justice to a film which is home territory for him: the romantic comedy genre. He seemed old in it. The film itself tried to be different from other romantic comedies but ended up being the same type of romantic comedy it was trying to make fun of. One of the biggest disasters of 2014.

Action Jackson: Being part of disasters seems to have become a speciality for Ajay Devgn, what with him doing films like RGV Ki Aag, Cash, Tezz, Rascals and now Action Jackson being added to that list. Prabhu Deva makes some of the most regressive and repulsive films in Bollywood and Action Jackson was a sad continuation of that trajectory. It was the worst film made this year by far. Everything from the casting to dialogues to storyline to action scenes created record lows. For arguably the best actor-superstar in the industry, Ajay Devgn can do justice to both serious intense roles and as well as light-hearted comic roles. We hope he picks better films!

Happy new year..honestly yes Srk worst along wit ashoka but it created some records and u know what srk has attained in Hindi cinema …ppl will not agree but it wasn’t that bad..may b to lengthy and some fantasy scenes…but no hny and bang bang shd not b in d list. I think entertainment too shdnt b there!
@trust me…no I don’t agree Arjun was bad in gunday. I think he showed more dedication or may b ran veer acted wit ease but honestly I give Arjun some credits cos only him could do both villainous and good guy role…2states nah.. Arjun was good there too but tevar yes!
Finally…ACTION JACKSON.. yes.. I too was disappointed! But its a lesson for Ajay but happy indicibe quote “ARGUABLY D BEST ACTOR-SUPERSTAR. meaning…AD talent and skills can never be written off even wit disappointment. Wish other fans can also b honest wit their fans movies but very very hard…!!
Well wish 2015 doesn’t disappoint!! Wishing my Contemporary colleague Akshay Kumar very best of luck for baby!!

  • My worst films of 2014 (From Worst to least bad)

    1. Crappy New Year
    2. Humshakals
    3. Action Jackson
    4. entertainment
    5. Bang Bang
    6. Singham Returns
    7. Happy Ending
    8. Kill Dil
    9. Dawat e ishq
    10. Jai Ho

  • HNY & BANG2 , entertainment should be out of this list as d movie had well script although d collection was sandwiched b/w SR & Kick ?

  • @gj007 I hv some mental problem that’s y I liked ek villain and gunday which were horrible films and rejected by everyone.

@trust me,I m not stopping nipun from giving his opinion.just feel surprised when ppl find find so many well accepted films as mediocre/bad.btw,everyone here pokes at me always and ask y hv I written this,y not that.so I guess I also hv the freedom to ask others the same thing

@nipun I admire ur intellect but don’t know wat made u quote me wrong for ratings of the mvz.
    I gave villain-8 kick-8 2 states-9 gunday-7 and kill dil initially 7/10 but soon changed it to 4.5/10

and plz understand that u can’t superimpose 10 scale rating into 5 scale rating.
my 5 scale rating would b
    villain-3.5
    kick-4
    2 states-4.5
    mary kom-1.5
    kill dil-2
    hny-3.5

    @nipun hope u understand

  • @gauraav villain wasn’t a blatant rip off of I saw the devil.except basic storyline and couple of scene everything else was different.in the korean film there waa no Romantic backstory happening in flash back, hero was a police not a gangster and the villain waa a sexually starved man who raped and murdered girls but ritesh character was poles apart from the korean villain.

if villain is a rip off of another film bcz of minor similarities then by ur logic every Hollywood superhero film is a rip off each other as they always hv the basic storyline same

  • I hd personally enjoyed villain,2 states and humpty but still criticize them always as my goal of life is to always troll and bash sambuddha which iz the only thing I m capable of doing

  • I just have to stop n chuckle everytime I hear our rajeev madand prodigy n cross dressing freak nipun kumar call others like some buddha mukherjee a chameleon…. Why I hear you ask…. Well our resident agony aunt nipun is no stranger to the term ‘chameleon’ as he is infact well versed to the teachings of chameleonism and a graduate from the saruman school of treachery now administered by Chameleon Baba kShitij Srivastava…. Infact nipun now wants admission to Jaadulands only kindergarten funded by FilmKraft Super Toy Stores to get a doctrine in Chameleonism…!

  • Most disappointed film of the year for me.
    1. Kick- Salman is back with EID,With a huge production value movie kick, there was not huge hope for me but the trailer which was outstanding raised the expectation. Movie was good with superb seconfmd half but the action scenes was too average as we had scene fantastic action scene in ETT already by Salman.
    2. PK-no doubt the best commecrical film since 3 idiots but the Raju Hirani-Aamir combo failed to create 3i kind of magic, Had omg not released than pk could be eventually turn better than 3i.
First half was fantastic but second half turned out as good at best but one fact is pk is looking better in repeat watch and I gave seen film 3 times so its better than first watch.
    3. Jai Ho- Wasn’t expected too much but the execution of wonderful script with too much unnecessary fight scene, poor supporting cast with poor direction turned out a mediocre film.
    4. Bang Bang- I don’t have any expectation with bang bang till the teaser released, after that song were very good to increase buzz and expectation but once the trailer released just one week before the film release I got a sense that I will gonaa fail to meet huge expectation that eventually turned out.Hrithik was good in his role but script and direction were huge letdown.Kick failed to excite me with action scene but bang bang only score for me due to Hrithik outstanding action scene.
    5. Happy New Year- I don’t know why Indicine didn’t put hny in disappointing list if they put bang bang.I don’t gave expectation of MHN or oso with hny but I expect a better movie than TMK but it was even more pathetic for Mr than TMK at least tmk had some earnest performance from both Akshay and some comic scenes but hny falls flat for me in every department only Abhi made some relief.
    6. Action Jackson- not seen the film yet but it’s review and trailer itself enough to understand how poor it was.

Movies like humshakals, daawat e ishq, the expose etc don’t had any expectation from my side so no chance of disappointment too.

  • @navin initially I used to feel bad when u used to repeatedly troll and bash nipun but I hv to admit now that u were correct in watever u were doing with him.he deserves to b bashed and trolled.everytime I ask him something or politely crticise his comment or hrithik film he starts behaving in a strange way, gets personal and looses his temper for no reason.

I still remember how I was bashed by him for posting my negative review of bb in multiple articles but he him self posts multiple negative reviews of every film and if we politely criticize his review he looses his temper and starts going personal

soorry navin for misunderstanding u,watever u r at least u r real not fake like nipun who is good to u if u praise him but if u criticise him the slightest he will change completey into a different person

  • @sky I think indicine got the heading of this article wrong.disappointing word literally means anything that fails to leave upto ur expectations.but actually thus article is about the worst films of this yr starring known stars in them.

so that’s y films like kick,pk,hny,sr r not in the list as all of them may not lived upto the high expectations but were still decent to v gd

  • Who on earth has written this article :p LOL why HNY is not in the list ?????
lol i’m surprised…but one should not get shocked as SRK is winning best actor for HNY….lol u have mentioned MOST in the title…most disappointing and missed HNY …..zarur konu phirki le rha hai aapki :D i have lost faith in humanity now….Bless me GOD…better i should stick with hwood movies.

  • @sky

What a joke- disappointing comment….. PK exceeded expectations of everybody barring mine as I predicted 400cr…. Kick was about 20cr below par… But our Kings Crappy New Year was 100cr off the 300cr storm everyone was predicting inc our complan boy sss khan…. As for Dhoom 4 aka Bong Bong it was 100cr less than Dhoom 3 which was a huge disappointment to jaadoo fans as it clearly showed Hrithik himself is nothing without YRFs dhoom brand… Come on stop playing to the galleries- tell it as it is- pk was not a disappointing movie….. Kings movie should take top prize followed by bing bong n jail ho… That order…

  • @sambuddha

Really? That’s your counter-argument. Suri “bollywoodised” I saw the Devil. He toned down gore and added romance. I really do admire Aamir Khan but I am open enough to say Dhoom 3 was a “bollywoodised” rip off of The Prestige. Don’t defend a plagiarized film because you supportyour so called youngistaan.

  • @Asambuddha Banerjee/Chaterjee/Ghosh

And you also deserve your fair share of bashing you chameleon! “Gauravv is writing script for Mohit Suri.” First you support a c-grade rip off which would have flopped badly if there was no Ritiesh. And now you write a pathetic comment on me.

Keep watching HamShakaals. These are the kind of movies which you enjoy!

  • @gaurav first tell me wat does the word rip off mean?and u better take my name properly as I hv nvr made fun of ur name or any personal comments

  • @babaji I really had lot of respect and luv for nipun but he has only said bad things about me in a public forum like indicine.but I know he is a gd boy perhaps he doesn’t like me at all

  • @Navina Tandon:
hrithik is nothing without Dhoom brand? ? U 40 years old uncle, whatever BangBang collected, it’s mainly due to hro. In that movie, the biggest positive thing was Hro’s performance. Movie was criticized by critics. WOM was mixed to negative. It clashed with a highly critically acclaimed film that got appriciation from everyone starting from celebrities and audience.
The thing is that you fucking morons always give credits to someone else for Hrithik’s films success!
You people give credits to Papa for KNPH,KMG,KRRISH,K3! To chikni chameli for Agneepath. To farhan and abhay for ZNMD. To Dhoom brand for D2.

    My question is,
1.if you morons give credits to Papa for the 4 bbs of Hrithik, then whyn’t the same for Rajkumar Hirani for 3 idiots and PK? Hypocrites!

    2. If a chartbustest chikni chameli made agneepath superhit, than whyn’t the same for bodyguard title track for bodyguard and Munni for Dabbang?

    3. Was Dhoom was that big brand before D2? Dhoom was just a “HIT” like Race and OUATIM. And, you people know how big Race 2(just hit) and OUATIMD(Flop) were!
You losers, go and ask people which one is a better film ? Dhoom 2 or Dhoom 3? 80% of people would prefer the Former one.

  • @Sambuddha: hahahaha. .you deserve the title “CHAMELEON”! You have proved it. Few days ago, you were Navinhater and now you are Navin-lover!

  • @Arjun Kapoor fan, 5:19… I got emotional reading your comment.
you know what??? it really feels that you are a good guy and you are really good at heart as well.

You are really one of the the reason I’m here and sometimes you make sense…I’m really sorry if I hurt you. :)

  • This is totally biased……cmpletely biased…..I knw bang bang was not at the level we expected…..but it managed to do decent business…..and top of that we got to see new level of actions new era where it has never been done before….my point of view why happy new year is not in the list…..so many people did not like it also…..do remember bang bang had a tough opponent haider vishal bhardwaj filn….and Happy new year was a solo release and life time only 203 where it was mean to break all box office records…..why? Why? Am not against Mr srk king khan koz hes a mega star…..but we do not nid publish biased info

  • @Sambuddha: Why should I hate you? You always impose you opinion over me. Whenever I give anything genuine about Kick,HNY etc, you start replying me like “Universally accepted and loved films like HNY and Kick are bad for you”! I mean seriously? Everyone has an opinion. And, I am not among the ones who gives 4 stars rating to bad films and 2 stars to great films.

  • @nipun plz don’t tok with me again.it’s better to hv a known enemy than a fake two faced ‘friend’
I don’t like navin but at least he is not fake like u.I did a big mistake by considering u my friend.I m ashamed of myself

  • @navin my list is not about collection but what I feel after my first watch of these films.Kick,pk were not bad films and easily watchable again and again specially PK but they somehow meet my pre release expectation.
For keeping expectation of 400cr is not good specially at present scenerio, for example if pk ticket rates were same as d3 it would end around 300cr as the piracy in India is too much increasing.3i is still had highest footfall probably after Gadar past 2000 but neither 3i can remade again nor any film can come close to footfalls of 3i in future unless it was very outstanding universal film because piracy now a days kill huge business and only hiking ticket rates with huge percentage can open 400cr club in near future. But I am still happy that d3,pk is still the most trended commercial film since 3i.All stars Aamir Khan.

  • Non manipulative resident critique, nobody says agneepath was succesfull due to chikni chameli, u showed ur chameleonGiri again by saying so. Its u hr fans who always bark d3 is successful due to the brand created by hr with d2.
Yes for knph, kmg and krish credit goes to papa and for k3 and bb credit goes to papa’s calculator more than papa…
