Kill Dil 1st Weekend Collections: Yet another YRF film fails at the box office

Yash Raj Films’ is going through a bad patch. While their big budget films featuring top stars is breaking records, every single medium budget film released this year has tanked without a trace at the box office.

After the success of Dhoom 3, YRF followed it up with Gunday which did reasonably well at the box office. Then came the disastrous Bewakoofiyaan starring Ayushman Khurana. Even the critically acclaimed Mardaani didn’t do too well, despite getting tax free status in a couple of states. Daawat-e-Ishq was rejected outright and now Kill Dil too will fail to recover its costs.

The film opened poorly, dropped on Saturday and didn’t show enough growth in business on Sunday. From here on, it would be quite an achievement if the film crosses the 50 crore mark, which already looks out of reach looking at the drops on Monday.

Kill Dil 1st Weekend Collections (Official figures)

  • no need 4 any depression, we know d talent of u Ranveer,Govinda n Ali…dis happened all due 2 old story written by sajid ali

  • High time YRF looks into content oriented films. With superstars you can pull off an average script due to their stardom and marketing. But with new comers, you must focus on quality.

    The only surprise hit they gave was Gunday, which was a very average movie but still managed to gross quite well. Anyways, they are safe as of now. With Srk’s fan, they secure 2015. With Salman’s Sultan (Shimit Amin usually makes movies for YRF) they have secured 2016.

    YRF escaped the same way back in 2006-07 when their movies were flopping one after the other. With Fanna and Chak De they came back strongly!

    In fact I clearly remember people were joking “Check De India” mocking the string of flops delivered by YRF in 2007.

  • Srk= romance
    Salman= stardom
    Aamir= masterpiece
    Akshay=comedy timing
    Hrithik=god gifted… in rare case u will get everything looks, talent, body etc..
    Ranbir= acting
    Others r bcoz of their surname..

  • @@nipun yes I found 2 states,yjhd,bbb,ram leela,a2,htp,hskd better than lootera even though I m still in luv with its songs especially monta re

  • @Gj007. I too remember the CDI episode.and to add it they had just released it on a very few select screens of around 500. Only After its first weeks run wherein it could garner both critical and commercial acclaim they then increased the screen count. Don’t know the exact numbers. But Indicine help me on that.

  • Actually yashraj / dharma r big opportunist. They revive their faded career with reigning superstar srk and build their empire. When hritik was high after knph they offered him in Mdk and d2 to expand their empire. When Amir was new flavor of the season they offered him fanaa d3. Same goes with salman when he is in his best phase. They didn’t offered him whole 90s and 2000 decade. Same goes to akshay when was in good phase during 2005-2007 he did tashan but sadly movie failed and I m sure he will not get chance until give 4-5 back to back hit.( same story with abhishek ) They don’t revive any career of dead horse. Similarly saif was in good after dch, khnh they offered him in hum Tum, Salam namaste etc. in between they produced small budget movies which has less risk even though few movie turns Bo flop they never in red because of other revenue and low stake.

  • @Noam

    I don’t know whether this statement is accurate or it was just a rumor but I had heard after the failure of Aaja Nachle, YRF was almost on verge of bankruptcy. The condition was so bad that they couldn’t market Chak De properly. Thanks to SRK and extraordinary content they got a much needed hit. Surprisingly, a film niche as Chak de was a blockbuster and pulled them out of financial trouble.

    But the fact is, now YRF is much bigger. One big movie and they erase all the loses incurred by the ‘youngistaan’ :)

  • Come on guys, it is perfectly fine. YRF is like a venture capitalist, I mean they might lose money on some but they do make huge on some. However by making so many films they are giving work to so many people and not to mention promoting some really good talent.

  • im surprised that even that many people went to see the film..!!!

    what kind of people must they be???

    i hope people have realised their folly by now..
