Salman Khan’s Kick is likely to beat the lifetime business of Shahrukh Khan’s Chennai Express on Tuesday, as this year’s Eid release is all set to cross the 227 crore mark.
The film is Salman’s highest grosser of all time not just in the domestic markets but also internationally. Kick has grossed 68 crore from the overseas markets alone, almost doubling the business of his last release Jai Ho. However, the overseas collections pale in comparison to Chennai Express which grossed nearly 115 cr overseas.
Comparing the India business of the two films, Kick released on significantly higher number of screens, benefited from costlier tickets and had two open well. Chennai Express on the other hand had to compete against Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobaara on its 7th day of release, but had one of the most popular leading ladies and directors in the country, along with the star power of Shahrukh Khan. With Kick it was all about Salman.
The usual year-on-year growth for Eid releases was missing this year - Bodyguard 143 cr, Ek Tha Tiger 199 cr, Chennai Express 227 cr. All Eid releases in the last three years managed to quite comfortably beat the previous. Kick will also do the same, but the margin will be less than 10 crore.

Make a fair comparison guys….Kick had many advantages compared to Chennai Express, Lets analyse few facts,
1) Release Period : Nowadays a big movie doesn’t need holiday as opening day to collect huge numbers…Dhoom 3 and Kick collected huge and the trend will continue as the ticket prices are getting higher and higher…So CE’s initial Holiday advantage was almost same as the initial days of Kick as the movie had a regular weekend release with Steady collections and then followed by the Eid, so IMO Kick had a better release than CE
2) Competition : Huge advantage for Kick here. CE had just 6 open days, its screen count got reduced drastically after the release of OUATMA , See how Kick dropped after the release of Entertainment, If Entertainment released in the 6’th day of Kick, then Kick would have fell short of 200 for sure, CE despite of the fact that it released with a huge movie, collected the record numbers. If we go further deep, CE had 2 big movies in the first 2 weeks [OUATMA & Satyagraha] compared to one movie for Kick
3) Screen Counts and Ticket Prices : Kick released in record number of screens and with higher ticket rates . Yet it could’nt cross the collections of CE in a huge margin…Just around 5 crores extra in India and its no where close to Overseas and Worldwide collections of CE
So if we compare in a fair way, CE is still ahead.
