Salman Khan’s Kick is likely to beat the lifetime business of Shahrukh Khan’s Chennai Express on Tuesday, as this year’s Eid release is all set to cross the 227 crore mark.
The film is Salman’s highest grosser of all time not just in the domestic markets but also internationally. Kick has grossed 68 crore from the overseas markets alone, almost doubling the business of his last release Jai Ho. However, the overseas collections pale in comparison to Chennai Express which grossed nearly 115 cr overseas.
Comparing the India business of the two films, Kick released on significantly higher number of screens, benefited from costlier tickets and had two open well. Chennai Express on the other hand had to compete against Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobaara on its 7th day of release, but had one of the most popular leading ladies and directors in the country, along with the star power of Shahrukh Khan. With Kick it was all about Salman.
The usual year-on-year growth for Eid releases was missing this year - Bodyguard 143 cr, Ek Tha Tiger 199 cr, Chennai Express 227 cr. All Eid releases in the last three years managed to quite comfortably beat the previous. Kick will also do the same, but the margin will be less than 10 crore.

@indicibe I went to watch kick mainly bcz of chetan bhagat and nawazuddin’s association with the film.so how cn u say salman that for kick salman is the only pulling factor for opening weekend audiences?

I don’t think we need to argue anymore on Kick Vs CE because @Indicine has explained it quite logically. And it is going to even beat Roshans’ Jaadoo3’s manipulated collections worldwide. Hence Kick will take the fourth spot. With this, Salman will have three movies in Top 10 worldwide collections, SRK 2 or 3 and Aamir with 2 Movies.
It is yet to be seen whether HNY can beat this figures. As far as trend is concerned, even the makers of the movie are not confident. And the remake of the boring flop movie, Bong Bong, will earn around 140 Crores and will be just below average because Haider will slaughter the movie from Monday onward!

The reason why ce trended better in 3rd weekend was because of entertainment and people prefer comedy movies over ouatim.Still there were lot of hurdles for kick.releasing pre eid+no big director+ Nobig heroine+no national holiday except on eid.Now CE released on eid ,next day holiday.independce day holiday,raksha bandhan.If kick had all these advantages it would hv done 180 crs in week one.
And who has bigger fan following that all can judge on opening basis.Week 1 CE had all the advantages still it failed in front of kick.Kick peeche se aaker bhi chennai express ko overtake kar gayi.

230cr is a good figure if not great and i as a salman fan loved the film and consider the business to be good and sufficient. sajid being a debutant director and a b-list actress the movie dix reasonably well fr itself.
ps-there is no need to compare it with other films as each film has its own plus and minus therefore fair comparisions are not possible
one more thing kick had to race against time. there was no first look or teasers.directly the trailer was released that too just a month before and music also got a late release around july.
now all of a sudden credit goes to big heroine and top director for CE success .. where were these excuses during ETT ? bigger heroine – katrina and biggest prod house – YRF + 3 open weeks

Kick with its super success still was expected to perform better. 300cr was on the cards, then it sank down to Krrish:3 and now that even looks a little distant.
I’m sure Kick would’ve beaten Dhoom:3 if was a better product.

Your hero has largely benefited from his association with Yashraj and Dharma Productions that have huge marketing channels in overseas and make NRI centric films. Besides, he also goes out to do roadside shows overseas.
And earlier Salman films that didn’t work so well in overseas because he used to make many desi centric films although HAHK opened up market for desi films in overseas. Now, he has started making films that have appeals to the Indian diaspora worldwide. Hence, you should be aware that he is rapidly climbing the overseas chart. And your king has long been dethroned by Salman in India.
