Well, nothing has changed. Kambakht Ishq directed by Sabbir Khan is the same old, typical Akshay Kumar comedy flick. Expensive sets, 4 odd songs filled with babes from the west, a couple of great action sequences performed by the star himself, a super sexy co-star, funny one-liners and a story that completely lacks sense or logic.
So what’s the story? In short, a guy and a girl hate each other to the core but end up falling in love. Yes, that’s about it.
For those keen on the detailed storyline.. Viraj Shergill (Akshay Kumar) is one of the most sought-after Stuntmen in Hollywood. He believes woman are good for nothing, except sex. Simrita (Kareena Kapoor), an arrogant young lady doesn’t believe in love. The two meet at Viraj’s brother Lucky’s (Aftab Shivdasani) and Simrita’s best friend Kamini’s (Amrita Arora) wedding. Both oppose and the battle of sexes begins! But like most Bollywood movies, the two are destined to fall in love.. the weird manner in which they do and realize their mistake, forms the rest of the tale.
Review in short.. Sadly, the best part of Kambakth Ishq is its first 15 mins. Its starts off brilliantly, but falls flat after the church scene. Infact, the second half is so poor, I would rather prefer watching a Tashan instead! Or maybe even Chandni Chowk To China.. atleast the songs were better!
Have patience for a detailed review? Read on.. Kambakth Ishq has to be one of the most desperate attempts to make people laugh, atleast in recent memory. And out of all the so-called funny scenes, probably two are worth a laugh.
In one of the most stupid plots ever witnessed in an Akshay Kumar film, we have the leading lady (Kareena), a doctor, performing her first surgery on her male lead (Akshay), who is injured while performing a stunt. While operating she happens to leave her watch inside his stomach. The watch keeps playing “Om Mangalam” every hour, so loudly that it could put the best of audio speakers to shame. The doctor, worried of being sued, tries every trick in the book to get the watch out and even sleeps with him (or atleast she thinks so). Now, Akshay falls in love, so what does he do? He slips her into a bikini, takes her underwater and proposes.. What does Kareena do? Injects him out of his consciousness and performs a surgery to take the watch out. HECK! Couldn’t she do that much earlier? Okay its a mindless entertainer, but neither is it entertaining or funny!
By the time, the only decent song in the film ‘Kyun’ begins, the restlessness amongst the audience is clear. Some get up to leave, clearly disappointed.
The dialogues are cheap, music (Anu Malik) is pathetic, lyrics are horrible and the performances are no better. Akshay Kumar in yet another slapstick comic role has a bad outing yet again, he tries hard but rising above the script, he doesn’t! Kareena Kapoor in her bitchiest role ever, displays ample amount of skin but disappoints with her performance. Aftab Shivdasani is wasted and so is Kiron Kher. Javed Jaffrey has just about 3 scenes and 10 minutes of screen time. Amrita Arora has nothing to do, she looks great in those bikini’s though.
Coming to the Hollywood stars, the only actor who manages to impress is Sylvester Stallone, being a huge fan of the actor I enjoyed his short guest appearance. Denise Richards looked bad. Brendon Routh was wasted.
Overall, Kambakht Ishq is a lot of money wasted. It neither entertains nor does it have enough ‘laughs’ in store for the viewers. Skip this, watch New York instead!
At the box-office, the movie has released on more than 2000 screens. The first weekend should be huge. But for a big budget film like this, its first Monday will be the key.

So I hope that made it more clear why I didn’t like kambakht ishq. My husband loved the part at the end where kareena blew out akshay kumar at the end. Now you all might wonder why a girl like me married somebody from India. Well like I said, you have to know how to respect girls,when my husband told me he was from a defense background that’s when I ally took notice of him because when I was young we had family and friends who were from the defense backgrounds and they usually are quite different than civilian Indians they are very groomed and polished in their thinking and everything, so that’s when my expectations of my husband went up and I knew this guy due to his upbringing would be a thorough gentlemen and not be a womaniser which alot of Indian guys from India can be and from here as well. To praveen when you said I’ve been teaching for 12 years and all I could make that you were probably the same age or even slightly younger than me and my husband has told me all about cochin since his family was stationed there many years ago, and he found it ridiculous what all nonsense you were talking when I showed him your post.
However not everybody in our family hated kambakht ishq my daughter was just bouncing up down in the seat when everybody was laughing but then again she’s on 4 and doesn’t really know what’s happening, and even my husband thought it was funny but just liked the movie more so because it did send out a message which I think most people didn’t pick up on. I think you can’t seem to understand english I never tried depromoting akshay kumar I said the movie was stupid not him! The movie wasn’t stupid because of him and all the comments I made are from years of life experience so son just chill my husband and I older than you maybe we can teach you a few things.
To fathiya, that’s why I always like your comments because you are much older and make sense, people are just so screwed up these days, and don’t know quality entertainment. You might me remember saying a long time back how I’ve got a great guy in my life but that was actually my husband of 10 years and many have told us we can make out a movie of our love story, when we both look back over the years, wer’re like Dilwale Dulhania le jayenge, Gadar,, Rab ne bana de jodi, and so many combinations of other movies which is why those kind of story lines always appeal to us, and not crap like Kambakht Ishq my husband just liked it because he himself likes to see girls taking the lead and is for women’s rights, that’s why I always say if you don’t respect girls guys can’t get girls from here.

Of course I liked Gadar, why do you ask? It was a great movie. Like I said before I don’t like movies that don’t coincide with reality to a great extent. I can relate to that movie alot, I also faced alot of resistence because of my family and all just because of religion as well as alot of other movies. Our love story has got alot of action and drama in it, but this isn’t the place to talk about it. I just don’t like to talk about my personal life to much, because my husband and I have alot of people around us who are really jealous so its become a habit to not say too much. You should have been able to make out from the way I talk, I’m not that young. I just said it today, because some people here thought I’m some desperate girl who got dumped or something.
By the way my daughter loves srk as well, especially rab ne bana di jodi and om shanti om. We went to see KI ishq a few weeks back just after Michael Jackson died and as someone said watching the movie didn’t help getting over the grief and I felt the same way. My daughter was jumping up and down and then we went to see New York last week, and my daughter thought she was going to see akshay kumar again and kept asking when he is coming because she found new york to serious so we had to keep her busy with popcorn and candy.

What Mini has just said is very true and I totally agree. Nobody here is doubting Akshay kumar’s abilities as an actor as a matter of fact I admit he’s a great actor, but like I said before the movie KI isn’t bad because of him rather its the director. Like Hrithik Roshan he’s a great actor, but for a while he made many flops until he acted in his home prodcutions only and made Jodhaa Akbar. Some actors are very talented but if the director doesn’t tap into their talents properly and channel them in the right direction the movie will not be good.
Some people here are hell bent on trying to declare KI a super hit based just on collections alone. It amazes me how passionate some people are about their favorite actors, even if that actor made a bad movie still they have to promote it at any cost. To me box office collections say very little about whether a movie is indeed good or bad. Financially and in terms of the balance sheet the movie might appear to be a super hit such as is the case with KI, but box office collections don’t necessarily say whether people actually liked it or not. I mean if people were pyschic and knew before hand if the movie was going to be bad, box office collections for such movies wouldn’t be so high. Others just see the movie because their favorite actor is in it, so be default the movie looks good to them. In my opinion box office collections dont tell the whole story, and a movie has to be complete package before it can be declared a hit. Judging from this forum mand people didn’t like the movie and alot of people I know personally didn’t either such as myself but I can’t go back to theatre and say “excuse me give me my money back I didn’t like KI” now can I.
Kiran: when we watch any movie whether it was a comedy, romantic, action, thriller, horror, sience fiction.. whatever category it is.. and want to judge it, value it.. we need to see which way any movie was directed.. the quality in direction..sometimes some small budget movies but directed very well.. so we find it a good movie like the movie Aamir.. sometimes some big big huge movie but with a bad direction e.g. cc2c so we consider it a bad one.. that’s nothing to do with the script or what we love and don’t love.. sometimes a good script and a good love story like the movie Gadar goes in some bad hands, the hands of a bad director who doesn’t know how to do a good movie for that script.. so the result is just a poor movie.. Gadar was a poor direction movie and I think this movie was a hit because no good movies were released in that period of time.. I just laughed while watching it and Amisha Patel with her bad acting spoiled the movie.
I already posted a long comment explaining everyting about this movie, maybe a month ago, coz I saw it when it was released and didn’t like it, saw only half and put it off, and while discussing with someone about it, decided to see it again ( if I didn’t like this movie so it doesn’t mean that I’m not emotional or romantic.. I’m surprised you thought the direction of Gadar was poor as matter of fact the direction was very good, and maybe you don’t remember, Gadar was up against aamir khan’s Lagaan at the same time and we all know how that movie did, so there were good movies coming out at that time. However, precisely what I’ve been saying a movie has to be good all around good direction good script and all, it doesn’t neccessarily have to be a big budget movie for it to be good, I never said the cost associated with a given movie was proportionate to how well it does. But KI was a bad script and bad direction. If I have to give an example lets just go towards the end of the movie. All throughout the movie kareena kapoor’s aunt is desperately trying to convince her to get married and kareena kapoor hates men because she believes her father or whatever left her mother when she was young (which wasn’t true), so finally kiron kher tells her the truth and upon hearing the real story kareena, BAM! Suddenly changes her view towards men. My question was how come kiron kher didn’t spare herself all the unnecessary hard work and misery and just tell kareena the truth from the beginning, then she wouldn’t have had to give her the ridiculous singing watch or whatever, then kareena kapoor wouldn’t have accidently left it in akshay kumar’s stomach while operating, which keeps on going off every hour. Well the answer to all this is since the movie had no story line, which otherwise would have ended in 10 minutes the director has to somehow keep the shit flowing for 3 hours and the director has to stretch the nonsense so we the poor audience gets our money worth or at least we feel like we did.
he kiran yesterday i saw transformers 2 and i like it but i found that critics didn’t like it and give 19% fresh ratings but the crowd enjoying it alot and it grossed 700million+ in 4 week so its means that all peoples are going to be dump and didn’t know which type movies is good or bad beside that kambakht ishq face the same condition……….

Its not only me Kiran who didn’t like Gadar, even my sister and my brothers didn’t like it for the same reasons.. probably we as Bahraini ppl judge any movie differently.. I don’t know and u all see the movies in some different ways.

Well from what you have just said. Its something I forgot to mention earlier this is not so much to you, but there will be odd times here and there, that there are movies that are indeed good and meet all 3 criteria such as the ones you have mentioned and for no particular reason some people may or may not like them. There can be exceptions to the rule. Gadar is an old movie so I don’t wish to go back in time, only to say that it was based on real life events, and some of the things they were showing in Lagaan as well. Both were historical movies and both came out close to eachother and had to do with Indian history. But I think it wrong to compare the two back to back since we are talking about two different time periords. One is set in the British rule era and the other on partition. Had both been on the same time period and events I could have compared them but I can’t.

Just a few words of wisdom for you and friendly advice. “Dogs bite humans and not the other way around”. Fathiya why are you reacting?? Given the number of screwed up and lost confused people in the world if sane people like you and me were to start battling each and everyone of them, what would become of us? These are the pathetic types of people who will live a sad and lonely miserable life in their old age because of what they are doing in their youth. I don’t mean to get personal but your ex-husband is a prime example. You’re a educated strong woman who has got her kids and is living life, while your husband is now lonely miserable and living a dog’s life. Akshay kumar is several years older than me, and Kareena Kapoor is not getting any younger, yet everyone here worships them, and so many actors out there who are so famous and much older than me, so does that mean they are also old fashioned or whatever. Just because they walk around half naked and show skin, its cool and if I talk about morals and values it’s all something out of the dark ages. So you see Fathiya normal is abnormal and abnormal is normal these days. People here think actor are some kind of God’s whatever they do is right, and normal.

Wow! that was really really well said, I agree with you on every single word 100 %. I couldn’t have said it better. Like I said what these people are doing today in their youth they will repent for it in their old age. That’s why I didn’t like KI, it shows a lifestyle that is very short lived and artificial. After just a few days of all this so called “fun” then all of a sudden these men, want a down to earth balanced women. My question is what have these losers who don’t have any morals and character done to deserve a nice woman. The answer is NOTHING! I can understand why you like srk for that reason. He’s been with the same woman practically his whole life since he was like 19 and his wife 15, I think that’s what I read somewhere. Yeah you’re right strong women like you can kick a man out if they do what your ex husband did, but a weak woman just for the sake of keeping a roof over her head and wanting a place to sleep, eat and live will very conveniently overlook all what he does behind her back. I guess that’s why raj is bothered by all this.
Like I said no point in wasting time on these losers. Lets wait for the next good movie to come out. I’m planning on going to see Love Aaj Kal, its made by the same director or Jab We Met and I really loved that movie so I’ve got some high expectations from this movie. But will let you know, you must go see it.

I don’t know but I always got a feeling that he’s unhappy, and because he’s a very nice faithfuly man, he’d never think to betray her or break her heart) Shahrukh is Shahrukh.. he’s not a fake.. he said also during an interview that the most character which resembles him in fact is the character of Raj in DDLJ. There4 I love Shahrukh and trust him more than any other men in this world..

I don’t need to look at my watch and say: oh.. he’s waiting for me.. I’ve to be home at this time even if u r in the middle of something or at a party or with yr friends.
One of my friends is married to a very rich ugly man who controls her life although he’s educated but he’s like old fashion men who wants to go home and find his wife waiting for him no matter what! so whenever she’s with us, at a coffee shop, at a restaurant she says only after 15 minutes that she came and she still didn’t finish her coffee.. didn’t spend enough time with us: sorry friends.. I’ve to be home coz my husband will be there in 30 minutes! and when we ask her: so what.. do u have to be there before he reaches home? She says: he’ll kill me if he went home and didn’t find me there..waiting for him!!!! she’s living her life like a slave! I could never be this woman.. I love men who treat women like their best friends and care for their rights, unfortunately most of men in the East are similar, even in our country, they’re just similar.. my niece got depression because her husband doesn’t allow her go out with her friends.. always wants her to be home.. there4 she got ill.. lousy stupid men think that they’ve all the rights to control women’s life.. to hell with them, and if I could.. I’d hv burnt them all with fire and let them vanish from this world (keeping only Shahrukh the president and the king of this world because he respects women’s rights) and keep this world safe coz they’re also the one who created wars.. they’re responsible for using weapons & bombs and killing ppl everywhere.. but women would make this world a better place 4 living.. because they’ve (hearts), they can’t see ppl suffer and that’s not a weakness but strength and wisdom.

just bcoz a person is being faithful to his wife doesnt make him a good person the same way a divorced man need not b a unfit person.

and wen u cant write good abt a person dont write bad (without knwing him personally) jus bcoz some tabloids had written wrong abt him to gain lot of mileage…(ref. MJ)
