Well, nothing has changed. Kambakht Ishq directed by Sabbir Khan is the same old, typical Akshay Kumar comedy flick. Expensive sets, 4 odd songs filled with babes from the west, a couple of great action sequences performed by the star himself, a super sexy co-star, funny one-liners and a story that completely lacks sense or logic.
So what’s the story? In short, a guy and a girl hate each other to the core but end up falling in love. Yes, that’s about it.
For those keen on the detailed storyline.. Viraj Shergill (Akshay Kumar) is one of the most sought-after Stuntmen in Hollywood. He believes woman are good for nothing, except sex. Simrita (Kareena Kapoor), an arrogant young lady doesn’t believe in love. The two meet at Viraj’s brother Lucky’s (Aftab Shivdasani) and Simrita’s best friend Kamini’s (Amrita Arora) wedding. Both oppose and the battle of sexes begins! But like most Bollywood movies, the two are destined to fall in love.. the weird manner in which they do and realize their mistake, forms the rest of the tale.
Review in short.. Sadly, the best part of Kambakth Ishq is its first 15 mins. Its starts off brilliantly, but falls flat after the church scene. Infact, the second half is so poor, I would rather prefer watching a Tashan instead! Or maybe even Chandni Chowk To China.. atleast the songs were better!
Have patience for a detailed review? Read on.. Kambakth Ishq has to be one of the most desperate attempts to make people laugh, atleast in recent memory. And out of all the so-called funny scenes, probably two are worth a laugh.
In one of the most stupid plots ever witnessed in an Akshay Kumar film, we have the leading lady (Kareena), a doctor, performing her first surgery on her male lead (Akshay), who is injured while performing a stunt. While operating she happens to leave her watch inside his stomach. The watch keeps playing “Om Mangalam” every hour, so loudly that it could put the best of audio speakers to shame. The doctor, worried of being sued, tries every trick in the book to get the watch out and even sleeps with him (or atleast she thinks so). Now, Akshay falls in love, so what does he do? He slips her into a bikini, takes her underwater and proposes.. What does Kareena do? Injects him out of his consciousness and performs a surgery to take the watch out. HECK! Couldn’t she do that much earlier? Okay its a mindless entertainer, but neither is it entertaining or funny!
By the time, the only decent song in the film ‘Kyun’ begins, the restlessness amongst the audience is clear. Some get up to leave, clearly disappointed.
The dialogues are cheap, music (Anu Malik) is pathetic, lyrics are horrible and the performances are no better. Akshay Kumar in yet another slapstick comic role has a bad outing yet again, he tries hard but rising above the script, he doesn’t! Kareena Kapoor in her bitchiest role ever, displays ample amount of skin but disappoints with her performance. Aftab Shivdasani is wasted and so is Kiron Kher. Javed Jaffrey has just about 3 scenes and 10 minutes of screen time. Amrita Arora has nothing to do, she looks great in those bikini’s though.
Coming to the Hollywood stars, the only actor who manages to impress is Sylvester Stallone, being a huge fan of the actor I enjoyed his short guest appearance. Denise Richards looked bad. Brendon Routh was wasted.
Overall, Kambakht Ishq is a lot of money wasted. It neither entertains nor does it have enough ‘laughs’ in store for the viewers. Skip this, watch New York instead!
At the box-office, the movie has released on more than 2000 screens. The first weekend should be huge. But for a big budget film like this, its first Monday will be the key.

In my opinion the last role Akshay Kumar portrayed outstandingly was in Bhool BhulaiyyaN. However, his comic timing and natural flair for comedy alone has rescued extremely poor scripts. I watched Kambakht Ishq today and it left me wishing I had a remote control to fast forward some extremely boring and predictable scenes. There is nothing new about KI. I agree with the review-same old same old. I fear Kareena is becoming typecast in playing bitchy and scheming characters. I like her too much to wish for that to happen :|
I wish Bollywood would produce some quality chick flicks instead. It’s tiring to see the same plot of winning over an unattainable girl- making her fall for the hero- incredibly making HER end up apologising for being a “stuck up little bitch” and the hero winning her in the end. It’s all so flippant. At least if there were genuinely funny moments, I could have excused this obvious sexist approach of Bollywood films but even that was not to be.
One thing that definitely should go and I mean go far far away is the absolutely rubbish background sound many of these “comedy” films have. One can hear “bad boy” when Akshay flirts or some “ooh” in the background when Kareena walks out in a swimsuit. These background “noises” make the film lose any comic value it could possibly have by forcing it on the audience.
Anyway, back to KI. Hardcore Akshay and Kareena fans may enjoy the film as they are the ones who carried the movie on their own. There are no interesting songs except the “Mangalam” track but I wonder if that is because of its own merit or because it was played countless times in the film itself :S I’m not going to start on the lack of logic in the film but that is kinda expected.
i waste another 2 n half hour from my life after “chandni chok to chaina”. i give A BIG ZERO “0” star to kambakth ishk movie

The review says much better about the movie than it should. I’d prefer to watch CC2C 10 more times than watching such a movie. Didn’t they find a better way to torture us? Akshay Kumar says that this is an ILLOGICAL film, so expect nothing but entertainment from it. ILLOGICAL- yes it is, ENTERTAINING- no way.
A total waste of time, money and brains. Watch this only if you’re interested in nothing else but suicide.
Just for the record- I do like Akshay Kumar….but this is unacceptable.

Akshay, kareena, stallone all are not useless actors like thuddi hilane wala and ladkiyon ke peechhe sunghne wala SRK. Akshay is a Padmashree and Doctorate awarded actor. And nothing to say about Kareena and Stallone. If you don’t like these types of movies then don’t watch and don’t post anything. Go for summer vacation and watch RBDJ, in which Anushka sees lord in SRK. Did you see ever in you wife, that doesn’t mean you don’t your wife.

The movie is not as bad or vulgar as so-called critics(well their job is to criticize..?) are portraying in their reviews. I watched it at DELITE and the show was houseful. I enjoyed it & others also liked it. You can watch it atleast one time.

And also dont keep repeating the same thing, if you believe Akshay is the King of Bollywood, so be it.. By you saying it over and over again, is not going to change anyone’s opinion. Some have loved the film, some have hated it.. Isn’t that the case with every movie?
Sumant, you accuse us of being biased, but what about you? Even SRK is a Padmashree and has been awarded the doctrate recently.. And where did we say Akshay, Kareena and Stallone are useless actors? Did you read the review?
And finally, why are we comparing Akshay and SRK? KI and Rab Ne? Cant there be 2 superstars in Bollywood? Cant both have huge fan following? More the superstars, more the blockbusters.. the better it is for the film industry!
i agree. CCTC is a better entertainer than KI. i still believe CCTC was very underrated. it became a flop solely due to bad press. it is a fun film. if you all watch it now, you will all like it.
as for KI………..lot of vulgar scenes and language. why does akshay keep on slapping kareena, and one time amrita arora ??? this is violence against women, and men dont slap women like that in real life. why does he keep on calling her ”bitch” which clearly is a very filthy word. why do the female models flash thier boobs at the men in the party scene ?? terrible.
i have a feeling the director lost the plot somewhere and was desperately trying to make it look funny using the figment of his probable dirty mind, which ultimately misfired big time. fickle minded director.
it only required a bit of common sense and effort from the director to make this into an entertaining blockbuster which it could have so easily been. it doesn’t take a genius to figure out how to cut out the very rude and vulgar scenes.

People who like comedy will like it, people who try to find “intelligence” behind comedy may not like it. A film like Delhi 6, wud still get negative reviews, coz so many just dont understand it. And films like KI, wud be termed nonsensical. You say priyadarshan or david dhawan wu have made it better, but when hulchal was realeased,, everybody said, Another Priyadarshan stereotype. Cant you judge movie based on its genre? Kambakht Ishq has delivered what it promised…sheer entertainment through battle of sexes….i watched and would advise specially younger generations to watch KI coz it lots of catchy today’s dialogue…..nice comic timings and some truly hilarious moments……..
But obviously KI is not close to Hera Phera which was a cult movie…..but i can confirm without an iota of doubt if you had like RNBDJ or OSO…you would definitely like Kambakht ishq……..
in KI you would find overacting at least as in Ghajni…..some critics went gaga about Ghajnii….but i was so much irritated by amir’s over acting…..Ghajnii was saved because of amir not doing much films……nothing else…if people can feel gud abt ghajnii….how those same can turn down a completer entertainer like KI IS BEYOND MY UNDERSTNADING……..

I am in London and was planning to see ki but after reading yr review Indicine Team, I changed my mind.. why should I waste £12 over a movie which is not better than Welcome, Tashan or Golmaal.. I trust yr review and I think it’s a worthless movie – maybe 8×10 tasveer is much better for Akshay

Personally i like films that deals with human and serious social issues…………but that does not mean i do not like movies like KI,OSO or Welcome……..it really depends on mood………whenever i feel monotonous or had watch too many movies with serious issues………..i long to watch an entertainer…….for me KI has done the trick…………even though i believe KI could have been handled better if the director was not a novice one………
Once again Akshay has carried the thin plotted movie on his broad shoulder……Akki was superb in enacting his role………….one point I must make here when others do a comedy flick they look cheap…but when Akshay does…. its a class…..he does not look cheap and a comedian (except in CC2C)….dats the best part of Akki……Akki seems so natural

U think movie is vurgur…Most of the heroies were short dress in today ,according to movie required.

the promos were very much indicative tat this has enough scenes which will make some plp uncomfortable and hence been certified as U/A which itself suggests its not a family entertainer.
now coming to all the bitching thng plp talking abt…i guess the show Roadies has maximum bitching and today its the most popular reality show…and look iam not defending the movie.
so lets not discuss much abt the bitching thng here…
script yes i agree its at it lowest, and i dont understand hw can tis guy pull off the weakest of the films to a bumper response and on most occasion succeds..
now coming to intelligent cinema..look u hardly get intelligent cinema it has to b spot on with each minute detail which requires a lot of time just a e.g when C. Nolan directed The Batman Begins(2005) he was alaready wrking on the sequel The dark Knight(2008)
and if you roll out a movie in les than a year of its start wit big names its obvious tat its a loose script…and today Mindless movies bring in the mollah and producer is more bothered abt the money than “intelligent” cinema…
