I am in alaska, u.s.a. and I LOVED Jodhaa Akbar. A friend who knows I like foreign movies and that I am particularly interested in India turned me on to it. I got it through Netflix and then decided I had to have a copy of my own so asked my brother for it for my birthday. Then I bought a CD of just the songs and now I’m playing it all the time. I came online to look for English translations of the lyrics and found this site. They have translations of some of the lines in the English captions but I can’t catch those fast enough. Thanks Amit and others for the translations here. Are there translations of other of these songs out there somewhere?
Now I am busy turning all my friends on to this lovely movie, and looking for other films with these actors. I would love to see any of them acting in American films, too. Everyone’s culture has value, and I really enjoy learning more about others.

Amit’s original translation was very good, and I would like to thank him for it (although some words like ‘hairaan’ literally means surprise, rather than distress). The beauty of a song is enhanced when you understand the meaning. A R Rahman has come up with just the right tune for the scene. Great picturization too.
