In Lamhon Ke Daaman Mein – Song Lyrics
In lamhon ke daaman mein
Pakiza se riste hain
Koi kalma mohabat ka
Dohrate farishte hain
Khamosh si hai zameen hairaan sa falak hai
Ek noor hi noor sa ab aasman talak hai
(Nagmein hi nagmein hai jagti soti fizaon mein
Husn hai sari adaon mein
Ishq hai jaise hawaon mein ) —2

Can Anybody Send ME The English Transalation Of This Music
Hey Thouseef..
I did the translation on Jashn-e-Bahaara.. but I’m not too certain with this one..
I’m not convinced anyone has the opening line right – ‘In Lamhon Ke Daaman Mein, Pakizah Se Rishte Hain‘
Someone called Smita off a forum thinks its:
– In the intimacy of these moments, there are some pure relationships
Someone called Tushar in a review thinks its
– In the lap of these moments, lie some lovely ties
And my mate who is fluent in Hindi & Urdu says its:
– Beyond this intricate ribbon, there is a holier than holy relationship.
I think my mate has the most accurate one.. but the word ‘daaman’ depending on its multiple meanings changes the entire meaning of the line.. it can mean lap/hand/grip/intimacy.. but I’m not convinced it can mean ribbon.. but he assures me it can. So I’ve gone with ‘beyond the intimacy of these moments, there is a holier than holy relationship’.. but like I said I’m really not sure if that is what it means.
The same goes with ‘Nagmein Hi Nagmein Hain Jaagti Soti Fizaon Mein‘ – literally it means ‘there is melody in the active and asleep surroundings/air’.. but I think it is linked more to the wind and the breeze, and its movements. But again.. not too sure.
In Lamhon Ke Daaman Mein
Pakizah Se Rishte Hain
Koi Qalma Mohabbat Ka
Dohrate Farishtey Hain
Beyond the intimacy of these moments
There is a holier than holy relationship
It is as if a holy verse on love
Is being sung endlessly by Angels.
Khamosh Si Hai Zameen
Hairaan Sa Falak Hai
Ek Noor Hi Noor Sa
Ab Aasman Talak Hai
The Earth stands in silence
The sky is amazed
Dazzling illumination stretches right into the sky
Nagmein Hi Nagmein Hain Jaagti Soti Fizaon Mein
Husn Hain Saari Adaaon Mein
Ishq Hain Jaisi Hawaon Mein
There is melody in the ups and downs of the wind
There is beauty in it’s every elegant movement
It is as if love in the air
Nagmein Hi Nagmein Hain Jaagti Soti Fizaon Mein
Husn Hain Saari Adaaon Mein
Ishq Hain Jaisi Hawaon Mein
There is melody in the ups and downs of the wind
There is beauty in it’s every elegant movement
It is as if love in the air
Dom Tom Tana Nana Dom Tom Tana Dom Dom Tom Tana Nana Dom Tom Tana
Kaise Yeh Ishq Hai
Kaisa Yeh Khwab Hai
Kaise Jazbaat Ka Umda Salab Hai
What kind of love is this?
What kind of dream is this?
What kind of emotions have flooded in here?
Kaise Yeh Ishq Hai
Kaisa Yeh Khwab Hai
Kaise Jazbaat Ka Umda Salab Hai
Din Badle
Raatein Badli,
Baathein Badli
Jeene Ke Aandaz Hi Badlein Hai
What kind of love is this?
What kind of dream is this?
What kind of emotions have flooded in here?
The day changes
The nights have changed
The conversations have changed
In fact the very basis of life has changed too
In Lamhon Ke Daaman Mein
Pakizah Se Rishte Hain
Koi Qalma Mohabbat Ka
Dohrate Farishtey Hain
Beyond the intimacy of these moments
There is a holier than holy relationship
It is as if a holy verse on love
Is being sung endlessly by Angels.
Jodha’s Lines (asking Akbar)
Samay Ne Yeh Kya Kiya
Badal Di Hai Kaya
Tumhe Maine Paa Liye
Mujhe Tumne Paaya
Mile Dekho Aise Hain Hum
Ke Do Sur Ho Jaise Maddham
Koi Jyada Na Koi Kam
Kisi Raag Mein
Ke Prem Aag Mein
Jalte Dono Hi ke Tan Bhi Hain Man Bhi
Man Bhi Hai Tan Bhi
Tan Bhi Hai Man Bhi
Man Bhi Hai Tan Bhi
What is this that time has done?
It has changed everything.
I’ve gained you
And you’ve gained me
Look at how it is that we meet
Like the two harmonies of a beat
Neither higher nor lower than the other
When we come together in any rhyme
And in the flames of passion
We both burn, our bodies & minds are consumed
Consuming our souls/minds and bodies
Body and mind
Mind and body
Akbar’s Lines (answering back)
Mere Khwaabon Ke Is Gulistaan Mein
Tumse Hi To Bahaar Chhaai Hai
Phoolon Mein Rang Mere The Lekin
In Mein Khushboon Tumhi Se Aaye Hai
In the garden of my dreams
you have brought about the most beautiful spring
The colour of the flowers are might be mine but
the fragrance of those flower blossoms have come from you
Chorus Hitback
Kyu Hain Yeh Aarzoo
Kyu Hai Yeh Justju
Kyu Dil Bechain Hain
Kyu Dil Betaab Hain
Kyu Hain Yeh Aarzoo
Kyu Hai Yeh Justju
Kyu Dil Bechain Hain
Kyu Dil Betaab Hain
Din Badle
Raatein Badli,
Baathein Badli
Jeene Ke Aandaz Hi Badlein Hai
Why do these desires exist?
What is it that we look for?
Why is the heart so wanton?
Why is the heart so impulsive?

Hi all
Thanks for the wonderful comments – its always nice to see people appreciating lyrics – I recall when I first watched Hindi movies and my understanding of Hindi was limited I hated that no-one provided English translations.. it was almost like those who understand appreciated songs fully and those that did not.. were left out. I must admit that the depth of a Hindi song and the words used in Hindi are impossible to encapsulate fully in English – but still a limited understanding is better than none right?
I had forgotten this post until the email hit my account upon Vanitha’s comment.
Bloondi – my apologies for the very late response – no the song was not cut from the original. It exists wholly. The only songs they cut in the movie were Jashne-Bahaaraa & Maan Mohanaa and rather than removing they just stuck them in the movie in pieces. Which I must admit to being well annoyed with.
Its now 4th Feb 2009 and 10 days shy of a year to my last post here, and I still have this song on my iPod as the highest listened song month in month out.
Amit

i just love the music, the lyrics, the sreening , the actor ,the actress, and offcourse the movie
Great Song….Thanks a lot Amit for going thru each and every line….Just a note: I feel….the first line means “It is in these moments that purest of pure relationships develop or exist” ….
i like this song very much
sonu nigam sang this song beautifully
awesome song
1 of ma fav song
I like Amit’s translation. It is also in line with the subs in the movie. There is only one verse which I would translate differently…second verse below:
Mere Khwaabon Ke Is Gulistaan Mein
Tumse Hi To Bahaar Chhaai Hai (Chahiye): You should have been outside (as in, you should have not been part of the garden of my dreams)
Phoolon Mein Rang Mere The Lekin
In Mein Khushboon Tumhi Se Aaye Hai
So overall it would read something like:
In this flower garden of my dreams
you should have been outside (i.e. you were not meant to be there)
The colour of the flowers were mine but
to these (flowers) the fragrance came from you
I translated the second verse this way because I thought that the using the ‘Receiver’ tense Tumse with Chahiye or Hi Chahiye meant you should/must and Bahar also means outside. Any thoughts?
really rahman is a great composer.i want to be composer like a r rahman.so please pray for me all of u.
really rahman is a great composer.i want to be composer like a r rahman.so please pray for me all of u. a r rahman is a person who inspire to be a good composer all new composer
I doubt Amit you could expect after 4 years of your beyond amazing translation here ,that you would be thanked again and again
thanks for as long as next four years for this best translation .
No doubt the song and the movie are state of the art and a master piece for as long as they exist .

This song just thrilled my all emotions…love it every time i hear it…favourite word will be less for it..and thankyou very much for such beatiful soul touching lyrics..god bless all…:-)
It’s such an ardent translation carrying the essence of romance of Jodhaa & Akbar, in the most vivid sense. I happen to read many translation scripts, but then, this is the one most capturing, which has conveyed the mood of the song with the inherent poetical meaning of the sacred bondage.
As I am an absolute illiterate in Hindi, I craved for it’s understanding. This has truly brought Joy to relish the song at it’s best.
I heart-fully appreciate and thank Amit for this incredible work. It reveals the immense efforts put-in paying attention even to the minutest detail!!!!
