Jashn-e-bahara Song Lyrics

Kehne ko Jashn-e-bahara hai
Ishq yeh dekhke hairaan hai
Kehne ko Jashn-e-bahara hai
Ishq yeh dekhke hairaan hai

Phool se khusboo khafa khafa hai gulshan mein
Chupa hai koi ranj fiza ki chilman mein
Sare sehmein nazare hain
Soye soye vaqt ke dhare hain
Aur dil mein koi khoye si baatein hain

Ooooo hooooo…

Kehne ko Jashn-e-bahara hai
Ishq yeh dekhke hairaan hai

Phool se khusboo khafa khafa hai gulshan mein
Chupa hai koi ranj fiza ki chilman mein

Kaise kahen kya hai sitam
Sochte hai ab yeh hum
Koi kaise kahen woh hai ya nahi humare

Karte to hai saath safar
Faasle hain phir bhi magar
Jaise milte nahi kisi dariya ke do kinare

Pass hain phir bhi paas nahi
Humko yeh gum raas nahi
Seeshe ki ek diware hai jaise darmiya

Sare sehmein nazare hain
Soye soye vaqt ke dhare hain
Aur dil mein koi khoye si baatein hain

Oooo hoooo..

Kehne ko Jashn-e-bahara hai
Ishq yeh dekhke hairaan hai

Phool se khusboo khafa khafa hai gulshan mein
Chupa hai koi ranj fiza ki chilman mein

Hum ne jo tha nagma suna
Dil ne tha usko chuna
Yeh dastaan humein vaqt ne kaise sunai

Hum jo agar hai gumgee
Woh bhi udhar khush to nahi
Mulakato mein hai jaise ghul si gai tanhai

Milke bhi hum milte nahi
Khilke bhi gul khilte nahi
Aankhon mein hai baharein dil mein khiza

Sare sehmein nazare hain
Soye soye vaqt ke dhare hain
Aur dil mein koi khoye si baatein hain

oooo hoo

Kehne ko Jashan-e-bahara hai
Ishq yeh dekhke hairaan hai

Phool se khusboo khafa khafa hai gulshan mein
Chupa hai koi ranj fiza ki chilman mein

  • For anyone looking for the English translation.. this is what I think it is. First off its close to impossible to get an exact translation coz many lines/words have mutiple meanings so don’t scream at me if you disagree. Its not a literal translation as that would be worth nothing.. but rather its as close to a lyrical translation as possible.

    Kehne ko Jashn-e-bahaara hai
Ishq yeh dekh ke hairaan hai

It is said that this is a celebration of spring
but love is distressed to see…

    Kehne ko Jashn-e-bahaara hai
Ishq yeh dekh ke hairaan hai
Phool se khushboo khafa khafa hai gulshan mein
Chhupa hai koi ranj fiza ki chilman mein

It is said that this is a celebration of spring
but love is distressed to see
that in the garden, the fragrance is shying away from the flowers.
There is a hidden sorrow in the curtain of the happy air.

    Saare sehmein nazaare hain
Soye soye waqt ke dhaare hain
Aur dil mein khoyi khoyi si baatein hain

The slow sleepy flow of time has
silenced much of the sorrow here
and many unsaid things are lost in the heart.

    Kaise kahein kya hai sitam
    Sochte hain ab yeh hum
Koi kaise kahein woh hain ya nahi hamaare

How does one say what troubles them so.
    I wonder this now
how does one actually tell you that they are not in love with you?

    Karte to hain saath safar
    Faasle hain phir bhi magar
Jaise milte nahi kisi dariya ke do kinaare

    We journey through life together,
but there exists a distance between us
like that of the two banks of a river that never meet.

Pass hain phir bhi paas nahi
    Humko yeh gham raas nahi
Seeshe ki ek diwar hai jaise darmiyaan

We are together, yet we are not.
This pain of separation is unacceptable to me.
There is, as it were, a wall of glass divides us.

    Saare sehmein nazaare hain
Soye soye waqt ke dhaare hain
Aur dil mein khoyi khoyi si baatein hain

The slow sleepy flow of time has
quietened much of the sorrow here
and many unsaid things are lost in the heart.

Hum ne jo tha naghma suna
    Dil ne tha usko chuna
Yeh dastaan hamein waqt ne kaisi sunaai

The tune that I thought I would hear
was the song that my heart chose.
But what is this tune that fate has chosen for me to hear instead?

    Hum jo agar hain gumgheen
Woh bhi udhar khush to nahi
Mulaquaato mein hai jaise ghul si gai tanhai

If it can be said that I am sad,
truth is she is not happy there either.
It is as if our encounters are blended with loneliness.

    Milke bhi hum milte nahi
    Khilke bhi gul khilte nahi
Aankhon mein hai baharein dil mein khiza

We meet but we do not unite
The flower blooms but doesn’t blossom.
When I look around I see that it is spring but there is an autumn in my heart.

    Saare sehmein nazaare hain
Soye soye waqt ke dhaare hain
Aur dil mein khoyi khoyi si baatein hain

The slow sleepy flow of time has
quietened much of the sorrow here

  • Amit , thanks for capturing the beauty of the song so perfectly with your translations. Sincere thanks from a non Urdu speaker : )

  • Amit,
I heard this song on the Net for the first time and was instantly taken with it, like most folks on this forum. I set about translating it and then saw your post – couldn’t have done it better myself; your translation is lyrical too! I would make just one correction:

    Sochte hain ab yeh hum
Koi kaise kahein woh hain ya nahi hamaare
    I wonder now
How I can tell if she’s mine or not

You have rendered a great service to ghazal afficianados – great work!

    Venky

  • amit(brother, uncle….i don’t know} but thanks a lot.i will understand Hindi but some.i am from kerala.i am in 8 std.it is 1 of my fav song in my top 10 list.

its rocking……. ar uncle i love ur songs. javed uncles(lyricist&singer) also rocks

    beautiful picturisation

    i love hrithik uncle

  • LOL. Plz I have enough issues with my name.. without anyone implying Uncle. Its bad enough I have a niece calling me Uncle.. but since she is only a toddler I jus about tolerate that. You however Anjaliben.. please call me brother if you must add something to my name. I have no idea what 8 standard is coz I am from London, England so we have different class classifications.

To Venky – I agree that the literal translation means that. But, as I said the song is about love. At this point Akbar has already married Jodhaa, in essence he has her, and is striving for her love, respect and affections. That is why.. and the only reason why I choose to go for ‘how does one actually tell you that they are not in love with you’.. because that is what he is trying to establish and make happen. But yes you are right with your translation. Also literally ‘khafa khafa’ in the chorus means ‘angry’.. but Jodhaa isn’t angry.. just emotionally distant.

& to everyone else.. you’re welcome.

And to Anand: Would you say that if you couldn’t understand the song? I respect your opinion.. but considering the bulk of responses seem to be in favour of the translation.. I’m glad I did so.

  • thank you for the translation it makes me cry everytime when i hear the song. i’m chinese but there is so much emotions beyond words that the 2 cultures share!
