When 3 Idiots swept box office records and Aamir Khan was hailed as the biggest superstar in the country, who would have thought a certain Salman Khan – back then, not going through the best phase of his career – would challenge Aamir for the No 1 spot?
Apart from the lifetime collections of 3 Idiots (200 crores), almost all other records held by Aamir have been broken. Not once, but twice. First by Dabangg and now by Bodyguard (collections are already around 70 crores in 4 days and Sunday should break the 80 crore first week record in less than 5 days!). In between, there was a non-festive release ‘Ready’ which collected 125 crores in India!
While Aamir has one release every year, Salman’s Bodyguard released just 3 months after Ready.
The other challenger for the top spot, Shahrukh Khan, has been missing from action lately. Ra One his next release will be his biggest test. To put Salman’s dominance over SRK into perspective, the first week of Dabangg (80 crores) was more than the entire lifetime collections of Shahrukh Khan’s My Name Is Khan (72 crores lifetime), which also released last year. And Bodyguard is expected to go past MNIK in 5 days flat!
Having said that, Shahrukh Khan has been the most consistent superstar in the last decade and his success ratio is unmatched. His last failure was Paheli and since then almost every film starring SRK in a lead role have been box office HIT’s or better.
If Ra One does anything in excess of 100 crores (and it has to because of high costs), SRK’s position in the industry and more importantly his 100% success ratio in the last 6 years, will remain intact.
Ajay Devgan deserves a mention too – Once Upon A Time in Mumbai, Golmaal 3, Rajneeti and the very recent Singham – have all been super-successfull. He’s right there at the top too.
For now though, it’s Salman Khan, enjoying one of the best phases of his career. He was always a crowd-puller, but never recognized as the topmost star. Now he is!

Bodyguard’ shatters Shah Rukh’s overseas record
New Delhi: The King of overseas Shah Rukh Khan now has reason to worry for ‘Bodyguard’s stupendous success has rocked his throne real hard.
The craze of SRK’s diehard fans overseas can challenge any of the A-list Hollywood star, but Salman’s ‘Bodyguard’ has come as a big blow to the hero’s monopoly and unconditional adoration that SRK enjoys internationally.
Even as the collection of Salman Khan starrer `Bodyguard` has left mouths wide open, film has surpassed the record of Shah Rukh Khan in the overseas market.
As per box-office reports, Salman has broken his archenemy Shah Rukh’s overseas record by minting 194,000 pounds with his latest outing ‘Bodyguard’, on its opening day in UK, and this is apparently 3000 pounds more than what SRK’s ‘My Name Is Khan’ had grossed on its release day in UK.
Reportedly, SRK’s “my name Is Khan’ collected 191,000 pounds on its first day in UK.
‘Bodyguard’ is also on its way to becoming the highest grosser in the Middle East. It has collected $1.6 million in the first two days, just a little behind the previous highest grosser ‘Dabangg’ which collected $1.7 million.
With the Salman-starrer entertainer fetching such a mind-blowing box-office collections abroad, King Khan, who till date ruled the international market, has apparently descended to the second slot.
Meanwhile, Salman’s much talked nerve surgery was a success in US, but his health continues to be a subject of worry. The star said that while he was being operated, the doctors detected an aneurysm, so he might have to be back for another procedure around January in the States.

You have to look at the making of a Salman Khan. It took him a long to be what he is today. And, what he is today is someone who cannot be copied, replicated or imitated. Just like a Sylvester Stallone is born only once in Hollywood, so also a Salman is born only once in Bollywood. May be hysterics like Shahrukhan, Ranbir Kapoor, Imran Khan, Amir Khan or Ajay Devgan will do better in terms of box office collections, but all the visionary viewers including the industry stars as mentioned above know that they can never reach anywhere close to Salman Khan in certain aspects.

SRK is one of the biggest superstars right now along with Sallu and Aamir, those 3 rulede the industry since 2 decades and they are still. What i was saying is that he is not breaking any records or making any history at BO, yes he is n°1 overases and i give him credit for that and also for his consistency, bt as a top star he has to do a Dabangg-like performance i.e a 140cr+ grosser to ensure his position in the industry and i think Don or Ra.one are likely to do it, so see all is well! Salman Khan’s Bodyguard breaks Shah Rukh Khan-starrer My Name Is Khan’s overseas record by earning 194,000 pounds
NEW DELHI: Salman Khan-starrer ” Bodyguard” is on a record-breaking spree. After a stupendous opening in the domestic market, the film has surpassed the record of Shah Rukh Khan-starrer ” My Name Is Khan” by earning 194,000 pounds on the first day of screening in Britain.
“My Name is Khan” had collected 191,000 pounds on the opening day in Britain.
The film is also on its way to becoming the highest grosser in the Middle East. It has collected $1.6 million in the first three days, just a little behind the previous highest grosser ” Dabangg” which collected $1.7 million.
“Reliance Entertainment’s overseas team is delighted to have delivered one of the biggest overseas hits of the year. ‘Bodyguard’ is poised to be a record-breaking success for Salman Khan in the international markets,” Sanjeev Lamba, CEO Reliance Entertainment said in a statement.
The film, which also stars Kareena Kapoor in the lead, has earned $3.8 million in the US and is expected to overhaul the $5 million collections of “Dabangg”.
