When 3 Idiots swept box office records and Aamir Khan was hailed as the biggest superstar in the country, who would have thought a certain Salman Khan – back then, not going through the best phase of his career – would challenge Aamir for the No 1 spot?
Apart from the lifetime collections of 3 Idiots (200 crores), almost all other records held by Aamir have been broken. Not once, but twice. First by Dabangg and now by Bodyguard (collections are already around 70 crores in 4 days and Sunday should break the 80 crore first week record in less than 5 days!). In between, there was a non-festive release ‘Ready’ which collected 125 crores in India!
While Aamir has one release every year, Salman’s Bodyguard released just 3 months after Ready.
The other challenger for the top spot, Shahrukh Khan, has been missing from action lately. Ra One his next release will be his biggest test. To put Salman’s dominance over SRK into perspective, the first week of Dabangg (80 crores) was more than the entire lifetime collections of Shahrukh Khan’s My Name Is Khan (72 crores lifetime), which also released last year. And Bodyguard is expected to go past MNIK in 5 days flat!
Having said that, Shahrukh Khan has been the most consistent superstar in the last decade and his success ratio is unmatched. His last failure was Paheli and since then almost every film starring SRK in a lead role have been box office HIT’s or better.
If Ra One does anything in excess of 100 crores (and it has to because of high costs), SRK’s position in the industry and more importantly his 100% success ratio in the last 6 years, will remain intact.
Ajay Devgan deserves a mention too – Once Upon A Time in Mumbai, Golmaal 3, Rajneeti and the very recent Singham – have all been super-successfull. He’s right there at the top too.
For now though, it’s Salman Khan, enjoying one of the best phases of his career. He was always a crowd-puller, but never recognized as the topmost star. Now he is!

To start with, we, at Box Office India, had the privilege to watch a sizeable portion and songs of Shah Rukh Khan’s ambitious venture RA.One. We were, and still are, speechless. It’s simply MINDBLOWING, and needless to say, every single scene is a treat for cinema lovers. After the film releases on October 26, we’ll have to coin a better word to describe the film than GRANDEUR.
It’s hard to pick a highlight of the film because every scene is awesome, and the SFX is definitely at par with Hollywood standards. King Khan says his proudest moment will be when someone asks if this film was actually made in Bollywood, and he replies, “Yes, RA.One was made in a studio in Andheri, Mumbai.” And mark our words, it will be a proud moment for not just SRK but for the film fraternity as well as cine lovers.
We were also privy to the RA.One merchandise, which SRK and his team have worked so hard on. Again, the merchandise is of international standards. In short, this film is expected to not only create history at the ticket window but also in every aspect of Indian filmmaking and marketing.

Disagree, actually i think now Sallu is finally equal to Aamir but certainly not ahead, WHY?
1-He was consistent in this decade and gave huge hits in all genres. MP, RDB, Fanaa, Ghajini and 3 Idiots are weekends records breakers and all were from different genres.
2-When Ghajini released it was the first film to gross more than 100crore in 2008 and that was chocking at tat time!! Also it trended pretty well and doubled its initial.
3- 3 Idiots when released broke all opening records but not only that it also doubled its initial more than 2 times i.e it went from 80crore week 1 to 200crore lifetime, (just for comparison: Dabangg went from 80crore to 140 so it was nowhere nar 3 Idiots)
4-Had 3 Idiots been released today it would have opened at 100crore week one undoubtedly and would ahve ended at 250crore or so.
So see while Sallu is now at his best, we can’t ignore Aamir’s record and that tpp in ALL GENRS.
Also don’t forget that he has Reema Kagti’s movie and can do very well, and also Dhoom 3 which is likely to break all opening records in Christmas and end up as Bollywood’s highest grossing film ever.
That’s why for me Aamir will always remain n°1 with Sallu matching him now.
As for SRK he has never gave a record breaker movie, his only big grosser was OSO and it did less than Hrithik’s Dhoom 2 LMAO.
So there you go!
Salman Khan is always best as he is the only star with 5 All Time BB and 5 BB in his career, and also most Solo hits, and back to back 3 BB. Now see Bodyguard will become 6th All Time BB.
Bodyguard has not 3 weeks free like 3 idiots if he would have atleast 1 week free then it can easily break 202 crore mark set by 3 idiots.

If RA 1 and Don 2 will become Hit, still SRK can’t compete with Salman because he has done Hat trick of BB movies with 4 Blockbusters in 3 years.

relax dude, SRK has been the most consistent superstar no doubt about that no one is questionning his superstardom but he has never given something like Gadar, Dabangg, Ghajini, 3 Idiots.
I mean Veer-Zaara was the highest grossing film of that year but it didn’t break any record same with Devdas and OSO. Also in those years he had absolutely no comptition: no Aamir no Salman and no Hrithik!!! When Hrithik came with KNPH, Krrish, D2 and KMG he overtook him at BO. In those years Aamir and Hrithik were absent. Salman wasn’t taking his career seriously at that time we all know so i’ll exclude him. So you see he topped BO just because he didn’t have competition and those movies didn’t break any rcords they were simply Hits.
Also in 2006 his two movis didn’t break any records, RDB was was a multiplex film but did very well, Fanaa grossed more than Don and KANK dwithout Gujarat and both weren’t promoted at all by Aamir.
And of course Dhoom 2 and Krrish by Hrithik.
Even In the 90’s , DDLJ was hitoric but not like HAHK, KKHH was ATBB but did less than Raja Hindustani etc.
What i meant is that his films are doing pretty well but are not showing the real pototional of the expending of market nor are making history at BO! As simple as that.
It’s films like 3 Idiots and BG that show us the real pototioanl of market.

I heartily think he deserves the number one spot Indicine. Yes definitely!! And he has reasons to be. We all know that Shahrukh Khan has had boxoffice success throughout his career in the form of many hit films. Even Aamir whose films hardly flop has always had the taste of fame. Hrithik, Saif, Ranbir and many other lead heroes have had their successes. But as for Salman, he has had ups and downs. Nevertheless, this time and onwards, he deserves to be the number one actor. I mean which actor can give two 100 crore BLOCKBUSTERS and with another one in the name of Bodyguard inshallah on the way. I think Bodyguard will inshallah cross the lifetime business of Ready and if it continues its run, it may even come very close to Dabangg. “Superstardom” is what critics have given him the term these days. No doubt every actor is good in his own place, but Salman is one of a kind. We overate Emran Hashmi for his good film songs, but look at this, Dabangg, Ready and Bodyguard: all chartbuster and awesome soundtracks. I wish from my heart he recovers welll, may god give him all the success he needs from now on and may god also continue to only give BLOCKBUSTER status to his future films.

Salman is rulling since begining,salman gave 2atbb in romance movie before srk learn how to spell romance,in 2000’s only oso,cdi,rbnj were confiremed blockbuster others were above average and small hits,salman went through a difficult phase in 2000’s bcos of his personal life problem but he gave more hits than srk in the 90’s
The actor is best who perform better and best in one year. amir do movie 1 in a year or 1 in 2 year. if 3 idiot did 200 crores thn its not mean amir is best. after 3 idiot salam 3 movies across 125 crores each. so its more then 350 crores which is much much more then 3 idiot. so sallu is best.

I feel like crying when i see the same type of movies get bigger and bigger…… When all word will sit together and pick up top three movies of the country and compare they will be shoked…. They ll find dabaang, ready, bodyguard there and they ll mock on india….. They ll come to know where india stands they quality we have………………… just cant understand what this salman and akshay fans are up to…. THeir fans dont have anything to do they just want same things….. Salman, Akshay are not the culprit the real culprit is the fans who loves this craps…. this encourage them to make more and more movies….. Just go to south pick any movie and remake it in 10 days and get the bucksss….. It reallly make me cry where indian bollywood is going…..
Salman and Aamir are big stars..but their is no point in comparing wid SRK..coz SRK is all rounder..his films are huge hits in India and ATBB overseas..so the worldwide collections of SRK films are unbeatable..
SRK also gave back to back 3 BB OSO CDI and RNBDJ..and his 8ATBB overseas and infinite BB overseas are enough to place him on top of the tree..
I dont see domestic stardom..I see world wide stardom which is bigger..
