The first day collections of Tezz has shocked the trade. The film has opened to disastrous numbers collecting Rs 3.5 crore all over India, a figure that is lower than the opening of Abhishek Bachchan’s Players.
The big question then – Is Ajay Devgan a bankable star at the box-office? Let’s take a look at some of his films from 2010.
- Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge – Opened poorly, worked because the film was liked.
- Raajneeti – A multistarrer with popular stars like Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif.
- Once Upon a Time in Mumbai – Hit music, a production house known for marketing films well, Emraan Hashmi who has a huge fan-following of his own.
- Aakrosh – Non-starter at the box-office.
- Golmaal 3 – A successful comedy franchisee, Rohit Shetty as the director.
- Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji – Was a reasonably good success, but again a multi-starrer with Emraan Hashmi.
- Singham – Masala action film directed by Rohit Shetty
- Rascals – Opened poorly, disaster.
- Tezz – Shockingly poor opening numbers.
Apart from films directed by Rohit Shetty and a few multi-starrers, none of Ajay Devgan’s films – where he was the sole crowd puller – has worked at the box-office.
A bankable star is someone who guarantees a good initial, irrespective of the films content. Currently in Bollywood, there are only 6 such ‘superstars’ – Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Shahrukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan belong to the top league, followed by Akshay Kumar and Ranbir Kapoor.
Imran Khan and Emraan Hashmi have been consistent, but not quite in the same league as the Top 6.

i am really shock to see some people comments..they think emran and akshay has bigger star power than hrithik …really kidding me..biggest joke i ever seen…..those who have little doubt i inform them hrithick last 2 films collected 125 cr and 91 cr….according to me stardam list are below

but salman top seat will be lost after 2013 ..diwali..those who have little doubt will see how records are shatter …already there is a hype for krishh 3 which is double of agneepath..and still 18 months to go..
only hrithik is no 1 because us na phali movie bloukbuster bnaye the or us ka bad bhe krrish or dhoom 2 jase bloukbuster movies itna kam arsa ka ander bnayain.

Hrithik is the most hard working nd finest actor of bollywood. only Aamir is compareble to him in term of accuracy.

indicine how have you put Hrithik and ranbir in the top six? give us history of this two actors please. Agneepath was a mixture of the remake and snajay dutt with karan johar you cannot term hrithik is bankable apart from his father’s movies none of them have been successful so please explain. Ranbir has only 1 blockbuster in his life and that was rajneeti and that movie was a mixture of many things. I beleive that considering the expectations of films i believe imran hashmi and saif are ahead of these guys, even sanjay dutt.

@123 somewhere, do you know what your talking about? Agneepath, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Jodha Akbar, Dhoom 2, Krrish.. You can add Kites too, as it opened very well. In those, only one is directed by Rakesh Roshan. And regarding Agneepath being a multi-starrer, none of the other actors are bankable at the BO.
Coming to Ranbir, for someone who has been in the industry for only 4-5 years, he’s ahead of the competition (popularity, box-office opening, endorsements etc).
please do not take the name of single theatre people here in the list whom movies works at single theatres

I consider akshay on the top, because most of his movies worked because of his stardom, if look to his films 75% of those rejected by critics, but still worked at the box-office. akshay didn’t work with big production house like Yash Raj. Dharma, mukta arts. Or other.If we compare him with Aamir Salman SRK. All of them doing 1 film per year, and akshay doing 4 to 5 films each year.

1.SHAHRUKH KHAN-may be his last 2 films didnot work what we expected but it still managed to gross 200cr plus his brand endorsement plus his massive fan following makes him a big big SUPERSTAR..
2.SALMAN KHAN:-currently he is doing what he didnot able to do in his past..back to back 3 mega blockbusters with diehard huge fan followings,,brand endorsement and highest paid actor he is the clear no1 actor..and a mega SUPERSTAR…
3.AAMIR KHAN:-well before ghajini aamir was not categorised into a superstar coz b4 that film aamir’s any film didnot open good,had not a single blockbuster till raja hindustani,no endorsement and even MADAME TUSSAUDS did not request him to have a wax statue..but due to is acting skills he always served us some legendary film but now after 3IDIOTS he is a big SUPERSTAR..
4.HRITHIK ROSHAN :- he is not 20yrs old in industry like the KHANS but in this 12 years he did 18 films and 9 films r hit..among these 9 6 films r blockbuster ( kaho naa pyaar hai, k3g,koi mil gaya,krrish,dhoom2, and agneepath) jodhaa akbar,znmd r superhits and mission kashmir which was the 3rd highest grosser of 2000 was a hit..he also made records lyk 1st person to have a win best debut+best actor in same year and best critics+popular award in same year..several brand endorsements,madame tussauds wax as the youngest indian actor,huge fans made him a SUPERSTAR..
Ranbir kapoor is a superb talent and needs a big blockbuster to prove where akshay kumar gave 5 hits in a year but did not make him as the upper A LISTER..
